    Finite-time adaptive synchronization of fractional-order delayed quaternion-valued fuzzy neural networks

    Based on direct quaternion method, this paper explores the finite-time adaptive synchronization (FAS) of fractional-order delayed quaternion-valued fuzzy neural networks (FODQVFNNs). Firstly, a useful fractional differential inequality is created, which offers an effective way to investigate FAS. Then two novel quaternion-valued adaptive control strategies are designed. By means of our newly proposed inequality, the basic knowledge about fractional calculus, reduction to absurdity as well as several inequality techniques of quaternion and fuzzy logic, several sufficient FAS criteria are derived for FODQVFNNs. Moreover, the settling time of FAS is estimated, which is in connection with the order and initial values of considered systems as well as the controller parameters. Ultimately, the validity of obtained FAS criteria is corroborated by numerical simulations

    Synchronization analysis of coupled fractional-order neural networks with time-varying delays

    In this paper, the complete synchronization and Mittag-Leffler synchronization problems of a kind of coupled fractional-order neural networks with time-varying delays are introduced and studied. First, the sufficient conditions for a controlled system to reach complete synchronization are established by using the Kronecker product technique and Lyapunov direct method under pinning control. Here the pinning controller only needs to control part of the nodes, which can save more resources. To make the system achieve complete synchronization, only the error system is stable. Next, a new adaptive feedback controller is designed, which combines the Razumikhin-type method and Mittag-Leffler stability theory to make the controlled system realize Mittag-Leffler synchronization. The controller has time delays, and the calculation can be simplified by constructing an appropriate auxiliary function. Finally, two numerical examples are given. The simulation process shows that the conditions of the main theorems are not difficult to obtain, and the simulation results confirm the feasibility of the theorems

    Modulations of local synchrony over time lead to resting-state functional connectivity in a parsimonious large-scale brain model

    Biophysical models of large-scale brain activity are a fundamental tool for understanding the mechanisms underlying the patterns observed with neuroimaging. These models combine a macroscopic description of the within- and between-ensemble dynamics of neurons within a single architecture. A challenge for these models is accounting for modulations of within-ensemble synchrony over time. Such modulations in local synchrony are fundamental for modeling behavioral tasks and resting-state activity. Another challenge comes from the difficulty in parametrizing large scale brain models which hinders researching principles related with between-ensembles differences. Here we derive a parsimonious large scale brain model that can describe fluctuations of local synchrony. Crucially, we do not reduce within-ensemble dynamics to macroscopic variables first, instead we consider within and between-ensemble interactions similarly while preserving their physiological differences. The dynamics of within-ensemble synchrony can be tuned with a parameter which manipulates local connectivity strength. We simulated resting-state static and time-resolved functional connectivity of alpha band envelopes in models with identical and dissimilar local connectivities. We show that functional connectivity emerges when there are high fluctuations of local and global synchrony simultaneously (i.e. metastable dynamics). We also show that for most ensembles, leaning towards local asynchrony or synchrony correlates with the functional connectivity with other ensembles, with the exception of some regions belonging to the default-mode network

    summary:The primary objective of the present paper is to develop an approach for analyzing pinning synchronization stability in a complex delayed dynamical network with directed coupling. Some simple yet generic criteria for pinning such coupled network are derived analytically. Compared with some existing works, the primary contribution is that the synchronization manifold could be chosen as a weighted average of all the nodes states in the network for the sake of practical control tactics, which displays the different influences and contributions of the various nodes in synchronization seeking processes of the dynamical network. Furthermore, it is shown that in order to drive a complex network to a desired synchronization state, the coupling strength should vary according to the controller. In addition, the theoretical results about the time-invariant network is extended to the time-varying network, and the result on synchronization problem can also be extended to the consensus problem of networked multi-agent systems. Subsequently, the theoretic results are illustrated by a typical scale-free (SF) neuronal network. Numerical simulations with three kinds of the homogenous solutions, including an equilibrium point, a periodic orbit, and a chaotic attractor, are finally given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control methodology

    Fixed-time control of delayed neural networks with impulsive perturbations

    This paper is concerned with the fixed-time stability of delayed neural networks with impulsive perturbations. By means of inequality analysis technique and Lyapunov function method, some novel fixed-time stability criteria for the addressed neural networks are derived in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). The settling time can be estimated without depending on any initial conditions but only on the designed controllers. In addition, two different controllers are designed for the impulsive delayed neural networks. Moreover, each controller involves three parts, in which each part has different role in the stabilization of the addressed neural networks. Finally, two numerical examples are provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the theoretical analysis

    Synchronization between Different Networks with Time-Varying Delay and Its Application in Bilayer Coupled Public Traffic Network

    In order to study the dynamic characteristics of urban public traffic network, this paper establishes the conventional bus traffic network and the urban rail traffic network based on the space R modeling method. Then regarding these two networks as the subnetwork, the paper presents a new bilayer coupled public traffic network through the transfer relationship between subway and bus, and this model well reflects the connection between the passengers and bus operating vehicles. Based on the synchronization theory of coupling network with time-varying delay and taking “Lorenz system” as the network node, the paper studies the synchronization of bilayer coupled public traffic network. Finally, numerical results are given to show the impact of public traffic dispatching, delayed departure, the number of public bus stops between bus lines, and the number of transfer stations between two traffic modes on the bilayer coupled public traffic network balance through Matlab simulation

    Synchronization of General Complex Networks with Hybrid Couplings and Unknown Perturbations

    The issue of synchronization for a class of hybrid coupled complex networks with mixed delays (discrete delays and distributed delays) and unknown nonstochastic external perturbations is studied. The perturbations do not disappear even after all the dynamical nodes have reached synchronization. To overcome the bad effects of such perturbations, a simple but all-powerful robust adaptive controller is designed to synchronize the complex networks even without knowing a priori the functions and bounds of the perturbations. Based on Lyapunov stability theory, integral inequality Barbalat lemma, and Schur Complement lemma, rigorous proofs are given for synchronization of the complex networks. Numerical simulations verify the effectiveness of the new robust adaptive controller

    Synchronization and prediction of chaotic dynamics on networks of optoelectronic oscillators

    The subject of this thesis is the exploration of chaotic synchronization for novel applications including time-series prediction and sensing. We begin by characterizing the nonlinear dynamics of an optoelectronic time-delayed feedback loop. We show that synchronization of an accurate numerical model to experimental measurements provides a way to assimilate data and forecast the future of deterministic chaotic behavior. Next, we implement an adaptive control method that maintains isochronal synchrony for a network of coupled feedback loops when the interaction strengths are unknown and time-varying. Control signals are used as real-time estimates of the variations present within the coupling paths. We analyze the stability of synchronous solutions for arbitrary coupling topologies via a modified master stability function that incorporates the adaptation response dynamics. Finally, we show that the master stability function, which is derived from a set of linearized equations, can also be experimentally measured using a two-node network, and it can be applied to predict the convergence behavior of large networks
