    Design of an embedded microcomputer based mini quadrotor UAV

    This paper describes the design and realization of a mini quadrotor UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) that has been initiated in the Systems and Control Laboratory at the Computer and Automation Research institute of the Hungarian Academy of Science in collaboration with control departments of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics. The mini quadrotor UAV is intended to use in several areas such as camera-based air-surveillance, traffic control, environmental measurements, etc. The paper focuses upon the embedded microcomputer-based implementation of the mini UAV, describes the elements of the implementation, the tools realized for mathematical model building, as well as obtains a brief outline of the control design

    Environmental urbanization assessment using gis and multicriteria decision analysis: a case study for Denizli (Turkey) municipal area

    In recent years, life quality of the urban areas is a growing interest of civil engineering. Environmental quality is essential to display the position of sustainable development and asserts the corresponding countermeasures to the protection of environment. Urban environmental quality involves multidisciplinary parameters and difficulties to be analyzed. The problem is not only complex but also involves many uncertainties, and decision-making on these issues is a challenging problem which contains many parameters and alternatives inherently. Multicriteria decision analysis (MCDA) is a very prepotent technique to solve that sort of problems, and it guides the users confidence by synthesizing that information. Environmental concerns frequently contain spatial information. Spatial multicriteria decision analysis (SMCDA) that includes Geographic Information System (GIS) is efficient to tackle that type of problems. This study has employed some geographic and urbanization parameters to assess the environmental urbanization quality used by those methods. The study area has been described in five categories: very favorable, favorable, moderate, unfavorable, and very unfavorable. The results are momentous to see the current situation, and they could help to mitigate the related concerns.     Communications for Next Generation single chip computers

    It is the thesis of this report that much of what is presently thought to require specialized VLSI functions might instead be achieved by combinations of fast general purpose single chip computers with upgraded communication facilities. To this end, the characteristics of applications of this nature are first surveyed briefly and some working principles established. In the light of these, three different chip philosophies are explored in some detail. This study shows that some upgrading of typical single chip I/O will definitely be necessary, but that this upgrading does not have to be complex and that true multiprocessor-multibus operation could be achieved without excessive cost

    An Analytic Approach to Selecting a Nonprofit

    Charity giving continues to be an important aspect of the economic and social fabric of the United States. The number and total assets of nonprofits registered with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) under the section 501(c)(3) of the tax code have grown significantly over the past decade. Given the significant share of donations in supporting the activities of nonprofits, it is important for donors to have a better understanding of their operations and governance. As the number of nonprofits with similar objectives increases, it becomes overly complicated for donors to make a choice that is consistent with their own purpose for giving. The goal of this paper is to develop an analytic framework for selecting a nonprofit from among competing alternatives. Specifically, we propose a process in which consultants or financial advisors help donors evaluate nonprofits using a set of financial and governance criteria to generate a ranked short list of alternatives for further evaluation. Donors differ in their criteria for evaluating the performance of nonprofits.     Hierarchical Structure in Brazilian Industrial Firms: an Econometric Study

    The paper investigates different implications of theoretical models for hierarchical structure. A sample of 6567 firms in the Brazilian manufacturing industry is considered and explanatory factors pertaining structural characteristics, network technology, technological innovations, managerial innovations and incentive mechanisms are investigated. Despite the broader availability of explanatory variables in some categories, one only detects important joint effects accruing from the group of network technology variables as had been previously obtained in the related literature. In contrast, however, one can detect a marginally significant joint effect of the newly considered group of incentive mechanisms variables. The evidence in terms of individual effects is largely consistent with the predicted effects from the theoretical literature on hierarchy.
