This is a methodological chapter in which the question for investigation is how to describe the effects of technological mediation on learning. The chapter focuses on the use of language by learners enrolled on a course of English-for-specific purposes, which they attended entirely via the synchronous multimodal platform Lyceum. Data showing how learners utilise the resources of the environment in order to progress conversations with native-speaker tutors and with their peers is analysed. Three frameworks for the problematisation of technologically-mediated language use are proposed

Étude sur Les Perceptions et les Attentes des Professionnels de Santé, des Bénévoles et des Familles des Malades dans le Cadre de la Prise en Charge des Soins Palliatifs

This qualitative study, conducted in three metropolitan areas, Champagne Ardenne, Ile-de-France, and Languedoc-Roussillon explores current palliative care practices in 37 facilities, both for dependent elderly (nursing homes) and for adults and children with severe disabilities (MAS and IME). The study confronts the viewpoints of the different actors that revolve around a patient: doctors, nurses and other health professionals (physiotherapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, etc.), relatives, volunteers and patients themselves. 40 cases of sick children and adults were observed. From the analysis of the interviews, it appears that the palliative approach is still not fully adopted by teams that are reluctant to deal with the end of life and postpone the most difficult cases. Among the priorities to be developed are: the harmonization of the initial training of caregivers and ongoing training and the mobilization of specialist palliative care that could better support and assist caregivers in this sector

La Responsabilité Sociétale de L'entreprise et Les Réactions des Parties Prenantes : le Cas de L'opérateur Téléphonique Mtn et des Utilisateurs de Téléphonie Mobile au Bénin

The purpose of this research is to understand the mechanisms by which the actions of corporate social responsibility can affect organizational commitment and organizational identification consumers. From an experiment performed with video support of social responsibility of the telephone operator MTN Benin, data were collected from a sample of judgment seven hundred and ten mobile phone users. The analysis shows that the consumer perception of the actions of social responsibility of the company affects their commitment and organizational identification. Socially responsible consumption appears as a moderating variable to put direct links days. However, the communication by the company on its "good deeds" does not seem to affect these relationships

Identité, empreinte génétique et citoyenneté : réflexions philosophiques

Dans quelle mesure la biométrie, et plus spécifiquement l’empreinte génétique, dans un contexte de globalisation, de flux migratoires, et de chasse au terrorisme, vient-elle modifier le rapport de l’individu à sa citoyenneté ?Pour tenter de répondre à cette question, nous rappellerons quelques aspects théoriques de la citoyenneté. L’historique des mesures d’encartement liées à l’avènement de la citoyenneté y sera aussi rapidement présenté. Nous évoquerons ensuite le contexte actuel de l’usage de la biométrie à des fins d’identification et les motifs invoqués par la Communauté européenne et les États-Unis. Nous examinerons plus attentivement le cas précis de l’empreinte génétique avec les exemples du Canada et des États-Unis. Finalement, l’empreinte génétique et l’identité personnelle seront mises en relation à partir du concept d’identité narrative de Paul Ricoeur. Nous montrerons comment les critères ethno-raciaux utilisés par la biométrie ; concomitamment avec l’idéologie du multiculturalisme ; construisent une nouvelle narration occidentale de l’Autre, qui l’exclut de la sphère de la citoyenneté.In a context of globalization, migratory flows and the hunt for terrorists, how are biometrics, and, more specifically, the notion of the human DNA Typing, changing the individual’s relationship to his or her citizenship ?To try to answer this question, we review some of the theoretical aspects of citizenship and briefly outline the history of identification measures linked to the advent of citizenship. We then examine the current context of the use of biometrics for identification purposes and the reasons for its use as cited by the European Community and the United States. We more particularly look at the case of the human DNA Typing, using examples from Canada and the United States. The genetic footprint is related to personal identity based on Paul Ricoeur’s concept of narrative identity. We show how the ethno-racial criteria used by biometrics, together with the ideology of multiculturalism, are constructing, in the West, a new narration of the Other, of foreigners, which excludes them from the sphere of citizenship.¿En qué medida la biometría, y más específicamente la huella genética, en un contexto de globalización, de flujos migratorios y de persecución al terrorismo, modifican la relación del individuo con su ciudadanía ?Con el fin de intentar responder a esta pregunta, recordaremos algunos aspectos teóricos de la ciudadanía así como la historia de las medidas de su constitución, asociadas al advenimiento de la ciudadanía. Luego evocaremos el contexto actual de la utilización de la biometría con fines de identificación y los motivos invocados por la Comunidad europea y Estados Unidos. Examinaremos con mayor atención el caso preciso de la huella genética, basados en ejemplos de Canadá y Estados Unidos. La huella genética y la identidad personal serán relacionadas a partir del concepto de identidad narrativa, de Paul Ricoeur. Mostraremos cómo los criterios etno-raciales utilizados por la biometría, de manera concomitante con la ideología del multiculturalismo, construyen una nueva narración occidental del Otro, que lo excluye de la esfera de la ciudadanía

Discrete isometry groups of symmetric spaces

This survey is based on a series of lectures that we gave at MSRI in Spring 2015 and on a series of papers, mostly written jointly with Joan Porti. Our goal here is to: 1. Describe a class of discrete subgroups $\Gamma<G$ of higher rank semisimple Lie groups, which exhibit some "rank 1 behavior". 2. Give different characterizations of the subclass of Anosov subgroups, which generalize convex-cocompact subgroups of rank 1 Lie groups, in terms of various equivalent dynamical and geometric properties (such as asymptotically embedded, RCA, Morse, URU). 3. Discuss the topological dynamics of discrete subgroups $\Gamma$ on flag manifolds associated to $G$ and Finsler compactifications of associated symmetric spaces $X=G/K$. Find domains of proper discontinuity and use them to construct natural bordifications and compactifications of the locally symmetric spaces $X/\Gamma$.Comment: 77 page
