    Role of Optimal Production Plan at the Focal Firm in Optimization of the Supply Chain

    Supply chain management and optimization is a critical aspect of modern enterprises and an expanding area of research. Modeling and optimization are the traditional tools of supply chain management. The techniques have been used by many companies for planning, manufacturing, and other decision areas in supply chains. Current study is motivated by the fact that optimization studies in supply chain management have mostly considered network optimization. Supply chain management however, requires alignment between the supply chain partners at the tactical level. As a first step towards achieving this goal, current study presents a model that incorporates the activity level planning at the focal firm in a supply chain. This paper presents a new mixed integer programming model that incorporates optimization of production planning at the focal firm while optimizing the strategic alignment of the supply chain entities. The model represents a four step, multi-echelon supply chain including supplier, warehouse, manufacturer, and retailer. The manufacturer in this network represents the focal firm. This model is an attempt to integrate the production planning decisions in the network optimization decisions

    Dynamic small-series fashion order allocation and supplier selection: a ga-topsis-based model

    The fashion industry is currently confronted with significant economic and environmental challenges, necessitating the exploration of novel business models. Among the promising approaches is small series production on demand, though this poses considerable complexities in the highly competitive sector. Traditional supplier selection and production planning processes, known for their lengthy and intricate nature, must be replaced with more dynamic and effective decision-making procedures. To tackle this problem, GA-TOPSIS hybrid model is proposed as the methodology. The model integrates Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) evaluation into the fitness function of Genetic Algorithm (GA) to comprehensively consider both qualitative and quantitative criteria for supplier selection. Simultaneously, GA efficiently optimizes the order sequence for production planning. The model's efficacy is demonstrated through implementation on real orders, showcasing its ability to handle diverse evaluation criteria and support supplier selection in different scenarios. Moreover, the proposed model is employed to compute the Pareto front, which provides optimal sets of solutions for the given objective criteria. This allows for an effective demand-driven strategy, particularly relevant for fashion retailers to select supplier and order planning optimization decisions in dynamic and multi-criteria context. Overall, GA-TOPSIS hybrid model offers an innovative and efficient decision support system for fashion retailers to adapt to changing demands and achieve effective supplier selection and production planning optimization. The model's incorporation of both qualitative and quantitative criteria in a dynamic environment contributes to its originality and potential for addressing the complexities of the fashion industry's supply chain challenge

    Sole purpose of supplier selection is not limited to get supply at low cost and at right time. Supplier selection is a strategic decision to fulfil company’s goal for long period of time at low risk. To accomplish this objective companies are moving from reactive buying to proactive buying to give more priority to co-creation of wealth with supplier/s. Considering this issue an attempt has been made in this paper to give systematic review of supplier selection and evaluation process from 2005 to 2012 to answer three main questions: (i) Which method is more appropriate for supplier selection? (ii) Which evaluating criteria were most cited? (iii) Is present trend of research is adequate enough to support proactive buying? In this regard, 78 papers are classified into 10 categories to identify factors affecting supplier selection and evaluation process. Statistical analysis has been conducted with software “R” to have better insight on the trend of research. Recommendations and future work is also included to verify inadequacy of existing methods, if any, to support proactive buying process

    Analysis of Sustainable Procurement in SMEs in Developing Countries

    The purpose of the paper is to integrate supply base consolidation, rationalization, and buyer’s perspective about its suppliers to reveal more insight to implement sustainable procurement in small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in developing countries like India. In this paper an attempt has been made to integrate Constrained Optimization of Frobenius Norm by Genetic Algorithm (COFGA) with traditional spend, and value risk analysis to consolidate and rationalize supply base w.r.t fifteen triple bottom line indicators (TBL). This paper shows that spend analysis is justified in crisp domain and becomes myopic in limited data environment. Spend analysis becomes more ineffective to deal imprecise and vague qualitative data. Integrated approach of multiple criteria decision analysis,spend analysis, and value risk analysis, thus, an alternative approach to give better insight to sustainable procurement in fuzzy environment. Finally, a case study is discussed to use proposed method

    The Supplier Selection Problem (SSP) consists of analyzing and measuring the performance of a set of suppliers in order to rank and select them for improving the competitiveness of the whole supply system. As many conflicting factors should be taken into account in the analysis, the problem can be tackled using multi-criteria models and methods. In this work a careful scrutiny of the papers appeared on international scientific journals in the recent years about SSP is provided. The survey highlights that the most used methodology is the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP). Thus, an overview view of the current proposals based on AHP and its variants to cope with the SSP is provided. Crucial aspects which arise when the methodology is actually applied in real cases are identified and discussed

    Analyzing the Critical Supply Chain for Unmanned Aircraft Systems

    Unmanned aerial systems (UAS) play a vital role in present day operations due their asset capability and ability to reduce risk to pilots’ lives. A complex supply chain network capable of producing and integrating all raw materials, components, sub- systems, and systems supports the successful acquisition of a UAS. Such a complex network is supported by vital supply chain decisions. Two important decisions regarding supply chain design include supplier selection and optimal flow of material and product Whether a decision maker wishes to design or interdict a supply chain, the methodology developed in this thesis provides a suite of tailorable models to facilitate these vital decisions. Linear programming and generalized network flow models that incorporate goal programming are developed to integrate the decision maker’s priorities. In addition a targeting matrix employing a House of Quality approach is developed to provide an interdiction planning team with a decision support tool that facilitates interdiction strategy planning. Overall, the different models developed in the study provide modeling flexibility. The incorporation of goal programming into supply chain network design an interdiction allows decision makers to effectively frame their supply chain decisions
