Selective Combining for Hybrid Cooperative Networks
In this study, we consider the selective combining in hybrid cooperative
networks (SCHCNs scheme) with one source node, one destination node and
relay nodes. In the SCHCN scheme, each relay first adaptively chooses between
amplify-and-forward protocol and decode-and-forward protocol on a per frame
basis by examining the error-detecting code result, and () relays will be selected to forward their received signals to the
destination. We first develop a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) threshold-based
frame error rate (FER) approximation model. Then, the theoretical FER
expressions for the SCHCN scheme are derived by utilizing the proposed SNR
threshold-based FER approximation model. The analytical FER expressions are
validated through simulation results.Comment: 27 pages, 8 figures, IET Communications, 201
Error Rate Analysis of GF(q) Network Coded Detect-and-Forward Wireless Relay Networks Using Equivalent Relay Channel Models
This paper investigates simple means of analyzing the error rate performance
of a general q-ary Galois Field network coded detect-and-forward cooperative
relay network with known relay error statistics at the destination. Equivalent
relay channels are used in obtaining an approximate error rate of the relay
network, from which the diversity order is found. Error rate analyses using
equivalent relay channel models are shown to be closely matched with simulation
results. Using the equivalent relay channels, low complexity receivers are
developed whose performances are close to that of the optimal maximum
likelihood receiver.Comment: 28 pages, 10 figures. This work has been submitted to the IEEE for

Asymptotic Capacity of Large Fading Relay Networks with Random Node Failures
To understand the network response to large-scale physical attacks, we
investigate the asymptotic capacity of a half-duplex fading relay network with
random node failures when the number of relays is infinitely large. In this
paper, a simplified independent attack model is assumed where each relay node
fails with a certain probability. The noncoherent relaying scheme is
considered, which corresponds to the case of zero forward-link channel state
information (CSI) at the relays. Accordingly, the whole relay network can be
shown equivalent to a Rayleigh fading channel, where we derive the
-outage capacity upper bound according to the multiple access (MAC)
cut-set, and the -outage achievable rates for both the
amplify-and-forward (AF) and decode-and-forward (DF) strategies. Furthermore,
we show that the DF strategy is asymptotically optimal as the outage
probability goes to zero, with the AF strategy strictly suboptimal
over all signal to noise ratio (SNR) regimes. Regarding the rate loss due to
random attacks, the AF strategy suffers a less portion of rate loss than the DF
strategy in the high SNR regime, while the DF strategy demonstrates more robust
performance in the low SNR regime.Comment: 24 pages, 5 figures, submitted to IEEE Transactions on Communication
Optimization and Analysis of Wireless Powered Multi-antenna Cooperative Systems
In this paper, we consider a three-node cooperative wireless powered
communication system consisting of a multi-antenna hybrid access point (H-AP)
and a single-antenna relay and a single-antenna user. The energy constrained
relay and user first harvest energy in the downlink and then the relay assists
the user using the harvested power for information transmission in the uplink.
The optimal energy beamforming vector and the time split between harvest and
cooperation are investigated. To reduce the computational complexity,
suboptimal designs are also studied, where closed-form expressions are derived
for the energy beamforming vector and the time split. For comparison purposes,
we also present a detailed performance analysis in terms of the achievable
outage probability and the average throughput of an intuitive energy
beamforming scheme, where the H-AP directs all the energy towards the user. The
findings of the paper suggest that implementing multiple antennas at the H-AP
can significantly improve the system performance, and the closed-form
suboptimal energy beamforming vector and time split yields near optimal
performance. Also, for the intuitive beamforming scheme, a diversity order of
(N+1)/2 can be achieved, where N is the number of antennas at the H-AP
