    Get PDF
This paper is concerned with the problem of H∞ fuzzy filtering of nonlinear systems with intermittent measurements. The nonlinear plant is represented by a Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy model. The measurements transmission from the plant to the filter is assumed to be imperfect, and a stochastic variable satisfying the Bernoulli random binary distribution is utilized to model the phenomenon of the missing measurements. Attention is focused on the design of an H∞ filter such that the filter error system is stochastically stable and preserves a guaranteed H∞ performance. A basis-dependent Lyapunov function approach is developed to design the H∞ filter. By introducing some slack matrix variables, the coupling between the Lyapunov matrix and the system matrices is eliminated, which greatly facilitates the filter-design procedure. The developed theoretical results are in the form of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Finally, an illustrative example is provided to show the effectiveness of the proposed approach. © 2009 IEEE.published_or_final_versio

The well-known types of incomplete information include parameter uncertainties and norm-bounded nonlinearities. Recently, in response to the development of network technologies, the phenomenon of randomly occurring incomplete information has become more and more prevalent. Such a phenomenon typically appears in a networked environment. Examples include, but are not limited to, randomly occurring uncertainties, randomly occurring nonlinearities, randomly occurring saturation, randomly missing measurements and randomly occurring quantization. Randomly occurring incomplete information, if not properly handled, would seriously deteriorate the performance of a control system. In this paper, we aim to survey some recent advances on the analysis and synthesis problems for nonlinear stochastic systems with randomly occurring incomplete information. The developments of the filtering, control and fault detection problems are systematically reviewed. Latest results on analysis and synthesis of nonlinear stochastic systems are discussed in great detail. In addition, various distributed filtering technologies over sensor networks are highlighted. Finally, some concluding remarks are given and some possible future research directions are pointed out. © 2012 Hongli Dong et al.This work was supported in part by the National Natural Science Foundation of China under Grants 61273156, 61134009, 61273201, 61021002, and 61004067, the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) of the UK under Grant GR/S27658/01, the Royal Society of the UK, the National Science Foundation of the USA under Grant No. HRD-1137732, and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation of German

This is an open access article distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution License, which permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited. The fuzzy logic theory has been proven to be effective in dealing with various nonlinear systems and has a great success in industry applications. Among different kinds of models for fuzzy systems, the so-called Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy model has been quite popular due to its convenient and simple dynamic structure as well as its capability of approximating any smooth nonlinear function to any specified accuracy within any compact set. In terms of such a model, the performance analysis and the design of controllers and filters play important roles in the research of fuzzy systems. In this paper, we aim to survey some recent advances on the T-S fuzzy control and filtering problems with various network-induced phenomena. The network-induced phenomena under consideration mainly include communication delays, packet dropouts, signal quantization, and randomly occurring uncertainties (ROUs). With such network-induced phenomena, the developments on T-S fuzzy control and filtering issues are reviewed in detail. In addition, some latest results on this topic are highlighted. In the end, conclusions are drawn and some possible future research directions are pointed out. This work was supported in part by the National Natural Science Foundation of China under Grants 61134009, 61329301, 11301118 and 61174136, the Natural Science Foundation of Jiangsu Province of China under Grant BK20130017, the Fundamental Research Funds for the Central Universities of China under Grant CUSF-DH-D-2013061, the Royal Society of the U.K., and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation of Germany

All the system parameters are time-varying and the uncertainty enters into the state matrix. The measurement missing phenomenon occurs in a random way, and the missing probability for each sensor is governed by an individual random variable satisfying a certain probabilistic distribution in the interval . The stochastic nonlinearities under consideration here are described by statistical means which can cover several classes of well-studied nonlinearities. Sufficient conditions are derived for a finite-horizon filter to satisfy both the estimation error variance constraints and the prescribed H ∞ performance requirement. These conditions are expressed in terms of the feasibility of a series of recursive linear matrix inequalities (RLMIs). Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the developed filter design scheme. This work was supported in part by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) of the U.K. by Grant GR/S27658/01, the Royal Society of the U.K., National Natural Science Foundation of China by Grants 60825303 and 60834003, National 973 Project of China by Grant 2009CB320600, Fok Ying Tung Education Foundation by Grant 111064, the Youth Science Fund of Heilongjiang Province of China by Grant QC2009C63, and by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation of Germany

A modified Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy model is proposed in which the consequent parts are composed of a set of discrete-time state equations containing a repeated scalar nonlinearity. Such a model can describe some well-known nonlinear systems such as recurrent neural networks. The measurement transmission between the plant and controller is assumed to be imperfect and a stochastic variable satisfying the Bernoulli random binary distribution is utilized to represent the phenomenon of random packet losses. Attention is focused on the analysis and design of H∞ fuzzy controllers with the same repeated scalar nonlinearities such that the closed-loop T-S fuzzy control system is stochastically stable and preserves a guaranteed H∞ performance. Sufficient conditions are obtained for the existence of admissible controllers, and the cone complementarity linearization procedure is employed to cast the controller design problem into a sequential minimization one subject to linear matrix inequalities, which can be readily solved by using standard numerical software. Two examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed design method

A sequence of random variables, all of which are mutually independent but obey Bernoulli distribution, are introduced to account for the randomly occurred communication delays. The packet dropout phenomenon occurs in a random way and the occurrence probability for each sensor is governed by an individual random variable satisfying a certain probabilistic distribution in the interval. The discrete-time system under consideration is also subject to parameter uncertainties, state-dependent stochastic disturbances and sector-bounded nonlinearities. We aim to design a linear full-order filter such that the estimation error converges to zero exponentially in the mean square while the disturbance rejection attenuation is constrained to a give level by means of the H∞ performance index. Intensive stochastic analysis is carried out to obtain sufficient conditions for ensuring the exponential stability as well as prescribed H∞ performance for the overall filtering error dynamics, in the presence of random delays, random dropouts, nonlinearities, and the parameter uncertainties. These conditions are characterized in terms of the feasibility of a set of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs), and then the explicit expression is given for the desired filter parameters. Simulation results are employed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed filter design technique in this paper. This work was supported in part by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) of the U.K. under Grant GR/S27658/01, the Royal Society of the U.K., the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation of Germany, National Natural Science Foundation of China under Grant 60825303, 60834003, 973 Project under Grant 2009CB320600, Fok Ying Tung Education Foundation under Grant 111064, and the Youth Science Fund of Heilongjiang Province under Grant QC2009C63

First of all, we recall several important algorithms suitable for gain-scheduling method including gain-scheduled proportional-integral derivative (PID) control, H 2, H ∞ and mixed H 2 / H ∞ gain-scheduling methods as well as fuzzy gain-scheduling techniques. Secondly, various important parameter-varying system models are reviewed, for which gain-scheduled control and filtering issues are usually dealt with. In particular, in view of the randomly occurring phenomena with time-varying probability distributions, some results of our recent work based on the probability-dependent gain-scheduling methods are reviewed. Furthermore, some latest progress in this area is discussed. This is the post-print version of the Article. The official published version can be accessed from the link below - Copyright @ 2012 ElsevierIn this paper, the H∞ filtering problem is investigated for a class of nonlinear systems with randomly occurring incomplete information. The considered incomplete information includes both the sensor saturations and the missing measurements. A new phenomenon of sensor saturation, namely, randomly occurring sensor saturation (ROSS), is put forward in order to better reflect the reality in a networked environment such as sensor networks. A novel sensor model is then established to account for both the ROSS and missing measurement in a unified representation by using two sets of Bernoulli distributed white sequences with known conditional probabilities. Based on this sensor model, a regional H∞ filter with a certain ellipsoid constraint is designed such that the filtering error dynamics is locally mean-square asymptotically stable and the H∞-norm requirement is satisfied. Note that the regional l2 gain filtering feature is specifically developed for the random saturation nonlinearity. The characterization of the desired filter gains is derived in terms of the solution to a convex optimization problem that can be easily solved by using the semi-definite program method. Finally, a simulation example is employed to show the effectiveness of the filtering scheme proposed in this paper. This work was supported in part by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) of the UK under Grant GR/S27658/01, the Royal Society of the UK, the National Natural Science Foundation of China under Grants 61028008 and 60974030, the National 973 Program of China under Grant 2009CB320600, and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation of Germany

Multisensor fusion and consensus filtering are two fascinating subjects in the research of sensor networks. In this survey, we will cover both classic results and recent advances developed in these two topics. First, we recall some important results in the development ofmultisensor fusion technology. Particularly, we pay great attention to the fusion with unknown correlations, which ubiquitously exist in most of distributed filtering problems. Next, we give a systematic review on several widely used consensus filtering approaches. Furthermore, some latest progress on multisensor fusion and consensus filtering is also presented. The official published version of the article can be found at the link below. This paper is concerned with the robust filtering problem for a class of nonlinear stochastic systems with missing measurements and parameter uncertainties. The missing measurements are described by a binary switching sequence satisfying a conditional probability distribution, and the nonlinearities are expressed by the statistical means. The purpose of the filtering problem is to design a filter such that, for all admissible uncertainties and possible measurements missing, the dynamics of the filtering error is exponentially mean-square stable, and the individual steady-state error variance is not more than prescribed upper bound. A sufficient condition for the exponential mean-square stability of the filtering error system is first derived and an upper bound of the state estimation error variance is then obtained. In terms of certain linear matrix inequalities (LMIs), the solvability of the addressed problem is discussed and the explicit expression of the desired filters is also parameterized. Finally, a simulation example is provided to demonstrate the effectiveness and applicability of the proposed design approach. This work was supported in part by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) of the UK under Grant GR/S27658/01, the Royal Society of the UK and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation of Germany
