© 1986-2012 IEEE. This letter proposes a single switch magnetically coupled dc-dc converter with a high voltage gain. The unique features of the converter are summarized as follows: 1) voltage gain of the converters is raised by lowering its magnetic turn ratio; 2) wide control range (0< D< 1); 3) continuous current from the source that makes it a suitable candidate for renewable energy applications; and 4) there is no dc current saturation in the core due to the presence of capacitor in the primary winding of the inductor. The feasibility of the proposed converter is studied in details supported by circuit analysis and simulation results. Furthermore, the proposed converter is analyzed and compared with other converters with similar features. Finally the superior performance of the circuit is validated experimentally

Ancillary Services in Hybrid AC/DC Low Voltage Distribution Networks

In the last decade, distribution systems are experiencing a drastic transformation with the advent of new technologies. In fact, distribution networks are no longer passive systems, considering the current integration rates of new agents such as distributed generation, electrical vehicles and energy storage, which are greatly influencing the way these systems are operated. In addition, the intrinsic DC nature of these components, interfaced to the AC system through power electronics converters, is unlocking the possibility for new distribution topologies based on AC/DC networks. This paper analyzes the evolution of AC distribution systems, the advantages of AC/DC hybrid arrangements and the active role that the new distributed agents may play in the upcoming decarbonized paradigm by providing different ancillary services.Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad ENE2017-84813-RUnión Europea (Programa Horizonte 2020) 76409

Single-switch bipolar output DC-DC converter for photovoltaic application

    Get PDF
Bipolar DC grids have become an adequate solution for high-power microgrids. This is mainly due to the fact that this configuration has a greater power transmission capacity. In bipolar DC grids, any distributed generation system can be connected through DC-DC converters, which must have a monopolar input and a bipolar output. In this paper, a DC-DC converter based on the combination of single-ended primary-inductor converter (SEPIC) and C´ uk converters is proposed, to connect a photovoltaic (PV) system to a bipolar DC grid. This topology has, as main advantages, a reduced number of components and a high e ciency. Furthermore, it can contribute to regulate/balance voltage in bipolar DC grids. To control the proposed converter, any of the techniques described in the literature and applied to converters of a single input and single output can be used. An experimental prototype of a DC-DC converter with bipolar output based on the combination of SEPIC and C´ uk converters was developed. On the other hand, a perturb and observe method (P and O) has been applied to control the converter and has allowed maximum power point tracking (MPPT). The combined converter was connected in island mode and in parallel with a bipolar DC microgrid. The obtained results have allowed to verify the behavior of the combined converter with the applied strategy.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Hardware prototyping and validation of a W-ΔDOR digital signal processor

Microwave tracking, usually performed by on ground processing of the signals coming from a spacecraft, represents a crucial aspect in every deep-space mission. Various noise sources, including receiver noise, affect these signals, limiting the accuracy of the radiometric measurements obtained from the radio link. There are several methods used for spacecraft tracking, including the Delta-Differential One-Way Ranging (ΔDOR) technique. In the past years, European Space Agency (ESA) missions relied on a narrowband ΔDOR system for navigation in the cruise phase. To limit the adverse effect of nonlinearities in the receiving chain, an innovative wideband approach to ΔDOR measurements has recently been proposed. This work presents the hardware implementation of a new version of the ESA X/Ka Deep Space Transponder based on the new tracking technique named Wideband ΔDOR (W-ΔDOR). The architecture of the new transponder guarantees backward compatibility with narrowband ΔDOR

    A New Soft-Switched High Step-Up Trans-Inverse DC/DC Converter Based on Built-In Transformer

This article proposes a new Zero-Voltage Switching (ZVS) high step-up DC/DC converter based on a built-in transformer for renewable energy applications. The proposed topology utilizes a Three-Winding Built-In Transformer (TWBT) to increase the voltage gain, but unlike most coupled-inductor-based DC-DC converters, high output voltages can be obtained under a lower magnetic turns ratio. In this circuit, with the help of a regenerative active clamp circuit, the energy of the leakage inductor from the TWBT is absorbed and transferred to the output, therefore, the ZVS conditions at turn-on time are achieved for switches. The voltage stresses across the switches of the proposed topology are limited, and the diodes reverse-recovery issue are eliminated. Due to the low input current ripple, the suggested topology can be used for renewable energy sources. Furthermore, because of the low number of components along with the soft-switching operation, the proposed circuit can offer enough high efficiency. The operational principle, steady-state analysis, and characteristics of the proposed converter are provided. Finally, a 200 W prototype with 25 V input and 400 V output voltage is built to validate the analytical results
