    Inpainting of long audio segments with similarity graphs

    We present a novel method for the compensation of long duration data loss in audio signals, in particular music. The concealment of such signal defects is based on a graph that encodes signal structure in terms of time-persistent spectral similarity. A suitable candidate segment for the substitution of the lost content is proposed by an intuitive optimization scheme and smoothly inserted into the gap, i.e. the lost or distorted signal region. Extensive listening tests show that the proposed algorithm provides highly promising results when applied to a variety of real-world music signals

    Signal Reconstruction via H-infinity Sampled-Data Control Theory: Beyond the Shannon Paradigm

    This paper presents a new method for signal reconstruction by leveraging sampled-data control theory. We formulate the signal reconstruction problem in terms of an analog performance optimization problem using a stable discrete-time filter. The proposed H-infinity performance criterion naturally takes intersample behavior into account, reflecting the energy distributions of the signal. We present methods for computing optimal solutions which are guaranteed to be stable and causal. Detailed comparisons to alternative methods are provided. We discuss some applications in sound and image reconstruction

    Detection and restoration of click degraded audio based on high-order sparse linear prediction

    Clicks are short-duration defects that affect most archived audio media. Linear prediction (LP) modeling for the representation and restoration of audio signals that have been corrupted by click degradation has been extensively studied. The use of high-order sparse linear prediction for the restoration of clickdegraded audio given the time location of samples affected by click degradation has been shown to lead to significant restoration improvement over conventional LP-based approaches. For the practical usage of such methods, the identification of the time location of samples affected by click degradation is critical. High-order sparse linear prediction has been shown to lead to better modeling of audio resulting in better restoration of click degraded archived audio. In this paper, the use of high-order sparse linear prediction for the detection and restoration of click degraded audio is proposed. Results in terms of click duration estimation, SNR improvement and perceptual audio quality show that the proposed approach based on high-order sparse linear prediction leads to better performance compared to state of the art LP-based approaches.&nbsp

    Sparsity and cosparsity for audio declipping: a flexible non-convex approach

    This work investigates the empirical performance of the sparse synthesis versus sparse analysis regularization for the ill-posed inverse problem of audio declipping. We develop a versatile non-convex heuristics which can be readily used with both data models. Based on this algorithm, we report that, in most cases, the two models perform almost similarly in terms of signal enhancement. However, the analysis version is shown to be amenable for real time audio processing, when certain analysis operators are considered. Both versions outperform state-of-the-art methods in the field, especially for the severely saturated signals
