    Tuning of Nonlinear PID Controller for TRMS Using Evolutionary Computation Methods

    In this paper, the Twin rotor MIMO system (TRMS) is tuned by Nonlinear PID controller using Evolutionary Computation methods. The proposed Nonlinear PID controller, used to tune TRMS, improves the system performance with additional degrees of freedom. Evolutionary Computation methods such as Differential Search Algorithm (DSA), real coded Genetic Algorithm (RGA) with simulated binary crossover (SBX) and Particle Swarm optimization (PSO) and Gravitational Search Algorithm (GSA) are used to determine the optimal parameters of the proposed controller by minimizing Integral Square Error (ISE) for rotor response of TRMS. SIMULINK MATLAB software is used for simulating the system. The statistical performance of the controller is analysed among twenty independent trials by taking best, worst, mean and standard deviations of ISE. Simulation results reveal that TRMS system tuned by nonlinear PID controller using Particle Swarm optimization (PSO) is better than the other methods

    PSO BASED TAKAGI-SUGENO FUZZY PID CONTROLLER DESIGN FOR SPEED CONTROL OF PERMANENT MAGNET SYNCHRONOUS MOTOR

    A permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) is one kind of popular motor. They are utilized in industrial applications because their abilities included operation at a constant speed, no need for an excitation current, no rotor losses, and small size. In the following paper, a fuzzy evolutionary algorithm is combined with a proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller to control the speed of a PMSM. In this structure, to overcome the PMSM challenges, including nonlinear nature, cross-coupling, air gap flux, and cogging torque in operation, a Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy logic-PID (TSFL-PID) controller is designed. Additionally, the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm is developed to optimize the membership functions' parameters and rule bases of the fuzzy logic PID controller. For evaluating the proposed controller's performance, the genetic algorithm (GA), as another evolutionary algorithm, is incorporated into the fuzzy PID controller. The results of the speed control of PMSM are compared. The obtained results demonstrate that although both controllers have excellent performance; however, the PSO based TSFL-PID controller indicates more superiority

    An Optimized Hybrid Fuzzy-Fuzzy Controller for PWM-driven Variable Speed Drives

    This paper discusses the performance and the impact of disturbances onto a proposed hybrid fuzzy-fuzzy controller (HFFC) system to attain speed control of a variable speed induction motor (IM) drive. Notably, to design a scalar controller, the two features of field-oriented control (FOC), i.e., the frequency and current, are employed. Specifically, the features of fuzzy frequency and fuzzy current amplitude controls are exploited for the control of an induction motor in a closed-loop current amplitude input model; hence, with the combination of both controllers to form a hybrid controller. With respect to finding the rule base of a fuzzy controller, a genetic algorithm is employed to resolve the problem of an optimization that diminishes an objective function, i.e., the Integrated Absolute Error (IAE) criterion. Furthermore, the principle of HFFC, for the purpose of overcoming the shortcoming of the FOC technique is established during the acceleration-deceleration stages to regulate the speed of the rotor using the fuzzy frequency controller. On the other hand, during the steady-state stage, the fuzzy stator current magnitude controller is engaged. A simulation is conducted via MATLAB/Simulink to observe the performance of the controller. Thus, from a series of simulations and experimental tests, the controller shows to perform consistently well and possesses insensitive behavior towards the parameter deviations in the system, as well as robust to load and noise disturbances
