Texture Features from Handwritten Images for Writer Identification

    Get PDF
Identification of the writer is having wide scope in emerging technology due to its usage in various types of applications, especially in forensic science and biometric science. Our aim in this project is to identify author or writer from script which is handwritten and obtained as scanned images. Features of textures will be elicitated from wavelet decomposed images based on co-occurrence histograms. These will get (capture) the information about the relations among sub-bands of less frequency and that in sub-bands of higher frequency at the particular level of the transformed image. If the co-relation between the sub-bands has resolution of same then that indicates a stronger relation. Then relationship strength will indicate as information was essential considered to differentiating the textures. The proposed methodology will be executed with English handwritten images by considering 5, 10 penmanship or writers. Ability of features from texture in identifying writers is indicated though the outcome achieved in experimentation

Non-english and non-latin signature verification systems: A survey

Signatures continue to be an important biometric because they remain widely used as a means of personal verification and therefore an automatic verification system is needed. Manual signature-based authentication of a large number of documents is a difficult and time consuming task. Consequently for many years, in the field of protected communication and financial applications, we have observed an explosive growth in biometric personal authentication systems that are closely connected with measurable unique physical characteristics (e.g. hand geometry, iris scan, finger prints or DNA) or behavioural features. Substantial research has been undertaken in the field of signature verification involving English signatures, but to the best of our knowledge, very few works have considered non-English signatures such as Chinese, Japanese, Arabic etc. In order to convey the state-of-the-art in the field to researchers, in this paper we present a survey of non-English and non-Latin signature verification systems

Self-Supervised Representation Learning for Online Handwriting Text Classification

Self-supervised learning offers an efficient way of extracting rich representations from various types of unlabeled data while avoiding the cost of annotating large-scale datasets. This is achievable by designing a pretext task to form pseudo labels with respect to the modality and domain of the data. Given the evolving applications of online handwritten texts, in this study, we propose the novel Part of Stroke Masking (POSM) as a pretext task for pretraining models to extract informative representations from the online handwriting of individuals in English and Chinese languages, along with two suggested pipelines for fine-tuning the pretrained models. To evaluate the quality of the extracted representations, we use both intrinsic and extrinsic evaluation methods. The pretrained models are fine-tuned to achieve state-of-the-art results in tasks such as writer identification, gender classification, and handedness classification, also highlighting the superiority of utilizing the pretrained models over the models trained from scratch

Abstract Chinese handwriting identification has become a hot research in pattern recognition and image processing. In this paper, we present overview of relevant papers from the previous related studies until to the recent publications regarding to the Chinese Handwriting Identification. The strength, weaknesses, accurateness and comparison of well known approaches are reviewed, summarized and documented. This paper provides broad spectrum of pattern recognition technology in assisting writer identification tasks, which are at the forefront of forensic and biometrics based on identification application
