BLADE: Filter Learning for General Purpose Computational Photography
The Rapid and Accurate Image Super Resolution (RAISR) method of Romano,
Isidoro, and Milanfar is a computationally efficient image upscaling method
using a trained set of filters. We describe a generalization of RAISR, which we
name Best Linear Adaptive Enhancement (BLADE). This approach is a trainable
edge-adaptive filtering framework that is general, simple, computationally
efficient, and useful for a wide range of problems in computational
photography. We show applications to operations which may appear in a camera
pipeline including denoising, demosaicing, and stylization
Differential fast fixed-point algorithms for underdetermined instantaneous and convolutive partial blind source separation
This paper concerns underdetermined linear instantaneous and convolutive
blind source separation (BSS), i.e., the case when the number of observed mixed
signals is lower than the number of sources. We propose partial BSS methods,
which separate supposedly nonstationary sources of interest (while keeping
residual components for the other, supposedly stationary, "noise" sources).
These methods are based on the general differential BSS concept that we
introduced before. In the instantaneous case, the approach proposed in this
paper consists of a differential extension of the FastICA method (which does
not apply to underdetermined mixtures). In the convolutive case, we extend our
recent time-domain fast fixed-point C-FICA algorithm to underdetermined
mixtures. Both proposed approaches thus keep the attractive features of the
FastICA and C-FICA methods. Our approaches are based on differential sphering
processes, followed by the optimization of the differential nonnormalized
kurtosis that we introduce in this paper. Experimental tests show that these
differential algorithms are much more robust to noise sources than the standard
FastICA and C-FICA algorithms.Comment: this paper describes our differential FastICA-like algorithms for
linear instantaneous and convolutive underdetermined mixture
Multi-channel active noise cancellation using the DSP56001 (digital signal processor)
The authors report on the performance of a portable active noise cancellation (ANC) system based around a PC hosted 20-MHz Motorola DSP56001 processor with a four-channel analog input/output (I/O) board connected to the real world via standard consumer audio components. The system will perform active noise cancellation over the frequency range of 65-500 Hz. Quantitative results are presented for the cancellation of single tone noise and of narrowband noise, and a measure of the ANC power spectrum is calculated for various parameters of the filtered-X LMS algorithm in different acoustic environments. Qualitative results based on human hearing perception of the attenuation of various narrowband and real world noise sources are also discussed
Performance characteristics of an adaptive controller based on least-mean-square filters
A closed loop, adaptive control scheme that uses a least mean square filter as the controller model is presented, along with simulation results that demonstrate the excellent robustness of this scheme. It is shown that the scheme adapts very well to unknown plants, even those that are marginally stable, responds appropriately to changes in plant parameters, and is not unduly affected by additive noise. A heuristic argument for the conditions necessary for convergence is presented. Potential applications and extensions of the scheme are also discussed
