The task of an intelligent control system design applying soft and quantum computational intelligence technologies discussed. An example of a control object as a mobile robot with redundant robotic manipulator and stereovision introduced. Design of robust knowledge bases is performed using a developed computational intelligence – quantum / soft computing toolkit (QC/SCOptKBTM). The knowledge base self-organization process of fuzzy homogeneous regulators through the application of end-to-end IT of quantum computing described. The coordination control between the mobile robot and redundant manipulator with stereovision based on soft computing described. The general design methodology of a generalizing control unit based on the physical laws of quantum computing (quantum information-thermodynamic trade-off of control quality distribution and knowledge base self-organization goal) is considered. The modernization of the pattern recognition system based on stereo vision technology presented. The effectiveness of the proposed methodology is demonstrated in comparison with the structures of control systems based on soft computing for unforeseen control situations with sensor system

Based on the multitude of industrial applications, benchmarks for model hierarchies will be created that will form a basis for the interdisciplinary research and for the training programme. These will be equipped with publically available data and will be used for training in modelling, model testing, reduced order modelling, error estimation, efficiency optimization in algorithmic approaches, and testing of the generated MSO/MOR software. The present document includes the description about the selection of (at least) eight benchmark cases of model hierarchies.EC/H2020/765374/EU/Reduced Order Modelling, Simulation and Optimization of Coupled Systems/ROMSO

    Data-driven shape analysis and processing

    Get PDF
Data-driven methods serve an increasingly important role in discovering geometric, structural, and semantic relationships between shapes. In contrast to traditional approaches that process shapes in isolation of each other, data-driven methods aggregate information from 3D model collections to improve the analysis, modeling and editing of shapes. Through reviewing the literature, we provide an overview of the main concepts and components of these methods, as well as discuss their application to classification, segmentation, matching, reconstruction, modeling and exploration, as well as scene analysis and synthesis. We conclude our report with ideas that can inspire future research in data-driven shape analysis and processing

Ph. D. Thesis. The measurement and quantification of defects is a challenge for Non-DestructiveTesting and Evaluation (NDT&E). Such challenges include the precise localisation and detection of surface and sub-surface defects, as well as the quantification of such defects. This work first reports a three-dimensional (3D) Eddy Current Pulsed Thermography (ECPT) system via integration with an RGB-D camera. Then, various quantitative measurements and analyses of defects are carried out based on the 3D ECPT system. The ECPT system at Newcastle University has been prooven to be an effective nondestructive testing (NDT) method in surface and sub-surface detection over the past few years. Based on the different numerical or analytical models, it has achieved precise defect detection on the rail tracks, wind turbines, carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) and so on. The ECPT system has the advantage of fast inspection and a large lift-off range. However, it involves a trade-off between detectable defect size and inspection area compared with other NDT methods. In addition, there are challenges of defect detection in a complex structure. Thus, the quantification of defects gives a higher requirement of the measurement the object geometry information. Furthermore, the analysis of thermal diffusion requires a precise 3D model. For this reason, a 3D ECPT system is proposed that adds each heat pixel with an exact X-Y-Z coordinate. In this work, first, the 3D ECPT system is built. A feature-based automatic calibration of the infrared camera and the RGB-D camera is proposed. Second, the software platform is built. A fast 3D visualization is completed with multi-threading technology and the Point Cloud Library. Lastly, various studies of defect localization, quantification and thermal tomography reconstruction are carried ou

Additive manufacturing (AM) or, more commonly, 3D printing is one of the fundamental elements of Industry 4.0. and the fourth industrial revolution. It has shown its potential example in the medical, automotive, aerospace, and spare part sectors. Personal manufacturing, complex and optimized parts, short series manufacturing and local on-demand manufacturing are some of the current benefits. Businesses based on AM have experienced double-digit growth in recent years. Accordingly, we have witnessed considerable efforts in developing processes and materials in terms of speed, costs, and availability. These open up new applications and business case possibilities all the time, which were not previously in existence. Most research has focused on material and AM process development or effort to utilize existing materials and processes for industrial applications. However, improving the understanding and simulation of materials and AM process and understanding the effect of different steps in the AM workflow can increase the performance even more. The best way of benefit of AM is to understand all the steps related to that—from the design and simulation to additive manufacturing and post-processing ending the actual application. The objective of this Special Issue was to provide a forum for researchers and practitioners to exchange their latest achievements and identify critical issues and challenges for future investigations on “Modeling, Simulation and Data Processing for Additive Manufacturing”. The Special Issue consists of 10 original full-length articles on the topic
