    A Molecular Dynamics Simulation of the Human Lysozyme – Camelid VHH HL6 Antibody System

    Amyloid diseases such as Alzheimer’s and thrombosis are characterized by an aberrant assembly of specific proteins or protein fragments into fibrils and plaques that are deposited in various tissues and organs. The single-domain fragment of a camelid antibody was reported to be able to combat against wild-type human lysozyme for inhibiting in-vitro aggregations of the amyloidogenic variant (D67H). The present study is aimed at elucidating the unbinding mechanics between the D67H lysozyme and VHH HL6 antibody fragment by using steered molecular dynamics (SMD) simulations on a nanosecond scale with different pulling velocities. The results of the simulation indicated that stretching forces of more than two nano Newton (nN) were required to dissociate the proteinantibody system, and the hydrogen bond dissociation pathways were computed

    Efficiency of Finding Muon Track Trigger Primitives in CMS Cathode Strip Chambers

    In the CMS Experiment, muon detection in the forward direction is accomplished by cathode strip chambers~(CSC). These detectors identify muons, provide a fast muon trigger, and give a precise measurement of the muon trajectory. There are 468 six-plane CSCs in the system. The efficiency of finding muon trigger primitives (muon track segments) was studied using~36 CMS CSCs and cosmic ray muons during the Magnet Test and Cosmic Challenge~(MTCC) exercise conducted by the~CMS experiment in~2006. In contrast to earlier studies that used muon beams to illuminate a very small chamber area (< ⁣0.01< \! 0.01~m2^2), results presented in this paper were obtained by many installed CSCs operating {\em in situ} over an area of  ⁣23\approx \! 23~m2^2 as a part of the~CMS experiment. The efficiency of finding 2-dimensional trigger primitives within 6-layer chambers was found to be~99.93±0.03%99.93 \pm 0.03\%. These segments, found by the CSC electronics within 800800~ns after the passing of a muon through the chambers, are the input information for the Level-1 muon trigger and, also, are a necessary condition for chambers to be read out by the Data Acquisition System

    Discovering Jewish Studies Collections in Academic Libraries: A Practical Guide

    The U.S. colleges and universities offering non-sectarian educational programs in Jewish Studies rely on the support of their academic libraries for research materials and library services. For college libraries which use Library of Congress Classification scheme, it is a common practice to integrate studies resources into their general library collections. Since Jewish Studies sources span a vast number of subjects within all major disciplines, shelving integration leads to the dispersion of all relevant sources and such dispersion in turn leads to a variety of problems for library professionals and library users. For collection development librarians the problems range from lack of information about collection\u27s size, strengths or weaknesses, and for library users interested in browsing the collection, dispersion of subjects creates a major roadblock. This practical guide aims at providing a solution to such problems. By identifying all relevant Library of Congress call numbers and the corresponding Library of Congress subject headings, the guide offers a simplified access to Jewish Studies sources in general library collections. It is arranged by four major discipline: Arts & Humanities, Social Sciences, Sciences, and General Works & Bibliographies. Within each discipline, specific LC call number ranges and corresponding subjects are listed. The subjects are further subdivided and precisely identified. The guide will assist collection development librarians, library liaisons, grants and fundraising professionals and especially the Jewish Studies faculty and students, in identifying and locating relevant sources

    MPPT control technology based on the GWO-VINC algorithm

    It is a challenging task to accurately track the global maximum power point (GMPP) in a changing environment in widely used photovoltaic (PV) systems. So far, a variety of maximum power point (MPP) tracking algorithms have been used in solar PV power systems. The classical algorithm is simple and fast to track the speed effectively in a constant environment, but it can get stuck at an extreme point in a variable environment. In this paper, the variable-step incremental conductance (VINC) method is combined with the gray wolf optimization (GWO) algorithm. Firstly, GWO conducts a global search. When the search reaches the area near GMPP, the next step of the search process is carried out based on the iteration number conditions of GWO. Enter the search process of VINC and determine whether the current search process is on the left or right side of the vertex based on the current search value. And adjust the duty cycle during the VINC search process using different variable step size methods based on the left and right sides, and finally accurately locate the GMPP value. To verify the robustness of the proposed algorithm, simulation, and experimental comparisons were conducted between the proposed method in the article and GWO and VINC. The tracking efficiency of static shadows, simulated dynamic shadows, and experimental static and dynamic shadows is 99.80%, 98.82%, 99.43%, and 98.51%, respectively. The tracking time of simulation and experiment is 46.49% and 89.34% faster than GWO and VINC technologies, respectively. The results show that compared with the GWO and VINC methods, the proposed method has improved tracking speed and efficiency. Moreover, compared with the method that combines the two intelligent algorithms, this method has fewer algorithm parameters, a simple calculation process, lower complexity, lower hardware requirements, and better actual implementation performance
