Side-View Face Recognition
Side-view face recognition is a challenging problem with many applications. Especially in real-life scenarios where the environment is uncontrolled, coping with pose variations up to side-view positions is an important task for face recognition. In this paper we discuss the use of side view face recognition techniques to be used in house safety applications. Our aim is to recognize people as they pass through a door, and estimate their location in the house. Here, we compare available databases appropriate for this task, and review current methods for profile face recognition
"'Who are you?' - Learning person specific classifiers from video"
We investigate the problem of automatically labelling
faces of characters in TV or movie material with their
names, using only weak supervision from automaticallyaligned
subtitle and script text. Our previous work (Everingham
et al. [8]) demonstrated promising results on the
task, but the coverage of the method (proportion of video
labelled) and generalization was limited by a restriction to
frontal faces and nearest neighbour classification.
In this paper we build on that method, extending the coverage
greatly by the detection and recognition of characters
in profile views. In addition, we make the following contributions:
(i) seamless tracking, integration and recognition
of profile and frontal detections, and (ii) a character specific
multiple kernel classifier which is able to learn the features
best able to discriminate between the characters.
We report results on seven episodes of the TV series
āBuffy the Vampire Slayerā, demonstrating significantly increased
coverage and performance with respect to previous
methods on this material
Review of Face Detection Systems Based Artificial Neural Networks Algorithms
Face detection is one of the most relevant applications of image processing
and biometric systems. Artificial neural networks (ANN) have been used in the
field of image processing and pattern recognition. There is lack of literature
surveys which give overview about the studies and researches related to the
using of ANN in face detection. Therefore, this research includes a general
review of face detection studies and systems which based on different ANN
approaches and algorithms. The strengths and limitations of these literature
studies and systems were included also.Comment: 16 pages, 12 figures, 1 table, IJMA Journa
Fast human activity recognition based on structure and motion
This is the post-print version of the final paper published in Pattern Recognition Letters. The published article is available from the link below. Changes resulting from the publishing process, such as peer review, editing, corrections, structural formatting, and other quality control mechanisms may not be reflected in this document. Changes may have been made to this work since it was submitted for publication. Copyright @ 2011 Elsevier B.V.We present a method for the recognition of human activities. The proposed approach is based on the construction of a set of templates for each activity as well as on the measurement of the motion in each activity. Templates are designed so that they capture the structural and motion information that is most discriminative among activities. The direct motion measurements capture the amount of translational motion in each activity. The two features are fused at the recognition stage. Recognition is achieved in two steps by calculating the similarity between the templates and motion features of the test and reference activities. The proposed methodology is experimentally assessed and is shown to yield excellent performance.European Commissio
