    Along with the times, information retrieval is no longer just on textual data, but also the visual data. The technique was originally used is Text-Based Image Retrieval (TBIR), but the technique still has some shortcomings such as the relevance of the picture successfully retrieved, and the specific space required to store meta-data in the image. Seeing the shortage of Text-Based Image Retrieval techniques, then other techniques were developed, namely Image Retrieval based on content or commonly called Content Based Image Retrieval (CBIR). In this research, CBIR will be discussed based on color, shape and texture using a color histogram, Gabor and SIFT. This study aimed to compare the results of image retrieval with some of these techniques. The results obtained are by combining color, shape and texture features, the performance of the system can be improved

    Analysis of combined approaches of CBIR systems by clustering at varying precision levels

    The image retrieving system is used to retrieve images from the image database. Two types of Image retrieval techniques are commonly used: content-based and text-based techniques. One of the well-known image retrieval techniques that extract the images in an unsupervised way, known as the cluster-based image retrieval technique. In this cluster-based image retrieval, all visual features of an image are combined to find a better retrieval rate and precisions. The objectives of the study were to develop a new model by combining the three traits i.e., color, shape, and texture of an image. The color-shape and color-texture models were compared to a threshold value with various precision levels. A union was formed of a newly developed model with a color-shape, and color-texture model to find the retrieval rate in terms of precisions of the image retrieval system. The results were experimented on on the COREL standard database and it was found that the union of three models gives better results than the image retrieval from the individual models. The newly developed model and the union of the given models also gives better results than the existing system named cluster-based retrieval of images by unsupervised learning (CLUE)

    Algorithms of Content-Based Image Retrieval (CBIR) have been well developed along with the explosion of information. These algorithms are mainly distinguished based on feature used to describe the image content. In this paper, the algorithms that are based on color feature and texture feature for image retrieval will be presented. Color Coherence Vector based image retrieval algorithm is also attempted during the implementation process, but the best result is generated from the algorithms that weights color and texture. 80% satisfying rate is achieved

    Hybrid Information Retrieval Model For Web Images

    The Bing Bang of the Internet in the early 90's increased dramatically the number of images being distributed and shared over the web. As a result, image information retrieval systems were developed to index and retrieve image files spread over the Internet. Most of these systems are keyword-based which search for images based on their textual metadata; and thus, they are imprecise as it is vague to describe an image with a human language. Besides, there exist the content-based image retrieval systems which search for images based on their visual information. However, content-based type systems are still immature and not that effective as they suffer from low retrieval recall/precision rate. This paper proposes a new hybrid image information retrieval model for indexing and retrieving web images published in HTML documents. The distinguishing mark of the proposed model is that it is based on both graphical content and textual metadata. The graphical content is denoted by color features and color histogram of the image; while textual metadata are denoted by the terms that surround the image in the HTML document, more particularly, the terms that appear in the tags p, h1, and h2, in addition to the terms that appear in the image's alt attribute, filename, and class-label. Moreover, this paper presents a new term weighting scheme called VTF-IDF short for Variable Term Frequency-Inverse Document Frequency which unlike traditional schemes, it exploits the HTML tag structure and assigns an extra bonus weight for terms that appear within certain particular HTML tags that are correlated to the semantics of the image.     Content-based image retrieval based on color-spatial features

    A novel technique for Content-Based Image Retrieval (CBIR) that employs both the color and spatial information of images is proposed. A maximum of three dominant color regions in an image together with its respective coordinates of the Minimum-Bounding Rectangle (MBR) are first extracted. Next, the Sub-Block technique is then used to determine the location of the dominant regions by comparing the coordinates of the regions MBR with the four corners of the center of the location map. The cell number that is maximally covered by the region is supposedly to be assigned as the location index. However, the Sub-Block technique is not reliable because in most cases, the location index assigned is not the cell number that is maximally covered by the region and sometimes a region does not overlap with the cell number assigned at all. The effectiveness of this technique has been improved using the Improved Sub-Block technique by taking into consideration the total horizontal and vertical distances of a region at each location where it overlaps. The color-spatial technique is accessed on a Query-by- Example CBIR system consisting of 900 images. From the experiments it is shown that retrieval effectiveness has been significantly improved by 85.86%

    The increased need of content based image retrieval technique can be found in a number of different domains such as Data Mining, Education, Medical Imaging, Crime Prevention, Weather forecasting, Remote Sensing and Management of Earth Resources. With the development of Multimedia data types and heavy increase in available bandwidth, there’s a huge demand of Image Retrieval system Content based image retrieval system uses color and geometry means to store, retrieve, sort and print any combinations of the images. The retrieval of images is, for the majority of search engines, available for collecting data from the image, this can be an image file name, html tags and surrounding text. This left the actual image more or less ignored. CBIR uses methods that analyze the actual bits and pieces i.e. color, shape, texture and spatial layout. There have been different approaches such as feature extraction, indexing and retrieval process. One approach is to make an attempt to classify the image into a more textual described context. With the image classified, it can be retrieved using more traditional and better retrieval methods. Our system Content Based Image Retrieval which is based on color and geometry, the system exactly does feature extraction in first step by using color, texture and shape (geometry) on images which gives there features which can be used to classify the image into different groups using distance formulas. Also the system gives relevant images as well as irrelevant images. The project thus going to work on relevance feedback of user which helps to improve the overall results

    Wavelet-Based Color Histogram on Content-Based Image Retrieval

    The growth of image databases in many domains, including fashion, biometric, graphic design, architecture, etc. has increased rapidly. Content Based Image Retrieval System (CBIR) is a technique used for finding relevant images from those huge and unannotated image databases based on low-level features of the query images. In this study, an attempt to employ 2nd level Wavelet Based Color Histogram (WBCH) on a CBIR system is proposed. Image database used in this study are taken from Wang’s image database containing 1000 color images. The experiment results show that 2nd level WBCH gives better precision (0.777) than the other methods, including 1st level WBCH, Color Histogram, Color Co-occurrence Matrix, and Wavelet texture feature. It can be concluded that the 2nd Level of WBCH can be applied to CBIR system
