Self-similar prior and wavelet bases for hidden incompressible turbulent motion
This work is concerned with the ill-posed inverse problem of estimating
turbulent flows from the observation of an image sequence. From a Bayesian
perspective, a divergence-free isotropic fractional Brownian motion (fBm) is
chosen as a prior model for instantaneous turbulent velocity fields. This
self-similar prior characterizes accurately second-order statistics of velocity
fields in incompressible isotropic turbulence. Nevertheless, the associated
maximum a posteriori involves a fractional Laplacian operator which is delicate
to implement in practice. To deal with this issue, we propose to decompose the
divergent-free fBm on well-chosen wavelet bases. As a first alternative, we
propose to design wavelets as whitening filters. We show that these filters are
fractional Laplacian wavelets composed with the Leray projector. As a second
alternative, we use a divergence-free wavelet basis, which takes implicitly
into account the incompressibility constraint arising from physics. Although
the latter decomposition involves correlated wavelet coefficients, we are able
to handle this dependence in practice. Based on these two wavelet
decompositions, we finally provide effective and efficient algorithms to
approach the maximum a posteriori. An intensive numerical evaluation proves the
relevance of the proposed wavelet-based self-similar priors.Comment: SIAM Journal on Imaging Sciences, 201
Map online system using internet-based image catalogue
Digital maps carry along its geodata information such as coordinate that is important in one particular topographic and thematic map. These geodatas are meaningful especially in military field. Since the maps carry along this information, its makes the size of the images is too big. The bigger size, the bigger storage is required to allocate the image file. It also can cause longer loading time. These conditions make it did not suitable to be applied in image catalogue approach via internet environment. With compression techniques, the image size can be reduced and the quality of the image is still guaranteed without much changes. This report is paying attention to one of the image compression technique using wavelet technology. Wavelet technology is much batter than any other image compression technique nowadays. As a result, the compressed images applied to a system called Map Online that used Internet-based Image Catalogue approach. This system allowed user to buy map online. User also can download the maps that had been bought besides using the searching the map. Map searching is based on several meaningful keywords. As a result, this system is expected to be used by Jabatan Ukur dan Pemetaan Malaysia (JUPEM) in order to make the organization vision is implemented
Approximation algorithms for wavelet transform coding of data streams
This paper addresses the problem of finding a B-term wavelet representation
of a given discrete function whose distance from f is
minimized. The problem is well understood when we seek to minimize the
Euclidean distance between f and its representation. The first known algorithms
for finding provably approximate representations minimizing general
distances (including ) under a wide variety of compactly supported
wavelet bases are presented in this paper. For the Haar basis, a polynomial
time approximation scheme is demonstrated. These algorithms are applicable in
the one-pass sublinear-space data stream model of computation. They generalize
naturally to multiple dimensions and weighted norms. A universal representation
that provides a provable approximation guarantee under all p-norms
simultaneously; and the first approximation algorithms for bit-budget versions
of the problem, known as adaptive quantization, are also presented. Further, it
is shown that the algorithms presented here can be used to select a basis from
a tree-structured dictionary of bases and find a B-term representation of the
given function that provably approximates its best dictionary-basis
representation.Comment: Added a universal representation that provides a provable
approximation guarantee under all p-norms simultaneousl
Elliptical Monogenic Wavelets for the analysis and processing of color images
International audienceThis paper studies and gives new algorithms for image processing based on monogenic wavelets. Existing greyscale monogenic filterbanks are reviewed and we reveal a lack of discussion about the synthesis part. The monogenic synthesis is therefore defined from the idea of wavelet modulation, and an innovative filterbank is constructed by using the Radon transform. The color extension is then investigated. First, the elliptical Fourier atom model is proposed to generalize theanalytic signal representation for vector-valued signals. Then a color Riesz-transform is defined so as to construct color elliptical monogenic wavelets. Our Radon-based monogenic filterbank can be easily extended to color according to this definition. The proposed wavelet representation provides efficient analysis of local features in terms of shape and color, thanks to the concepts of amplitude, phase, orientation, and ellipse parameters. The synthesis from local features is deeply studied. We conclude the article by defining the color local frequency, proposing an estimation algorithm
Generalised additive multiscale wavelet models constructed using particle swarm optimisation and mutual information for spatio-temporal evolutionary system representation
A new class of generalised additive multiscale wavelet models (GAMWMs) is introduced for high dimensional spatio-temporal evolutionary (STE) system identification. A novel two-stage hybrid learning scheme is developed for constructing such an additive wavelet model. In the first stage, a new orthogonal projection pursuit (OPP) method, implemented using a particle swarm optimisation(PSO) algorithm, is proposed for successively augmenting an initial coarse wavelet model, where relevant parameters of the associated wavelets are optimised using a particle swarm optimiser. The resultant network model, obtained in the first stage, may however be a redundant model. In the second stage, a forward orthogonal regression (FOR) algorithm, implemented using a mutual information method, is then applied to refine and improve the initially constructed wavelet model. The proposed two-stage hybrid method can generally produce a parsimonious wavelet model, where a ranked list of wavelet functions, according to the capability of each wavelet to represent the total variance in the desired system output signal is produced. The proposed new modelling framework is applied to real observed images, relative to a chemical reaction exhibiting a spatio-temporal evolutionary behaviour, and the associated identification results show that the new modelling framework is applicable and effective for handling high dimensional identification problems of spatio-temporal evolution sytems
