A low complexity resource allocation algorithm for multicast service delivery in OFDMA networks
Allocating and managing radio resources to multicast transmissions in Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) systems is the challenging research issue addressed by this paper. A subgrouping technique, which divides the subscribers into subgroups according to the experienced channel quality, is considered to overcome the throughput limitations of conventional multicast data delivery schemes. A low complexity algorithm, designed to work with different resource allocation strategies, is also proposed to reduce the computational complexity of the subgroup formation problem. Simulation results, carried out by considering the Long Term Evolution (LTE) system based on OFDMA, testify the effectiveness of the proposed solution, which achieves a near-optimal performance with a limited computational load for the system
Decentralized Fair Scheduling in Two-Hop Relay-Assisted Cognitive OFDMA Systems
In this paper, we consider a two-hop relay-assisted cognitive downlink OFDMA
system (named as secondary system) dynamically accessing a spectrum licensed to
a primary network, thereby improving the efficiency of spectrum usage. A
cluster-based relay-assisted architecture is proposed for the secondary system,
where relay stations are employed for minimizing the interference to the users
in the primary network and achieving fairness for cell-edge users. Based on
this architecture, an asymptotically optimal solution is derived for jointly
controlling data rates, transmission power, and subchannel allocation to
optimize the average weighted sum goodput where the proportional fair
scheduling (PFS) is included as a special case. This solution supports
decentralized implementation, requires small communication overhead, and is
robust against imperfect channel state information at the transmitter (CSIT)
and sensing measurement. The proposed solution achieves significant throughput
gains and better user-fairness compared with the existing designs. Finally, we
derived a simple and asymptotically optimal scheduling solution as well as the
associated closed-form performance under the proportional fair scheduling for a
large number of users. The system throughput is shown to be
, where is the
number of users in one cluster, is the number of subchannels and is
the active probability of primary users.Comment: 29 pages, 9 figures, IEEE JOURNAL OF SELECTED TOPICS IN SIGNAL

MLTE Algorithm for Multicast Service Delivery in OFDMA Networks
Dispensing and overseeing radio resources to the multi-cast transmissions in OFDMA (orthogonal-frequency division-multiple-access) systems is testing exploration issue tended to by this paper. A sub-grouping technique, which separates the subscribers into subgroups as indicated by the accomplished channel quality, is considered to defeat the throughput confinements of conventional multicast data conveyance schemes. A low complexity algorithm intended to work with diverse resource allocation strategies, is additionally proposed to diminish the computational complexity of the subgroup development issue. Reproduction results, did by considering the long term evolution system taking into account OFDMA, affirm the adequacy of the proposed arrangement, which accomplishes a close ideal execution with a restricted computational load for the system. In this paper we are introducing the MLTE for improve the MBPS speed for fix network coverage at uniform and sparse.

An Analytical Framework for Heterogeneous Partial Feedback Design in Heterogeneous Multicell OFDMA Networks
The inherent heterogeneous structure resulting from user densities and large
scale channel effects motivates heterogeneous partial feedback design in
heterogeneous networks. In such emerging networks, a distributed scheduling
policy which enjoys multiuser diversity as well as maintains fairness among
users is favored for individual user rate enhancement and guarantees. For a
system employing the cumulative distribution function based scheduling, which
satisfies the two above mentioned desired features, we develop an analytical
framework to investigate heterogeneous partial feedback in a general
OFDMA-based heterogeneous multicell employing the best-M partial feedback
strategy. Exact sum rate analysis is first carried out and closed form
expressions are obtained by a novel decomposition of the probability density
function of the selected user's signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio. To
draw further insight, we perform asymptotic analysis using extreme value theory
to examine the effect of partial feedback on the randomness of multiuser
diversity, show the asymptotic optimality of best-1 feedback, and derive an
asymptotic approximation for the sum rate in order to determine the minimum
required partial feedback.Comment: To appear in IEEE Trans. on Signal Processin
Performance Analysis of Heterogeneous Feedback Design in an OFDMA Downlink with Partial and Imperfect Feedback
Current OFDMA systems group resource blocks into subband to form the basic
feedback unit. Homogeneous feedback design with a common subband size is not
aware of the heterogeneous channel statistics among users. Under a general
correlated channel model, we demonstrate the gain of matching the subband size
to the underlying channel statistics motivating heterogeneous feedback design
with different subband sizes and feedback resources across clusters of users.
Employing the best-M partial feedback strategy, users with smaller subband size
would convey more partial feedback to match the frequency selectivity. In order
to develop an analytical framework to investigate the impact of partial
feedback and potential imperfections, we leverage the multi-cluster subband
fading model. The perfect feedback scenario is thoroughly analyzed, and the
closed form expression for the average sum rate is derived for the
heterogeneous partial feedback system. We proceed to examine the effect of
imperfections due to channel estimation error and feedback delay, which leads
to additional consideration of system outage. Two transmission strategies: the
fix rate and the variable rate, are considered for the outage analysis. We also
investigate how to adapt to the imperfections in order to maximize the average
goodput under heterogeneous partial feedback.Comment: To appear in IEEE Trans. on Signal Processin

LTE system level performance in the presence of CQI feedback uplink delay and mobility
Long Term Evolution (LTE) is a promising technology for the wireless and mobile communication systems and is being commercially launched in various countries of the world. The Third Generation of Partnership Project (3GPP), through de- sign and optimisation of new radio access techniques, is further developing the future LTE-Advanced technology to remain on the forefront of wireless technologies. However, it is still challenging in LTE to provide the desired quality of service to the users particularly in the presence of high mobility and uplink feedback delay. In this paper, the impact of Channel Quality Indicator (CQI) uplink feedback delay on the overall network performance under different scheduling algorithms and mobility patterns is discussed. We study average user equipment (UE) throughput, average cell-edge UE throughput and average cell throughput under mobility and conclude that for an efficient LTE-Advanced scheduling algorithm, UE speed and CQI feedback delay must be taken into account
LTE-verkon suorituskyvyn parantaminen CDMA2000:sta LTE:hen tehdyn muutoksen jälkeen
CDMA2000 technology has been widely used on 450 MHz band. Recently the equipment availability and improved performance offered by LTE has started driving the operators to migrate their networks from CDMA2000 to LTE. The migration may cause the network performance to be in suboptimal state.
This thesis presents four methods to positively influence LTE network performance after CDMA2000 to LTE migration, especially on 450 MHz band. Furthermore, three of the four presented methods are evaluated in a live network. The measured three methods were cyclic prefix length, handover parameter optimization and uplink coordinated multipoint (CoMP) transmission. The objective was to determine the effectiveness of each method. The research methods included field measurements and network KPI collection.
The results show that normal cyclic prefix length is enough for LTE450 although the cell radius may be up to 50km. Only special cases exist where cyclic prefix should be extended. Operators should consider solving such problems individually instead of widely implementing extended cyclic prefix.
Handover parameter optimization turned out to be an important point of attention after CDMA2000 to LTE migration. It was observed that if the handover parameters are not concerned, significant amount of unnecessary handovers may happen. It was evaluated that about 50% of the handovers in the network were unnecessary in the initial situation. By adjusting the handover parameter values 47,28 % of the handovers per user were removed and no negative effects were detected.
Coordinated multipoint transmission has been widely discussed to be an effective way to improve LTE network performance, especially at the cell edges. Many challenges must be overcome before it can be applied to downlink. Also, implementing it to function between cells in different eNBs involve challenges. Thus, only intra-site uplink CoMP transmission was tested. The results show that the performance improvements were significant at the cell edges as theory predicted.CDMA2000 teknologiaa on laajalti käytetty 450 MHz:n taajuusalueella. Viime aikoina LTE:n tarjoamat halvemmat laitteistot ja parempi suorituskyky ovat kannustaneet operaattoreita muuttamaan verkkoaan CDMA2000:sta LTE:hen. Kyseinen muutos saattaa johtaa epäoptimaaliseen tilaan verkon suorituskyvyn kannalta.
Lähtötilanteessa noin 50 % testiverkon solunvaihdoista arvioitiin olevan turhia. Solunvaihtoparametreja muuttamalla 47,28 % solunvaihdoista per käyttäjä saatiin poistettua ilman, että mitään haittavaikutuksia olisi huomattu.
Koordinoidun monipistetiedonsiirron on laajalti sanottu olevan tehokas tapa parantaa LTE-verkon suorituskykyä, etenkin solujen reunoilla.
Information Technology
The new millennium has been labeled as the century of the personal communications revolution or more specifically, the digital wireless communications revolution. The introduction of new multimedia services has created higher loads on available radio resources. These services can be presented in different levels of quality of service. Namely, the task of the radio resource manager is to provide these levels. Radio resources are scarce and need to be shared by many users. The sharing has to be carried out in an efficient way avoiding as much as possible any waste of resources.
The main contribution focus of this work is on radio resource management in opportunistic systems. In opportunistic communications dynamic rate and power allocation may be performed over the dimensions of time, frequency and space in a wireless system. In this work a number of these allocation schemes are proposed.
A downlink scheduler is introduced in this work that controls the activity of the users. The scheduler is a simple integral controller that controls the activity of users, increasing or decreasing it depending on the degree of proximity to a requested quality of service level. The scheduler is designed to be a best effort scheduler; that is, in the event the requested quality of service (QoS) cannot be attained, users are always guaranteed the basic QoS level provided by a proportional fair scheduler. In a proportional fair scheduler, the user with the best rate quality factor is selected. The rate quality here is the instantaneous achievable rate divided by the average throughput
Uplink scheduling is more challenging than its downlink counterpart due to signalling restrictions and additional constraints on resource allocations. For instance, in long term evolution systems, single carrier FDMA is to be utilized which requires the frequency domain resource allocation to be done in such a way that a user could only be allocated subsequent bands. We suggest for the uplink a scheduler that follows a heuristic approach in its decision. The scheduler is mainly based on the gradient algorithm that maximizes the gradient of a certain utility. The utility could be a function of any QoS. In addition, an optimal uplink scheduler for the same system is presented. This optimal scheduler is valid in theory only,
nevertheless, it provides a considerable benchmark for evaluation of performance for the heuristic scheduler as well as other algorithms of the same system.
A study is also made for the feedback information in a multi-carrier system. In a multi-carrier system, reporting the channel state information (CSI) of every subcarrier will result in huge overhead and consequent waste in bandwidth. In this work the subcarriers are grouped into subbands which are in turn grouped into blocks and a study is made to find the minimum amount of information for the adaptive modulation and coding (AMC) of the blocks.
The thesis also deals with admission control and proposes an opportunistic admission controller. The controller gradually integrates a new user requesting admission into the system. The system is probed to examine the effect of the new user on existing connections. The user is finally fully admitted if by the end of the probing, the quality of service (QoS) of existing connections did not drop below a certain threshold.
It is imperative to mention that the research work of this thesis is mainly focused on non-real time applications.fi=Opinnäytetyö kokotekstinä PDF-muodossa.|en=Thesis fulltext in PDF format.|sv=Lärdomsprov tillgängligt som fulltext i PDF-format
Dynamic resource management for LTE-based hybrid access femtocell systems
Hybrid access femtocells for long term evolution (LTE)-based cellular networks provide a tradeoff between closed and open access femtocells whereby all subscribers are granted access albeit with priority given to closed access subscribers. Due to the need to accommodate both closed and open access subscribers, quality of service (QoS) provisioning for LTE-based hybrid access femtocells has become more challenging. This paper addresses this issue and proposes a new dynamic resource management scheme for such hybrid architectures. In particular, the proposed scheme first classifies and performs lexicographic admission control on the incoming traffic data flows using an optimal greedy algorithm. A suboptimal delay-bounded packet scheduling algorithm and a dual decomposition-based power allocation algorithm are developed to solve the non-convex maximization problem such that the weighted sum rate of each femtocell is maximized, subject to bounded packet delays and power constraints. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme can significantly outperform existing schemes in terms of QoS, throughput and fairness
