Vision-based interface applied to assistive robots
This paper presents two vision-based interfaces for disabled people to command a mobile robot for personal assistance. The developed interfaces can be subdivided according to the algorithm of image processing implemented for the detection and tracking of two different body regions. The first interface detects and tracks movements of the user's head, and these movements are transformed into linear and angular velocities in order to command a mobile robot. The second interface detects and tracks movements of the user's hand, and these movements are similarly transformed. In addition, this paper also presents the control laws for the robot. The experimental results demonstrate good performance and balance between complexity and feasibility for real-time applications.Fil: Pérez Berenguer, María Elisa. Universidad Nacional de San Juan. Accurate position tracking with a single UWB anchor
Accurate localization and tracking are a fundamental requirement for robotic
applications. Localization systems like GPS, optical tracking, simultaneous
localization and mapping (SLAM) are used for daily life activities, research,
and commercial applications. Ultra-wideband (UWB) technology provides another
venue to accurately locate devices both indoors and outdoors. In this paper, we
study a localization solution with a single UWB anchor, instead of the
traditional multi-anchor setup. Besides the challenge of a single UWB ranging
source, the only other sensor we require is a low-cost 9 DoF inertial
measurement unit (IMU). Under such a configuration, we propose continuous
monitoring of UWB range changes to estimate the robot speed when moving on a
line. Combining speed estimation with orientation estimation from the IMU
sensor, the system becomes temporally observable. We use an Extended Kalman
Filter (EKF) to estimate the pose of a robot. With our solution, we can
effectively correct the accumulated error and maintain accurate tracking of a
moving robot.Comment: Accepted by ICRA202
A contribution to vision-based autonomous helicopter flight in urban environments
A navigation strategy that exploits the optic flow and inertial information to continuously avoid collisions with both lateral and frontal obstacles has been used to control a simulated helicopter flying autonomously in a textured urban environment. Experimental results demonstrate that the corresponding controller generates cautious behavior, whereby the helicopter tends to stay in the middle of narrow corridors, while its forward velocity is automatically reduced when the obstacle density increases. When confronted with a frontal obstacle, the controller is also able to generate a tight U-turn that ensures the UAV’s survival. The paper provides comparisons with related work, and discusses the applicability of the approach to real platforms
Seramai
325 orang pelajar Diploma in Construction Technology dari Kolej Kemahiran Tinggi
Evaluating indoor positioning systems in a shopping mall : the lessons learned from the IPIN 2018 competition
The Indoor Positioning and Indoor Navigation (IPIN) conference holds an annual competition in which indoor localization systems from different research groups worldwide are evaluated empirically. The objective of this competition is to establish a systematic evaluation methodology with rigorous metrics both for real-time (on-site) and post-processing (off-site) situations, in a realistic environment unfamiliar to the prototype developers. For the IPIN 2018 conference, this competition was held on September 22nd, 2018, in Atlantis, a large shopping mall in Nantes (France). Four competition tracks (two on-site and two off-site) were designed. They consisted of several 1 km routes traversing several floors of the mall. Along these paths, 180 points were topographically surveyed with a 10 cm accuracy, to serve as ground truth landmarks, combining theodolite measurements, differential global navigation satellite system (GNSS) and 3D scanner systems. 34 teams effectively competed. The accuracy score corresponds to the third quartile (75th percentile) of an error metric that combines the horizontal positioning error and the floor detection. The best results for the on-site tracks showed an accuracy score of 11.70 m (Track 1) and 5.50 m (Track 2), while the best results for the off-site tracks showed an accuracy score of 0.90 m (Track 3) and 1.30 m (Track 4). These results showed that it is possible to obtain high accuracy indoor positioning solutions in large, realistic environments using wearable light-weight sensors without deploying any beacon. This paper describes the organization work of the tracks, analyzes the methodology used to quantify the results, reviews the lessons learned from the competition and discusses its future
Robot autonomous navigation
Autonomous vehicle navigation is a very popular research area in the vision and control field. Based on Prof. Dickmanns' philosophy, we implement a navigation algorithm on thc small robot. The robot can rely on its eyes (the camera mounted on thc top of the robot) and control its wheels to walk through the sub-basement hallways of Caltech Moore Lab building. The speed we achieve is robot's mechanical maximum speed 0.5 m/s
Airborne chemical sensing with mobile robots
Airborne chemical sensing with mobile robots has been an active research areasince the beginning of the 1990s. This article presents a review of research work in this field, including gas distribution mapping, trail guidance, and the different subtasks of gas sourcelocalisation. Due to the difficulty of modelling gas distribution in a real world environmentwith currently available simulation techniques, we focus largely on experimental work and donot consider publications that are purely based on simulations
