Decision Making in the Medical Domain: Comparing the Effectiveness of GP-Generated Fuzzy Intelligent Structures
ABSTRACT: In this work, we examine the effectiveness of two intelligent models in medical domains. Namely, we apply grammar-guided genetic programming to produce fuzzy intelligent structures, such as fuzzy rule-based systems and fuzzy Petri nets, in medical data mining tasks. First, we use two context-free grammars to describe fuzzy rule-based systems and fuzzy Petri nets with genetic programming. Then, we apply cellular encoding in order to express the fuzzy Petri nets with arbitrary size and topology. The models are examined thoroughly in four real-world medical data sets. Results are presented in detail and the competitive advantages and drawbacks of the selected methodologies are discussed, in respect to the nature of each application domain. Conclusions are drawn on the effectiveness and efficiency of the presented approach
Stability of networks of delay-coupled delay oscillators
Dynamical networks with time delays can pose a considerable challenge for
mathematical analysis. Here, we extend the approach of generalized modeling to
investigate the stability of large networks of delay-coupled delay oscillators.
When the local dynamical stability of the network is plotted as a function of
the two delays then a pattern of tongues is revealed. Exploiting a link between
structure and dynamics, we identify conditions under which perturbations of the
topology have a strong impact on the stability. If these critical regions are
avoided the local stability of large random networks can be well approximated
analytically
Matrices of forests, analysis of networks, and ranking problems
The matrices of spanning rooted forests are studied as a tool for analysing
the structure of networks and measuring their properties. The problems of
revealing the basic bicomponents, measuring vertex proximity, and ranking from
preference relations / sports competitions are considered. It is shown that the
vertex accessibility measure based on spanning forests has a number of
desirable properties. An interpretation for the stochastic matrix of
