Impact of nonlinear power amplifier on link adaptation algorithm of OFDM systems
The impact of non linear distortion due to High Power Amplifier (HPA) on the performance of Link Adaptation
(LA) - Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) based wireless system is analyzed. The performance of both Forward Error Control Coding (FEC) en-coded and uncoded system is evaluated. LA maximizes the throughput while maintaining a required Block Error Rate (BLER). It is found that when OFDM signal, which has high PAPR, suffers non linear distortion due to non ideal HPA, the LA fails to meet the target BLER. Detailed analysis of the distortion and effects on LA are presented in this work
Quantifying Potential Energy Efficiency Gain in Green Cellular Wireless Networks
Conventional cellular wireless networks were designed with the purpose of
providing high throughput for the user and high capacity for the service
provider, without any provisions of energy efficiency. As a result, these
networks have an enormous Carbon footprint. In this paper, we describe the
sources of the inefficiencies in such networks. First we present results of the
studies on how much Carbon footprint such networks generate. We also discuss
how much more mobile traffic is expected to increase so that this Carbon
footprint will even increase tremendously more. We then discuss specific
sources of inefficiency and potential sources of improvement at the physical
layer as well as at higher layers of the communication protocol hierarchy. In
particular, considering that most of the energy inefficiency in cellular
wireless networks is at the base stations, we discuss multi-tier networks and
point to the potential of exploiting mobility patterns in order to use base
station energy judiciously. We then investigate potential methods to reduce
this inefficiency and quantify their individual contributions. By a
consideration of the combination of all potential gains, we conclude that an
improvement in energy consumption in cellular wireless networks by two orders
of magnitude, or even more, is possible.Comment: arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:1210.843
DSP Linearization for Millimeter-Wave All-Digital Receiver Array with Low-Resolution ADCs
Millimeter-wave (mmWave) communications and cell densification are the key
techniques for the future evolution of cellular systems beyond 5G. Although the
current mmWave radio designs are focused on hybrid digital and analog receiver
array architectures, the fully digital architecture is an appealing option due
to its flexibility and support for multi-user multiple-input multiple-output
(MIMO). In order to achieve reasonable power consumption and hardware cost, the
specifications of analog circuits are expected to be compromised, including the
resolution of analog-to-digital converter (ADC) and the linearity of
radio-frequency (RF) front end. Although the state-of-the-art studies focus on
the ADC, the nonlinearity can also lead to severe system performance
degradation when strong input signals introduce inter-modulation distortion
(IMD). The impact of RF nonlinearity becomes more severe with densely deployed
mmWave cells since signal sources closer to the receiver array are more likely
to occur. In this work, we design and analyze the digital IMD compensation
algorithm, and study the relaxation of the required linearity in the RF-chain.
We propose novel algorithms that jointly process digitized samples to recover
amplifier saturation, and relies on beam space operation which reduces the
computational complexity as compared to per-antenna IMD compensation.Comment: 2019 IEEE 20th International Workshop on Signal Processing Advances

Optimizing multi-antenna M-MIMO DM communication systems with advanced linearization techniques for RF front-end nonlinearity compensation in a comprehensive design and performance evaluation study
The study presented in this research focuses on linearization strategies for compensating for nonlinearity in RF front ends in multi-antenna M-MIMO OFDM communication systems. The study includes the design and evaluation of techniques such as analogue pre-distortion (APD), crest factor reduction (CFR), multi-antenna clipping noise cancellation (M-CNC), and multi-clipping noise cancellation (MCNC). Nonlinearities in RF front ends can cause signal distortion, leading to reduced system performance. To address this issue, various linearization methods have been proposed. This research examines the impact of antenna correlation on power amplifier efficiency and bit error rate (BER) of transmissions using these methods. Simulation studies conducted under high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) regimes reveal that M-CNC and MCNC approaches offer significant improvement in BER performance and PA efficiency compared to other techniques. Additionally, the study explores the influence of clipping level and antenna correlation on the effectiveness of these methods. The findings suggest that appropriate linearization strategies should be selected based on factors such as the number of antennas, SNR, and clipping level of the system
Enhanced Multicarrier Techniques for Professional Ad-Hoc and Cell-Based Communications (EMPhAtiC) Document Number D3.3 Reduction of PAPR and non linearities effects
Livrable d'un projet Européen EMPHATICLike other multicarrier modulation techniques, FBMC suffers from high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR), impacting its performance in the presence of a nonlinear high power amplifier (HPA) in two ways. The first impact is an in-band distortion affecting the error rate performance of the link. The second impact is an out-of-band effect appearing as power spectral density (PSD) regrowth, making the coexistence between FBMC based broad-band Professional Mobile Radio (PMR) systems with existing narrowband systems difficult to achieve. This report addresses first the theoretical analysis of in-band HPA distortions in terms of Bit Error Rate. Also, the out-of band impact of HPA nonlinearities is studied in terms of PSD regrowth prediction. Furthermore, the problem of PAPR reduction is addressed along with some HPA linearization techniques and nonlinearity compensation approaches
