Combining local regularity estimation and total variation optimization for scale-free texture segmentation
Texture segmentation constitutes a standard image processing task, crucial to
many applications. The present contribution focuses on the particular subset of
scale-free textures and its originality resides in the combination of three key
ingredients: First, texture characterization relies on the concept of local
regularity ; Second, estimation of local regularity is based on new multiscale
quantities referred to as wavelet leaders ; Third, segmentation from local
regularity faces a fundamental bias variance trade-off: In nature, local
regularity estimation shows high variability that impairs the detection of
changes, while a posteriori smoothing of regularity estimates precludes from
locating correctly changes. Instead, the present contribution proposes several
variational problem formulations based on total variation and proximal
resolutions that effectively circumvent this trade-off. Estimation and
segmentation performance for the proposed procedures are quantified and
compared on synthetic as well as on real-world textures
Skeleton-aided Articulated Motion Generation
This work make the first attempt to generate articulated human motion
sequence from a single image. On the one hand, we utilize paired inputs
including human skeleton information as motion embedding and a single human
image as appearance reference, to generate novel motion frames, based on the
conditional GAN infrastructure. On the other hand, a triplet loss is employed
to pursue appearance-smoothness between consecutive frames. As the proposed
framework is capable of jointly exploiting the image appearance space and
articulated/kinematic motion space, it generates realistic articulated motion
sequence, in contrast to most previous video generation methods which yield
blurred motion effects. We test our model on two human action datasets
including KTH and Human3.6M, and the proposed framework generates very
promising results on both datasets.Comment: ACM MM 201
Symmetrized fractional total variation for signal and image analysis
We introduce and study a variational model for signal and image analysis based on
Riemann–Liouville fractional derivatives. Both the one-dimensional and
two-dimensional cases are studied. The model exploits a quadratic fitting data term
together with both right and left Riemann–Liouville fractional derivatives as
regularizing terms, with the aim of achieving an orientation-independent analysis
