    Robust variance-constrained H∞ control for stochastic systems with multiplicative noises

The official published version can be obtained from the link below - Copyright 2007 Elsevier Ltd.In this paper, the robust variance-constrained H∞ control problem is considered for uncertain stochastic systems with multiplicative noises. The norm-bounded parametric uncertainties enter into both the system and output matrices. The purpose of the problem is to design a state feedback controller such that, for all admissible parameter uncertainties, (1) the closed-loop system is exponentially mean-square quadratically stable; (2) the individual steady-state variance satisfies given upper bound constraints; and (3) the prescribed noise attenuation level is guaranteed in an H∞ sense with respect to the additive noise disturbances. A general framework is established to solve the addressed multiobjective problem by using a linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach, where the required stability, the H∞ characterization and variance constraints are all easily enforced. Within such a framework, two additional optimization problems are formulated: one is to optimize the H∞ performance, and the other is to minimize the weighted sum of the system state variances.     An LMI Approach to Discrete-Time Observer Design with Stochastic Resilience

    Much of the recent work on robust control or observer design has focused on preservation of stability of the controlled system or the convergence of the observer in the presence of parameter perturbations in the plant or the measurement model. The present work addresses the important problem of stochastic resilience or non-fragility of a discrete-time Luenberger observer which is the maintenance of convergence and/or performance when the observer is erroneously implemented possibly due to computational errors i.e. round off errors in digital implementation or sensor errors, etc. A common linear matrix inequality framework is presented to address the stochastic resilient design problem for various performance criteria in the implementation based on the knowledge of an upper bound on the variance of the random error in the observer gain. Present results are compared to earlier designs for stochastic robustness. Illustrative examples are given to complement the theoretical results

The system under consideration is subject to both deterministic and stochastic uncertainties. Sufficient conditions for the filter to guarantee an optimized upper bound on the state estimation error variance for admissible uncertainties are established in terms of two discrete Riccati difference equations. A numerical example is given to show the applicability of the presented method

    Robust H∞ control of time-varying systems with stochastic non-linearities: the finite-horizon case

    The official published version can be obtained from the link below.This paper is concerned with the robust H∞ control problem for the class of uncertain non-linear discrete time-varying stochastic systems with a covariance constraint. All the system parameters are time-varying and the uncertainties enter into the state matrix. The non-linearities under consideration are described by statistical means and they cover several classes of well-studied non-linearities. The purpose of the addressed problem is to design a dynamic output-feedback controller such that, the H∞ disturbance rejection attenuation level is achieved in the finite-horizon case while the state covariance is not more than an individual upper bound at each time point. An algorithm is developed to deal with the addressed problem by means of recursive linear matrix inequalities (RLMIs). It is shown that the robust H∞ control problem is solvable if the series of RLMIs is feasible.
