Smart handoff technique for internet of vehicles communication using dynamic edge-backup node

Nowadays, IoV has turned into an interesting field of research as vehicles can be equipped with processors, sensors, and communication devices. IoV gives rise to handoff, which involves changing the connection points during the online communication session. This presents a major challenge for which many standardized solutions are recommended. Although there are various proposed techniques and methods to support seamless handover procedure in IoV, there are still some open research issues, such as unavoidable packet loss rate and latency. On the other hand, the emerged concept of edge mobile computing has gained crucial attention by researchers that could help in reducing computational complexities and decreasing communication delay. Hence, this paper specifically studies the handoff challenges in cluster based handoff using new concept of dynamic edge-backup node. The outcomes are evaluated and contrasted with the network mobility method, our proposed technique, and other cluster-based technologies. The results show that coherence in communication during the handoff method can be upgraded, enhanced, and improved utilizing the proposed technique.Published onlin
Using Media Independent Handover to Support PMIPv6 Inter-domain Mobility Based Vehicular Networks
Proxy Mobile IPv6 (PMIPv6) was proposed by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) as a new network-based mobility protocol which does not require the involvement of MN’s in any form of mobility management. MN can handover relatively faster in PMIPv6 than in host-based mobility protocols (e.g. Mobile IPv6 (MIPv6)) because it actively uses link-layer attachment information which reduces the movement detection time, and eliminates duplicate address detection procedures. However, the current PMIPv6 cannot provide continuous mobility support for MN when roaming between different PMIPv6 domains; we introduce a novel inter-domain PMIPv6 scheme to support seamless handover for vehicle in motion to support continuous and seamless connection while roaming in the new PMIPv6 domain. In this paper we analytically evaluate our proposed scheme to support inter-domain mobility for vehicle roaming between two PMIPv6 domains by using Media Independent Handover (MIH) and Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) to support the handover in addition to a continuous connection
A Survey on Proxy Mobile IPv6 Handover
[EN] As wireless technologies have been improving in recent years, a mobility management mechanism is required to provide seamless and ubiquitous mobility for end users who are roaming among points of attachment in wireless networks. Thus, Mobile IPv6 was developed by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) to support the mobility service. However, Mobile IPv6 is unable to fulfill the requirements of real-time applications, such as video streaming service and voice over IP service, due to its high handover (HO) latency. To address this problem, Proxy Mobile IPv6 (PMIPv6) has been introduced by the IETF. In PMIPv6, which is a network-based approach, the serving network controls mobility management on behalf of the mobile node (MN). Thus, the MN is not required to participate in any mobility-related signaling. However, the PMIPv6 still suffers from lengthy HO latency and packet loss during a HO. Location Management in IP-based Future LEO Satellite Networks: A Review
Future integrated terrestrial, aerial, and space networks will involve
thousands of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites forming a network of
mega-constellations, which will play a significant role in providing
communication and Internet services everywhere, at any time, and for
everything. Due to its very large scale and highly dynamic nature, future LEO
satellite networks (SatNets) management is a very complicated and crucial
process, especially the mobility management aspect and its two components
location management and handover management. In this article, we present a
comprehensive and critical review of the state-of-the-art research in LEO
SatNets location management. First, we give an overview of the Internet
Engineering Task Force (IETF) mobility management standards (e.g., Mobile IPv6
and Proxy Mobile IPv6) and discuss their location management techniques
limitations in the environment of future LEO SatNets. We highlight future LEO
SatNets mobility characteristics and their challenging features and describe
two unprecedented future location management scenarios. A taxonomy of the
available location management solutions for LEO SatNets is presented, where the
solutions are classified into three approaches. The "Issues to consider"
section draws attention to critical points related to each of the reviewed
approaches that should be considered in future LEO SatNets location management.
To identify the gaps, the current state of LEO SatNets location management is
summarized. Noteworthy future research directions are recommended. This article
is providing a road map for researchers and industry to shape the future of LEO

Performance analysis of BUNSD-LMA
The IETF is developed Network Mobility Basic
Support (NEMO BSP) to support session continuity and
reachability to the Mobile Network Nodes (MNNs) as one
unit while they move. While NEMO move and attached to
different networks, it needs to register the MNNs. This
function of registration decreases the performance of
NEMO. NEMO BSP suffers from some challenges. The
most important of these challenges are route optimization,
seamless mobility, handover latency and registration time.
Binding Update No Sense Drop (BUNSD) Binding Cache
Entry (BCE) in Local Mobility Anchor (LMA) is
proposed to find a possible solution to MNNs. MNNs that
are roaming in a Proxy Mobile IPv6 (PMIPv6) domain to
perform seamless mobility while they are maintaining
their session continuity through mobile router (MR). In
this paper, BUNSD-LMA is analyzed mathematically
with NEMO BS based on handover latency, total packet
delivery delay cost, and throughput time during handoff.
The analytical result shows that the BUNSD-LMA had
better performance in term of handover, and registrations
of MNNs. As a result the total packet loss is decreased
and seamless mobility of MNNs enhanced compared to
NEMO BS benchmarks.

Handover in Mobile WiMAX Networks: The State of Art and Research Issues
The next-generation Wireless Metropolitan Area
Networks, using the Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave
Access (WiMAX) as the core technology based on the IEEE
802.16 family of standards, is evolving as a Fourth-Generation
(4G) technology. With the recent introduction of mobility management
frameworks in the IEEE 802.16e standard, WiMAX
is now placed in competition to the existing and forthcoming
generations of wireless technologies for providing ubiquitous
computing solutions. However, the success of a good mobility
framework largely depends on the capability of performing fast
and seamless handovers irrespective of the deployed architectural
scenario. Now that the IEEE has defined the Mobile WiMAX
(IEEE 802.16e) MAC-layer handover management framework,
the Network Working Group (NWG) of the WiMAX Forum
is working on the development of the upper layers. However,
the path to commercialization of a full-fledged WiMAX mobility
framework is full of research challenges. This article focuses on
potential handover-related research issues in the existing and
future WiMAX mobility framework. A survey of these issues in
the MAC, Network and Cross-Layer scenarios is presented along
with discussion of the different solutions to those challenges. A
comparative study of the proposed solutions, coupled with some
insights to the relevant issues, is also included
IP Mobility in Aeronautical Communications
International audienceIn the sake of modernization, aviation stakeholders decided that the future aviation network infrastructure, in particular for air-ground communication systems, will move towards IP based networks. It has been referred to in the International Civil Aviation Organization as Aeronautical Telecommunication Network/Internet Protocol Suite. Due to the heterogeneous communication environment , it is necessary to support handover between different access technologies and access networks. In this article, we first define the very specific aeronautical communication environment. Our main contribution is a performance assessment of the most deployed network protocols capable of managing IP mobility within the aeronautical environment.
