Metamodel Instance Generation: A systematic literature review
Modelling and thus metamodelling have become increasingly important in
Software Engineering through the use of Model Driven Engineering. In this paper
we present a systematic literature review of instance generation techniques for
metamodels, i.e. the process of automatically generating models from a given
metamodel. We start by presenting a set of research questions that our review
is intended to answer. We then identify the main topics that are related to
metamodel instance generation techniques, and use these to initiate our
literature search. This search resulted in the identification of 34 key papers
in the area, and each of these is reviewed here and discussed in detail. The
outcome is that we are able to identify a knowledge gap in this field, and we
offer suggestions as to some potential directions for future research.Comment: 25 page
Semantics-based Automated Web Testing
We present TAO, a software testing tool performing automated test and oracle
generation based on a semantic approach. TAO entangles grammar-based test
generation with automated semantics evaluation using a denotational semantics
framework. We show how TAO can be incorporated with the Selenium automation
tool for automated web testing, and how TAO can be further extended to support
automated delta debugging, where a failing web test script can be
systematically reduced based on grammar-directed strategies. A real-life
parking website is adopted throughout the paper to demonstrate the effectivity
of our semantics-based web testing approach.Comment: In Proceedings WWV 2015, arXiv:1508.0338
Automatically Leveraging MapReduce Frameworks for Data-Intensive Applications
MapReduce is a popular programming paradigm for developing large-scale,
data-intensive computation. Many frameworks that implement this paradigm have
recently been developed. To leverage these frameworks, however, developers must
become familiar with their APIs and rewrite existing code. Casper is a new tool
that automatically translates sequential Java programs into the MapReduce
paradigm. Casper identifies potential code fragments to rewrite and translates
them in two steps: (1) Casper uses program synthesis to search for a program
summary (i.e., a functional specification) of each code fragment. The summary
is expressed using a high-level intermediate language resembling the MapReduce
paradigm and verified to be semantically equivalent to the original using a
theorem prover. (2) Casper generates executable code from the summary, using
either the Hadoop, Spark, or Flink API. We evaluated Casper by automatically
converting real-world, sequential Java benchmarks to MapReduce. The resulting
benchmarks perform up to 48.2x faster compared to the original.Comment: 12 pages, additional 4 pages of references and appendi
