    AN INTERVAL TYPE 2 FUZZY EVIDENTIAL REASONING APPROACH TO PERSONNEL RECRUITMENT

    Recruitment process is a procedure of selecting an ideal candidate amongst different applicants who suit the qualifications required by the given institution in the best way. Due to the multi criteria nature of the recruitment process, it involves contradictory, numerous and incommensurable criteria that are based on quantitative and qualitative measurements. Quantitative criteria evaluation are not always dependent on the judgement of the expert, they are expressed in either monetary terms or engineering measurements, meanwhile qualitative criteria evaluation depend on the subjective judgement of the decision maker, human evaluation which is often characterized with subjectivity and uncertainties in decision making. Given the uncertain, ambiguous, and vague nature of recruitment process there is need for an applicable methodology that could resolve various inherent uncertainties of human evaluation during the decision making process. This work thus proposes an interval type 2 fuzzy evidential reasoning approach to recruitment process. The approach is in three phases; in the first phase in order to capture word uncertainty an interval type 2(IT2) fuzzy set Hao and Mendel Approach (HMA) is proposed to model the qualification requirement for recruitment process. This approach will cater for both intra and inter uncertainty in decision makers’judgments and demonstrates agreements by all subjects (decision makers) for the regular overlap of subject data intervals and the manner in which data intervals are collectively classified into their respective footprint of uncertainty. In the second phase the Intervaltype 2 fuzzy Analytical hierarchical process was employed as the weighting model to determine the weight of each criterion gotten from the decision makers. In the third phase the interval type 2 fuzzy was hybridized with the ranking evidential reasoning algorithm to evaluate each applicant to determine their final score in order to choose the most ideal candidate for recruitment.The implementation tool for phase two and three is Java programming language. Application of this proposed approach in recruitment process will resolve both intra and inter uncertainty in decision maker’s judgement and give room for consistent ranking even in place of incomplete requirement

    Analysis of Decision Support Systems of Industrial Relevance: Application Potential of Fuzzy and Grey Set Theories

    The present work articulates few case empirical studies on decision making in industrial context. Development of variety of Decision Support System (DSS) under uncertainty and vague information is attempted herein. The study emphases on five important decision making domains where effective decision making may surely enhance overall performance of the organization. The focused territories of this work are i) robot selection, ii) g-resilient supplier selection, iii) third party logistics (3PL) service provider selection, iv) assessment of supply chain’s g-resilient index and v) risk assessment in e-commerce exercises. Firstly, decision support systems in relation to robot selection are conceptualized through adaptation to fuzzy set theory in integration with TODIM and PROMETHEE approach, Grey set theory is also found useful in this regard; and is combined with TODIM approach to identify the best robot alternative. In this work, an attempt is also made to tackle subjective (qualitative) and objective (quantitative) evaluation information simultaneously, towards effective decision making. Supplier selection is a key strategic concern for the large-scale organizations. In view of this, a novel decision support framework is proposed to address g-resilient (green and resilient) supplier selection issues. Green capability of suppliers’ ensures the pollution free operation; while, resiliency deals with unexpected system disruptions. A comparative analysis of the results is also carried out by applying well-known decision making approaches like Fuzzy- TOPSIS and Fuzzy-VIKOR. In relation to 3PL service provider selection, this dissertation proposes a novel ‘Dominance- Based’ model in combination with grey set theory to deal with 3PL provider selection, considering linguistic preferences of the Decision-Makers (DMs). An empirical case study is articulated to demonstrate application potential of the proposed model. The results, obtained thereof, have been compared to that of grey-TOPSIS approach. Another part of this dissertation is to provide an integrated framework in order to assess gresilient (ecosilient) performance of the supply chain of a case automotive company. The overall g-resilient supply chain performance is determined by computing a unique ecosilient (g-resilient) index. The concepts of Fuzzy Performance Importance Index (FPII) along with Degree of Similarity (DOS) (obtained from fuzzy set theory) are applied to rank different gresilient criteria in accordance to their current status of performance. The study is further extended to analyze, and thereby, to mitigate various risk factors (risk sources) involved in e-commerce exercises. A total forty eight major e-commerce risks are recognized and evaluated in a decision making perspective by utilizing the knowledge acquired from the fuzzy set theory. Risk is evaluated as a product of two risk quantifying parameters viz. (i) Likelihood of occurrence and, (ii) Impact. Aforesaid two risk quantifying parameters are assessed in a subjective manner (linguistic human judgment), rather than exploring probabilistic approach of risk analysis. The ‘crisp risk extent’ corresponding to various risk factors are figured out through the proposed fuzzy risk analysis approach. The risk factor possessing high ‘crisp risk extent’ score is said be more critical for the current problem context (toward e-commerce success). Risks are now categorized into different levels of severity (adverse consequences) (i.e. negligible, minor, marginal, critical and catastrophic). Amongst forty eight risk sources, top five risk sources which are supposed to adversely affect the company’s e-commerce performance are recognized through such categorization. The overall risk extent is determined by aggregating individual risks (under ‘critical’ level of severity) using Fuzzy Inference System (FIS). Interpretive Structural Modeling (ISM) is then used to obtain structural relationship amongst aforementioned five risk sources. An appropriate action requirement plan is also suggested, to control and minimize risks associated with e-commerce exercises

    Unapređenje EDAS metode višekriterijumskog odlučivanja u evaluaciji i rangiranju kadrova

    Višekriterijumsko odlučivanje kao tema već neko vreme egzistira na naučnoj sceni, ali je poslednjih godina sve zastupljenije i postaje predmet brojnih istraživanja i sve šire primene. U ovoj doktorskoj disertaciji analizirane su oblasti upravljanja ljudskim resursima, osnove teorije odlučivanja i kriterijumi za izbor i rangiranje kandidata za rad u turističkoj privredi. Izvršena je i klasifikacija metoda višekriterijumske analize s osvrtom na primenu fuzzy i rough skupova u situacijama neodređenosti, neuređenosti i nesigurnosti. Analizirane su klasifikovane metode kako bi se došlo do najadekvatnije metode višekriterijumske analize za rangiranje studenata u smislu zadovoljenja specifičnih zahteva koji proističu iz projekta „Posredovanje u zapošlajvanju studenata“, skraćeno PUZS, odnosno iz baze podataka studenata i potreba donosilaca odluka iz turističke privrede. Detaljno je opisana metoda EDAS koja je izabrana kao pogodna za rad s velikim brojem alternativa i koja svojim pozitivnim PDA i negativnim NDA rastojanjima od srednje vrednosti daje bolji uvid u samu strukturu podataka. Na osnovu uočenih nedostataka koji su se pokazali tokom testiranja metode, a koji se odnose na veliki raspon vrednosti atributa po nekim kriterijumima uz istovremeno mali raspon vrenosti po nekim drugim kriterijumima, urađena je prva ekstenzija metode EDAS u EDAS+. Za rešavanje problema proizašlih iz zahteva poslodavaca, uveden je pojam intervalnih kriterijuma i izrađen je matematički model za transponovanje vrednosti u zadate okvire, kao i implementacija matematičkog modela u EDAS+, čime je dobijena nova ekstenzija EDAS metode – EDAS++. U disertaciji su klasifikovane metode za određivanje težinskih kriterijuma te metode za agregaciju rezultata kada je u pitanju grupno donošenje odluka

    Modeling the interrelationships among barriers to sustainable supply chain management in leather industry

    © 2018 Elsevier Ltd The leather industry of Bangladesh is facing considerable amounts of pressure to adopt sustainable supply chain management (SSCM). While there are some studies that have examined barriers to SSCM practices in developed and developing countries in various domains, these are not necessarily applicable to the Bangladeshi leather industry. To bridge this gap, it is crucial to identify most influential barriers to SSCM practices, particularly in the context of developing economies. Therefore, this study identifies such barriers and examines the causal relationships between them with an aim to facilitate the effective implementation of SSCM in the Bangladeshi leather processing industry. Thirty-five barriers to SSCM implementation were identified through a detailed literature review and a survey of leather processing industry experts. Among them, the most common 20 barriers were selected with the help of industry experts. Then, a blended, grey-based Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) approach was utilized to examine their interrelationships. The results demonstrate that nine barriers could be classified as “causal” and eleven as “influenced”. ‘Lack of awareness of local customers in green products’ and ‘lack of commitment from top management’ took high priority in the causal group. ‘Lack of reverse logistics practices’ and ‘Outdated machineries’ were the most influenced barriers. This research uses a leather processing company as a case study for demonstrating the proposed model. The findings aim to support the leather processing industry in a structural way, so that industrial managers can identify the most influential barriers and work to eliminate them. This study may be useful to stakeholders to achieve sustainable development

Digital data has been applied in the domain of healthcare for the detection of an outbreak of infectious diseases, clinical decision support, personalized care, and genomics. This paper will serve as a review of the rapidly evolving field of digital health. More specifically, we will discuss (1) big data and physical health, (2) big data and mental health, (3) digital contact tracing during the COVID-19 pandemic, and finally, (4) ethical issues with using digital data for health-related purposes. With this review, we aim to stimulate a public debate on the appropriate usage of digital data in the health sector

    A Mobile Holistic Enterprise Transformation Framework

    Mobile phones and tablets shipments are surpassing those of the PC category, as well as in relation to Internet usage as of 2016; all details which have made mobile adoption a priority for many enterprises and a challenge for them as well. Many enterprises have fallen into a paradox of spending on creating and updating mobile services, and gaining less than expected in return. Reasons for this include the lack of vision, and the lack of a clearly defined, well communicated mobile strategy. Enterprise Architecture ‘EA’ facilitates a successful transformation by controlling and managing the transitions in order to arrive at a clearly defined future state. It is regarded as the science of change to many. However, EA frameworks are very comprehensive and require weeks of training and resources, and are often too generic for mobile transformation. Therefore, an EA-based mobile holistic enterprise framework has been developed to support enterprises in making mobile initiatives a priority. The proposed framework ensures a clearly defined, well-communicated, holistic future state that is continually evaluated, as opposed to many of the existing frameworks. The proposed Mobile Holistic Enterprise Architecture Framework - ‘MHETF’ - is based on the realisation of the capabilities of smartphones that are aimed at individual average consumers (the backbone of the current mobile trend). The capabilities are categorised and translated into four sets of services categories for business use. They are linked to another two components of the framework which are: (i) the categorisation of goals and objectives that are incorporated into the Balanced Scorecard for evaluation at a later stage in planning, and continually referred to during transitions and (ii) the categorisation of the implementation forms (categorisation of end solutions’ functionalities). The framework is supported by EA inter-operability and maturity models to ensure continuity and alignment with the existing initiatives, the enterprise’s strategic objectives, and the change required in the scope of transformation. An evaluation for the available enterprise architecture frameworks was carried out and resulted in the selection of The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF). The decision was also commended by the participants in the case study evaluation due to their familiarity with this framework, which is being adopted as the Saudi E Government Standard in contrast to the other major frameworks of Zachman and Federal Enterprise Architecture (FEA). MHETF has been applied to three case studies in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia; two applications for a leading national outsourcing company, and the third for the outpatient clinics in a large hospital in the capital city of Riyadh. The results have shown major improvements in the four goal areas of mobile transformation; productivity, processes, satisfaction improvement and facilitating new opportunities. Eventually, the final evolution has shown that the participants are satisfied with the framework overall, and indicates that the framework changed their perspective of the power of mobile applications significantly, is relatively easy to understand, and that they are planning to adopt it for future mobile initiatives
