    On passivity and passification of stochastic fuzzy systems with delays: The discrete-time case

By choosing to view this document, you agree to all provisions of the copyright laws protecting it.Takagi–Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy models, which are usually represented by a set of linear submodels, can be used to describe or approximate any complex nonlinear systems by fuzzily blending these subsystems, and so, significant research efforts have been devoted to the analysis of such models. This paper is concerned with the passivity and passification problems of the stochastic discrete-time T-S fuzzy systems with delay. We first propose the definition of passivity in the sense of expectation. Then, by utilizing the Lyapunov functional method, the stochastic analysis combined with the matrix inequality techniques, a sufficient condition in terms of linear matrix inequalities is presented, ensuring the passivity performance of the T-S fuzzy models. Finally, based on this criterion, state feedback controller is designed, and several criteria are obtained to make the closed-loop system passive in the sense of expectation. The results acquired in this paper are delay dependent in the sense that they depend on not only the lower bound but also the upper bound of the time-varying delay. A modified Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy model is proposed in which the consequent parts are composed of a set of discrete-time state equations containing a repeated scalar nonlinearity. Such a model can describe some well-known nonlinear systems such as recurrent neural networks. The measurement transmission between the plant and controller is assumed to be imperfect and a stochastic variable satisfying the Bernoulli random binary distribution is utilized to represent the phenomenon of random packet losses. Attention is focused on the analysis and design of H∞ fuzzy controllers with the same repeated scalar nonlinearities such that the closed-loop T-S fuzzy control system is stochastically stable and preserves a guaranteed H∞ performance. Sufficient conditions are obtained for the existence of admissible controllers, and the cone complementarity linearization procedure is employed to cast the controller design problem into a sequential minimization one subject to linear matrix inequalities, which can be readily solved by using standard numerical software. Two examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed design method

    H∞ fuzzy filtering of nonlinear systems with intermittent measurements

    This paper is concerned with the problem of H∞ fuzzy filtering of nonlinear systems with intermittent measurements. The nonlinear plant is represented by a Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy model. The measurements transmission from the plant to the filter is assumed to be imperfect, and a stochastic variable satisfying the Bernoulli random binary distribution is utilized to model the phenomenon of the missing measurements. Attention is focused on the design of an H∞ filter such that the filter error system is stochastically stable and preserves a guaranteed H∞ performance. A basis-dependent Lyapunov function approach is developed to design the H∞ filter. By introducing some slack matrix variables, the coupling between the Lyapunov matrix and the system matrices is eliminated, which greatly facilitates the filter-design procedure. The developed theoretical results are in the form of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs).     A review of convex approaches for control, observation and safety of linear parameter varying and Takagi-Sugeno systems

    This paper provides a review about the concept of convex systems based on Takagi-Sugeno, linear parameter varying (LPV) and quasi-LPV modeling. These paradigms are capable of hiding the nonlinearities by means of an equivalent description which uses a set of linear models interpolated by appropriately defined weighing functions. Convex systems have become very popular since they allow applying extended linear techniques based on linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) to complex nonlinear systems. This survey aims at providing the reader with a significant overview of the existing LMI-based techniques for convex systems in the fields of control, observation and safety. Firstly, a detailed review of stability, feedback, tracking and model predictive control (MPC) convex controllers is considered. Secondly, the problem of state estimation is addressed through the design of proportional, proportional-integral, unknown input and descriptor observers. Among different kinds of models for fuzzy systems, the so-called Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy model has been quite popular due to its convenient and simple dynamic structure as well as its capability of approximating any smooth nonlinear function to any specified accuracy within any compact set. In terms of such a model, the performance analysis and the design of controllers and filters play important roles in the research of fuzzy systems. In this paper, we aim to survey some recent advances on the T-S fuzzy control and filtering problems with various network-induced phenomena. The network-induced phenomena under consideration mainly include communication delays, packet dropouts, signal quantization, and randomly occurring uncertainties (ROUs). With such network-induced phenomena, the developments on T-S fuzzy control and filtering issues are reviewed in detail. In addition, some latest results on this topic are highlighted.     Stability analysis and control design for 2-D fuzzy systems via basis-dependent Lyapunov functions

    This paper investigates the problem of stability analysis and stabilization for two-dimensional (2-D) discrete fuzzy systems. The 2-D fuzzy system model is established based on the Fornasini-Marchesini local state-space model, and a control design procedure is proposed based on a relaxed approach in which basis-dependent Lyapunov functions are used. First, nonquadratic stability conditions are derived by means of linear matrix inequality (LMI) technique. Then, by introducing an additional instrumental matrix variable, the stabilization problem for 2-D fuzzy systems is addressed, with LMI conditions obtained for the existence of stabilizing controllers.     Time-and event-driven communication process for networked control systems: A survey

In particular, an urgent need has arisen to understand the effects of communication processes on system performances. Sampling and protocol are two fundamental aspects of a communication process which have attracted a great deal of research attention. Most research focus has been on the analysis and control of dynamical behaviors under certain sampling procedures and communication protocols. In this paper, we aim to survey some recent advances on the analysis and synthesis issues of NCSs with different sampling procedures (time-and event-driven sampling) and protocols (static and dynamic protocols). First, these sampling procedures and protocols are introduced in detail according to their engineering backgrounds as well as dynamic natures. Then, the developments of the stabilization, control, and filtering problems are systematically reviewed and discussed in great detail.     Stability and stabilization of delayed T-S fuzzy systems: A delay partitioning approach

    This paper proposes a new approach, namely, the delay partitioning approach, to solving the problems of stability analysis and stabilization for continuous time-delay Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy systems. Based on the idea of delay fractioning, a new method is proposed for the delay-dependent stability analysis of fuzzy time-delay systems. Due to the instrumental idea of delay partitioning, the proposed stability condition is much less conservative than most of the existing results. The conservatism reduction becomes more obvious with the partitioning getting thinner. Based on this, the problem of stabilization via the so-called parallel distributed compensation scheme is also solved. Both the stability and stabilization results are further extended to time-delay fuzzy systems with time-varying parameter uncertainties. All the results are formulated in the form of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs), which can be readily solved via standard numerical software. The advantage of the results proposed in this paper lies in their reduced conservatism, as shown via detailed illustrative examples. The idea of delay partitioning is well demonstrated to be efficient for conservatism reduction and could be extended to solving other problems related to fuzzy delay systems. © 2009 IEEE.published_or_final_versio

    Improved results on fuzzy H ∞ filter design for T-S fuzzy systems

    The fuzzy H ∞ filter design problem for T-S fuzzy systems with interval time-varying delay is investigated. The delay is considered as the time-varying delay being either differentiable uniformly bounded with delay derivative in bounded interval or fast varying (with no restrictions on the delay derivative). A novel Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional is employed and a tighter upper bound of its derivative is obtained. The resulting criterion thus has advantages over the existing ones since we estimate the upper bound of the derivative of Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional without ignoring some useful terms. A fuzzy H ∞ filter is designed to ensure that the filter error system is asymptotically stable and has a prescribed H ∞ performance level. An improved delay-derivative-dependent condition for the existence of such a filter is derived in the form of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs).
