    Fuzzy based load and energy aware multipath routing for mobile ad hoc networks

    Routing is a challenging task in Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANET) due to their dynamic topology and lack of central administration. As a consequence of un-predictable topology changes of such networks, routing protocols employed need to accurately capture the delay, load, available bandwidth and residual node energy at various locations of the network for effective energy and load balancing. This paper presents a fuzzy logic based scheme that ensures delay, load and energy aware routing to avoid congestion and minimise end-to-end delay in MANETs. In the proposed approach, forwarding delay, average load, available bandwidth and residual battery energy at a mobile node are given as inputs to a fuzzy inference engine to determine the traffic distribution possibility from that node based on the given fuzzy rules. Based on the output from the fuzzy system, traffic is distributed over fail-safe multiple routes to reduce the load at a congested node. Through simulation results, we show that our approach reduces end-to-end delay, packet drop and average energy consumption and increases packet delivery ratio for constant bit rate (CBR) traffic when compared with the popular Ad hoc On-demand Multipath Distance Vector (AOMDV) routing protocol

    As mobile computing gains popularity, the need for Ad-hoc network will continue to grow. The mobile Ad-hoc network is an autonomous system of mobile wireless nodes connected dynamically without any preexisting infrastructure. Here, the nodes are mobile, hence the network topology changes rapidly and unpredictable over time.Here we proposed the mesh based On Demand multicast Routing protocol (OMDRP), in OMDRP the mesh created by using route request and route reply packets. After the mesh we create the cluster, Clustering is a method which aggregates nodes into groups. These groups are contained within the network and they are known as clusters. In mesh we find the multipaths from source to destinations. In that multipaths again we choose one QoS path depending on minimum delay required to reach the destination. In this paper we use the fuzzy scheduling algorithm to schedule the data packets based on their respective priority index,which will improve the network performance. The presented fuzzy scheduler for mobile Ad-hoc networks,determine the priority of the packets. The proposed fuzzy logic scheduling method is simulated by using Cprogramming language. The propsed scheme is better the without fuzzy priority scheduling system

    Fuzzy Controller Based QoS Routing Algorithm with a Multiclass Scheme for MANET

    A mobile ad hoc network (MANET) consists of a set of mobile hosts that can communicate with each other without the assistance of base stations. Due to the dynamic nature of the network topology and restricted resources, quality of service (QoS) and multicast routing in MANET are challenging tasks which attract the interests of many people. In this paper, we present a fuzzy controller based QoS routing algorithm with a multiclass scheme (FQRA) in mobile ad hoc networks. The performance of this scheduler is studied using NS2 (Network Simulator version 2) and evaluated in terms of quantitative measures such as packet delivery ratio, path success ratio and average end-to-end delay. Simulations show that the approach is efficient, promising and applicable in ad hoc networks

    Clustering and Hybrid Routing in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks

    This dissertation focuses on clustering and hybrid routing in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANET). Specifically, we study two different network-layer virtual infrastructures proposed for MANET: the explicit cluster infrastructure and the implicit zone infrastructure. In the first part of the dissertation, we propose a novel clustering scheme based on a number of properties of diameter-2 graphs to provide a general-purpose virtual infrastructure for MANET. Compared to virtual infrastructures with central nodes, our virtual infrastructure is more symmetric and stable, but still light-weight. In our clustering scheme, cluster initialization naturally blends into cluster maintenance, showing the unity between these two operations. We call our algorithm tree-based since cluster merge and split operations are performed based on a spanning tree maintained at some specific nodes. Extensive simulation results have shown the effectiveness of our clustering scheme when compared to other schemes proposed in the literature. In the second part of the dissertation, we propose TZRP (Two-Zone Routing Protocol) as a hybrid routing framework that can balance the tradeoffs between pure proactive, fuzzy proactive, and reactive routing approaches more effectively in a wide range of network conditions. In TZRP, each node maintains two zones: a Crisp Zone for proactive routing and efficient bordercasting, and a Fuzzy Zone for heuristic routing using imprecise locality information. The perimeter of the Crisp Zone is the boundary between pure proactive routing and fuzzy proactive routing, and the perimeter of the Fuzzy Zone is the boundary between proactive routing and reactive routing. By adjusting the sizes of these two zones, a reduced total routing control overhead can be achieved

    Design & Evaluation of Path-based Reputation System for MANET Routing

    Most of the existing reputation systems in mobile ad hoc networks (MANET) consider only node reputations when selecting routes. Reputation and trust are therefore generally ensured within a one-hop distance when routing decisions are made, which often fail to provide the most reliable, trusted route. In this report, we first summarize the background studies on the security of MANET. Then, we propose a system that is based on path reputation, which is computed from reputation and trust values of each and every node in the route. The use of path reputation greatly enhances the reliability of resulting routes. The detailed system architecture and components design of the proposed mechanism are carefully described on top of the AODV (Ad-hoc On-demand Distance Vector) routing protocol. We also evaluate the performance of the proposed system by simulating it on top of AODV. Simulation experiments show that the proposed scheme greatly improves network throughput in the midst of misbehavior nodes while requires very limited message overhead. To our knowledge, this is the first path-based reputation system proposal that may be implemented on top of a non-source based routing scheme such as AODV

    Real valued negative selection for anomaly detection in wireless ad hoc networks

    Wireless ad hoc network is one of the network technologies that have gained lots of attention from computer scientists for the future telecommunication applications. However it has inherits the major vulnerabilities from its ancestor (i.e., the fixed wired networks) but cannot inherit all the conventional intrusion detection capabilities due to its features and characteristics. Wireless ad hoc network has the potential to become the de facto standard for future wireless networking because of its open medium and dynamic features. Non-infrastructure network such as wireless ad hoc networks are expected to become an important part of 4G architecture in the future. In this paper, we study the use of an Artificial Immune System (AIS) as anomaly detector in a wireless ad hoc network. The main goal of our research is to build a system that can learn and detect new and unknown attacks. To achieve our goal, we studied how the real-valued negative selection algorithm can be applied in wireless ad hoc network network and finally we proposed the enhancements to real-valued negative selection algorithm for anomaly detection in wireless ad hoc network

    Computational Intelligence Inspired Data Delivery for Vehicle-to-Roadside Communications

    We propose a vehicle-to-roadside communication protocol based on distributed clustering where a coalitional game approach is used to stimulate the vehicles to join a cluster, and a fuzzy logic algorithm is employed to generate stable clusters by considering multiple metrics of vehicle velocity, moving pattern, and signal qualities between vehicles. A reinforcement learning algorithm with game theory based reward allocation is employed to guide each vehicle to select the route that can maximize the whole network performance. The protocol is integrated with a multi-hop data delivery virtualization scheme that works on the top of the transport layer and provides high performance for multi-hop end-to-end data transmissions. We conduct realistic computer simulations to show the performance advantage of the protocol over other approaches
