Quanta: The Originality of Einstein's Approach to Relativity?
We suggest that not only quanta may have played a role in Einstein's ideas on
relativity, but that they themselves may be related to the dynamical and
relativistic behaviour of the electromagnetic field exhibited in a Poincar\'e's
1900 paper, in particular to the identical transformation law of energy and
frequency for bounded plane waves

Augustus Polonus. The Image of the Emperor in Polish Historiography in Inter-War Period. Preliminary Remarks
The figure of the first Roman emperor in many ways had an impact on the Polish culture, especially in historiography and literature. In my paper I focus on some issues connected with the subject. I discuss the ideas presented by Tadeusz Zieliński, one of the most eminent researchers of the ancient world in Europe in the first part of 20th century. He devoted a significant part of his opus to present his own vision of Augustus seen as a reformer of the Roman state religion. Zieliński built the emperor’s image as the saviour of the Roman world in the face of „the end of times”. This term played significant role in Zieliński’s thinking about Roman history at the end of the Republic. For the Polish scholar celebration of the secular game in 17 BC was the final task done by Augustus. This task Zieliński defined as the sacred mission and connected with the figure of Sibyl and the impact of the Etruscan theory of saeculum. For Zieliński, Augustus belonged to the most important men of providence in Roman history. In the same way I discuss the ideas presented by Ludwik Piotrowicz and Mieczysław St. Popławski. Both scholars analised the question of imperial cult in depth. Popławski expressed original view on Augustus apotheosis seen as the development of imperial cult in transcendental perspective. Piotrowicz instead saw this problem as a purely political phenomenon. Last part of my paper is devoted to short resentation of the echos of Augustus’ bimillenium in Polish scholar activity
CURRENT STATE AND FUTURE DIRECTIONS OF SAEA
Teaching/Communication/Extension/Profession,
Aerodynamic characteristics, including effect of body shape, of a Mach 6 aircraft concept
Longitudinal aerodynamic characteristics for a hydrogen-fueled hypersonic transport concept at Mach 6 are presented. The model components consist of four bodies with identical longitudinal area distributions but different cross-sectional shapes and widths, a wing, horizontal and vertical tails, and a set of wing-mounted nacelles simulated by slid bodies on the wing upper surface. Lift-drag ratios were found to be only sightly affected by fuselage planform width or cross sectional shape. Relative distribution of fuselage volume above and below the wing was found to have an effect on the lift-drag ratio, with a higher lift drag ratio produced by the higher wing position
Mathematics, Statistics and Data Science
The process of extracting information from data has a long history (see, for example, [1]) stretching back over centuries. Because of the proliferation of data over the last few decades, and projections for its continued proliferation over coming decades, the term Data Science has emerged to describe the substantial current intellectual effort around research with the same overall goal, namely that of extracting information. The type of data currently available in all sorts of application domains is often massive in size, very heterogeneous and far from being collected under designed or controlled experimental conditions. Nonetheless, it contains information, often
substantial information, and data science requires
new interdisciplinary approaches to make maximal use
of this information. Data alone is typically not that informative and (machine) learning from data needs conceptual frameworks. Mathematics and statistics are crucial for providing such conceptual frameworks. The frameworks enhance the understanding of fundamental phenomena, highlight limitations and provide a formalism for properly founded data analysis, information extraction and quantification of uncertainty, as well as for the analysis and development of algorithms that carry out these key tasks. In this personal commentary on data science and its relations to mathematics and statistics, we highlight three important aspects of the emerging field: Models, High-Dimensionality and Heterogeneity, and then conclude with a brief discussion of where the field is now and implications for the mathematical sciences
