    Improvement of the system engineering and use of an architecture description language

    International audienceThe embedded real-time systems are more and more complex, and the safety or reliability requirements are stronger and stronger. In this context, many projects are led to improve the development processes. They show that there is a need for a means to more formally describe the developed systems and share information during the whole development cycle. The use of an architecture description language (ADL) is a good solution. It enables easy communications between different teams, tools, methods. AADL (Avionics Architecture Description Language) is an ADL dedicated to the description of avionics, and more generally all the embedded real-time systems. It is based on MetaH, developed since 1991 in the United-States, and its international standardisation is in progress under the authority of the SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers). AADL has been evaluated in the space domain; it appears that it is an interesting ADL to support the future development processes, because of its strong semantics and its flexibility. With the use of more formal approaches, the objective of the future development processes may be the proof-based system engineering. This provides many advantages: no break from the capture of the need to the validation of the system, early detection of the problems, proofs of the correctness, reduction of the test effort, possible automatic generation... The automotive domain has also the same objective as the aerospace industry, as illustrated by the EEA project, and its AIL-transport architecture description language. It should be profitable to compare the practices of these different domains which could mutually fertilize themselves

    The future of technology enhanced active learning – a roadmap

    The notion of active learning refers to the active involvement of learner in the learning process, capturing ideas of learning-by-doing and the fact that active participation and knowledge construction leads to deeper and more sustained learning. Interactivity, in particular learnercontent interaction, is a central aspect of technology-enhanced active learning. In this roadmap, the pedagogical background is discussed, the essential dimensions of technology-enhanced active learning systems are outlined and the factors that are expected to influence these systems currently and in the future are identified. A central aim is to address this promising field from a best practices perspective, clarifying central issues and formulating an agenda for future developments in the form of a roadmap

    “What? That’s for Old People, that.” Home Adaptations, Ageing and Stigmatisation: A Qualitative Inquiry

    Older people, even those living with long-term conditions or poor mobility, can be supported to live well at home, through adapting their home to meet changing need. Installing home adaptations, from grab rails to walk in shower rooms, is cost effective, may prevent falls, reduce social isolation and improve self confidence. Despite austerity cuts to public spending, the UK government increased home adaptations’ funding. However, not much is known about older people’s experiences and understanding of acquiring and living with home adaptations and uptake of home adaptations could be improved. Using wearable camera and face to face interview data, this qualitative study explored a diverse group of older people’s retrospective experiences (n = 30). Focus group discussions were also carried out with a wide range of professionals involved in the provision of home adaptations (n = 39). Findings suggest people may delay having adaptations, because of perceived stigmatising associations with decline and vulnerability. As delaying the installation of home adaptations until crisis point is known to reduce their effectiveness, such associations need to be challenged

    Archetype Modeling Methodology

    [EN] Clinical Information Models (CIMs) expressed as archetypes play an essential role in the design and development of current Electronic Health Record (EHR) information structures. Although there exist many experiences about using archetypes in the literature, a comprehensive and formal methodology for archetype modeling does not exist. Having a modeling methodology is essential to develop quality archetypes, in order to guide the development of EHR systems and to allow the semantic interoperability of health data. In this work, an archetype modeling methodology is proposed. This paper describes its phases, the inputs and outputs of each phase, and the involved participants and tools. It also includes the description of the possible strategies to organize the modeling process. The proposed methodology is inspired by existing best practices of CIMs, software and ontology development. The methodology has been applied and evaluated in regional and national EHR projects. The application of the methodology provided useful feedback and improvements, and confirmed its advantages. The conclusion of this work is that having a formal methodology for archetype development facilitates the definition and adoption of interoperable archetypes, improves their quality, and facilitates their reuse among different information systems and EHR projects.
