Dynamic Compressive Sensing of Time-Varying Signals via Approximate Message Passing
In this work the dynamic compressive sensing (CS) problem of recovering
sparse, correlated, time-varying signals from sub-Nyquist, non-adaptive, linear
measurements is explored from a Bayesian perspective. While there has been a
handful of previously proposed Bayesian dynamic CS algorithms in the
literature, the ability to perform inference on high-dimensional problems in a
computationally efficient manner remains elusive. In response, we propose a
probabilistic dynamic CS signal model that captures both amplitude and support
correlation structure, and describe an approximate message passing algorithm
that performs soft signal estimation and support detection with a computational
complexity that is linear in all problem dimensions. The algorithm, DCS-AMP,
can perform either causal filtering or non-causal smoothing, and is capable of
learning model parameters adaptively from the data through an
expectation-maximization learning procedure. We provide numerical evidence that
DCS-AMP performs within 3 dB of oracle bounds on synthetic data under a variety
of operating conditions. We further describe the result of applying DCS-AMP to
two real dynamic CS datasets, as well as a frequency estimation task, to
bolster our claim that DCS-AMP is capable of offering state-of-the-art
performance and speed on real-world high-dimensional problems.Comment: 32 pages, 7 figure
A local Gaussian filter and adaptive morphology as tools for completing partially discontinuous curves
This paper presents a method for extraction and analysis of curve--type
structures which consist of disconnected components. Such structures are found
in electron--microscopy (EM) images of metal nanograins, which are widely used
in the field of nanosensor technology.
The topography of metal nanograins in compound nanomaterials is crucial to
nanosensor characteristics. The method of completing such templates consists of
three steps. In the first step, a local Gaussian filter is used with different
weights for each neighborhood. In the second step, an adaptive morphology
operation is applied to detect the endpoints of curve segments and connect
them. In the last step, pruning is employed to extract a curve which optimally
fits the template
A proximal iteration for deconvolving Poisson noisy images using sparse representations
We propose an image deconvolution algorithm when the data is contaminated by
Poisson noise. The image to restore is assumed to be sparsely represented in a
dictionary of waveforms such as the wavelet or curvelet transforms. Our key
contributions are: First, we handle the Poisson noise properly by using the
Anscombe variance stabilizing transform leading to a {\it non-linear}
degradation equation with additive Gaussian noise. Second, the deconvolution
problem is formulated as the minimization of a convex functional with a
data-fidelity term reflecting the noise properties, and a non-smooth
sparsity-promoting penalties over the image representation coefficients (e.g.
-norm). Third, a fast iterative backward-forward splitting algorithm is
proposed to solve the minimization problem. We derive existence and uniqueness
conditions of the solution, and establish convergence of the iterative
algorithm. Finally, a GCV-based model selection procedure is proposed to
objectively select the regularization parameter. Experimental results are
carried out to show the striking benefits gained from taking into account the
Poisson statistics of the noise. These results also suggest that using
sparse-domain regularization may be tractable in many deconvolution
applications with Poisson noise such as astronomy and microscopy
