    Consensus under Misaligned Orientations

    This paper presents a consensus algorithm under misaligned orientations, which is defined as (i) misalignment to global coordinate frame of local coordinate frames, (ii) biases in control direction or sensing direction, or (iii) misaligned virtual global coordinate frames. After providing a mathematical formulation, we provide some sufficient conditions for consensus or for divergence. Besides the stability analysis, we also conduct some analysis for convergence characteristics in terms of locations of eigenvalues. Through a number of numerical simulations, we would attempt to understand the behaviors of misaligned consensus dynamics.Comment: 23 pages, 9 figure

    A hybrid multiagent approach for global trajectory optimization

    In this paper we consider a global optimization method for space trajectory design problems. The method, which actually aims at finding not only the global minimizer but a whole set of low-lying local minimizers(corresponding to a set of different design options), is based on a domain decomposition technique where each subdomain is evaluated through a procedure based on the evolution of a population of agents. The method is applied to two space trajectory design problems and compared with existing deterministic and stochastic global optimization methods

    A multi-agent based evolutionary algorithm in non-stationary environments

    This article is posted here with permission of IEEE - Copyright @ 2008 IEEEIn this paper, a multi-agent based evolutionary algorithm (MAEA) is introduced to solve dynamic optimization problems. The agents simulate living organism features and co-evolve to find optimum. All agents live in a lattice like environment, where each agent is fixed on a lattice point. In order to increase the energy, agents can compete with their neighbors and can also acquire knowledge based on statistic information. In order to maintain the diversity of the population, the random immigrants and adaptive primal dual mapping schemes are used.     Hybrid behavioural-based multi-objective space trajectory optimization

    In this chapter we present a hybridization of a stochastic based search approach for multi-objective optimization with a deterministic domain decomposition of the solution space. Prior to the presentation of the algorithm we introduce a general formulation of the optimization problem that is suitable to describe both single and multi-objective problems. The stochastic approach, based on behaviorism, combinedwith the decomposition of the solutions pace was tested on a set of standard multi-objective optimization problems and on a simple but representative case of space trajectory design

    Microscopic activity patterns in the Naming Game

    The models of statistical physics used to study collective phenomena in some interdisciplinary contexts, such as social dynamics and opinion spreading, do not consider the effects of the memory on individual decision processes. On the contrary, in the Naming Game, a recently proposed model of Language formation, each agent chooses a particular state, or opinion, by means of a memory-based negotiation process, during which a variable number of states is collected and kept in memory. In this perspective, the statistical features of the number of states collected by the agents becomes a relevant quantity to understand the dynamics of the model, and the influence of topological properties on memory-based models. By means of a master equation approach, we analyze the internal agent dynamics of Naming Game in populations embedded on networks, finding that it strongly depends on very general topological properties of the system (e.g. average and fluctuations of the degree). However, the influence of topological properties on the microscopic individual dynamics is a general phenomenon that should characterize all those social interactions that can be modeled by memory-based negotiation processes.Comment: submitted to J.     Modulating interaction times in an artificial society of robots

    In a collaborative society, sharing information is advantageous for each individual as well as for the whole community. Maximizing the number of agent-to-agent interactions per time becomes an appealing behavior due to fast information spreading that maximizes the overall amount of shared information. However, if malicious agents are part of society, then the risk of interacting with one of them increases with an increasing number of interactions. In this paper, we investigate the roles of interaction rates and times (aka edge life) in artificial societies of simulated robot swarms. We adapt their social networks to form proper trust sub-networks and to contain attackers. Instead of sophisticated algorithms to build and administrate trust networks, we focus on simple control algorithms that locally adapt interaction times by changing only the robots' motion patterns. We successfully validate these algorithms in collective decision-making showing improved time to convergence and energy-efficient motion patterns, besides impeding the spread of undesired opinions
