High gain observer for structured multi-output nonlinear systems
In this note, we present two system structures that characterize classes of multi-input multi-output uniformly observable systems. The first structure is decomposable into a linear and a nonlinear part while the second takes a more general form. It is shown that the second system structure, being more general, contains several system structures that are available in the literature. Two high gain observer design methodologies are presented for both structures and their distinct features are highlighted
Robust observer design under measurement noise with gain adaptation and saturated estimates
We use incremental homogeneity, gain adaptation and incremental observability for proving new results on robust observer design for systems with noisy measurement and bounded trajectories. A state observer is designed by dominating the incrementally homogeneous nonlinearities of the observation error system with its linear approximation, while gain adaptation and incremental observability guarantee an asymptotic upper bound for the estimation error depending on the limsup of the norm of the measurement noise. A characteristic and innovative feature of this observer is the mixed low/high-gain structure in combination with saturated state estimates and dynamically tuned gains and saturation levels. The gain adaptation is implemented as the output of a stable filter using the squared norm of the measured output estimation error and the mismatch between each estimate and its saturated value

Global Stabilization of Triangular Systems with Time-Delayed Dynamic Input Perturbations
A control design approach is developed for a general class of uncertain
strict-feedback-like nonlinear systems with dynamic uncertain input
nonlinearities with time delays. The system structure considered in this paper
includes a nominal uncertain strict-feedback-like subsystem, the input signal
to which is generated by an uncertain nonlinear input unmodeled dynamics that
is driven by the entire system state (including unmeasured state variables) and
is also allowed to depend on time delayed versions of the system state variable
and control input signals. The system also includes additive uncertain
nonlinear functions, coupled nonlinear appended dynamics, and uncertain dynamic
input nonlinearities with time-varying uncertain time delays. The proposed
control design approach provides a globally stabilizing delay-independent
robust adaptive output-feedback dynamic controller based on a dual dynamic
high-gain scaling based structure.Comment: 2017 IEEE International Carpathian Control Conference (ICCC
A detectability criterion and data assimilation for non-linear differential equations
In this paper we propose a new sequential data assimilation method for
non-linear ordinary differential equations with compact state space. The method
is designed so that the Lyapunov exponents of the corresponding estimation
error dynamics are negative, i.e. the estimation error decays exponentially
fast. The latter is shown to be the case for generic regular flow maps if and
only if the observation matrix H satisfies detectability conditions: the rank
of H must be at least as great as the number of nonnegative Lyapunov exponents
of the underlying attractor. Numerical experiments illustrate the exponential
convergence of the method and the sharpness of the theory for the case of
Lorenz96 and Burgers equations with incomplete and noisy observations
