    Optimum Power Allocation for Average Power Constrained Jammers in the Presense of Non-Gaussian Noise

    Cataloged from PDF version of article.We study the problem of determining the optimum power allocation policy for an average power constrained jammer operating over an arbitrary additive noise channel, where the aim is to minimize the detection probability of an instantaneously and fully adaptive receiver employing the Neyman-Pearson (NP) criterion. We show that the optimum jamming performance can be achieved via power randomization between at most two different power levels. We also provide sufficient conditions for the improvability and nonimprovability of the jamming performance via power randomization in comparison to a fixed power jamming scheme. Numerical examples are presented to illustrate theoretical results

    Game-theoretic power allocation and the Nash equilibrium analysis for a multistatic MIMO radar network

    CCBY We investigate a game-theoretic power allocation scheme and perform a Nash equilibrium analysis for a multistatic multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar network. We consider a network of radars, organized into multiple clusters, whose primary objective is to minimize their transmission power, while satisfying a certain detection criterion. Since there is no communication between the distributed clusters, we incorporate convex optimization methods and noncooperative game-theoretic techniques based on the estimate of the signal to interference plus noise ratio (SINR) to tackle the power adaptation problem. Therefore, each cluster egotistically determines its optimal power allocation in a distributed scheme. Furthermore, we prove that the best response function of each cluster regarding this generalized Nash game (GNG) belongs to the framework of standard functions. The standard function property together with the proof of the existence of solution for the game guarantees the uniqueness of the Nash equilibrium. The mathematical analysis based on Karush-Kuhn-Tucker conditions reveal some interesting results in terms of number of active radars and the number of radars that over satisfy the desired SINRs. Finally, the simulation results confirm the convergence of the algorithm to the unique solution and demonstrate the distributed nature of the system

    Satellite-Based Communications Security: A Survey of Threats, Solutions, and Research Challenges

    Satellite-based Communication systems are gaining renewed momentum in Industry and Academia, thanks to innovative services introduced by leading tech companies and the promising impact they can deliver towards the global connectivity objective tackled by early 6G initiatives. On the one hand, the emergence of new manufacturing processes and radio technologies promises to reduce service costs while guaranteeing outstanding communication latency, available bandwidth, flexibility, and coverage range. On the other hand, cybersecurity techniques and solutions applied in SATCOM links should be updated to reflect the substantial advancements in attacker capabilities characterizing the last two decades. However, business urgency and opportunities are leading operators towards challenging system trade-offs, resulting in an increased attack surface and a general relaxation of the available security services. In this paper, we tackle the cited problems and present a comprehensive survey on the link-layer security threats, solutions, and challenges faced when deploying and operating SATCOM systems.Specifically, we classify the literature on security for SATCOM systems into two main branches, i.e., physical-layer security and cryptography schemes.Then, we further identify specific research domains for each of the identified branches, focusing on dedicated security issues, including, e.g., physical-layer confidentiality, anti-jamming schemes, anti-spoofing strategies, and quantum-based key distribution schemes. For each of the above domains, we highlight the most essential techniques, peculiarities, advantages, disadvantages, lessons learned, and future directions.Finally, we also identify emerging research topics whose additional investigation by Academia and Industry could further attract researchers and investors, ultimately unleashing the full potential behind ubiquitous satellite communications.Comment: 72 page
