Using model checking for interlocking software verification
The application of different verification methods is a prominent part of the development process for safety related systems. Some methods are suitable for the early lifecycle phases, while others are best used later. In the end, the most significant thing is that all the lifecycle phases can be verified in a sufficient manner and using the method best suited for the purpose. At Mipro, we have found that formal verification increases diversity in order to achieve the best possible verification results and improve the quality and safety of the deliveries

The dissertation is about principles, methods and techniques during the
systematic development of embedded systems in the domain of measurement
techniques. The considered domain contains fields of application with
challenging and specific requirements of the information processing system.
E.g. the dynamic weighing systems need solutions with very high resolution
and lowest achievable measurement uncertainty in order to perform
high-speed-measurements in a mechanically disturbed environment. In
particular, the abilities for official calibration and metrologic
reliability are considered. The complex and high-performance functions are
required to guarantee measurement results. FPGA-based systems are used for
the implementation of these functions. The especially designed certifiable
development process (ZEfIRA) provides a procedural method for the
development of complex embedded systems. The metrologic reliability, the
legal requirements like calibratability, the validation and the
verification are included as a general criteria in the entire development
process. ZEfIRA is based on the 3W-model and is designed in an evolutionary
manner. This process starts with the analysis of a predecessor system
followed by the model-based development of a prototype, which leads into an
optimized and application-specific product solution. The study emphasizes
the influence of challenging requirements on the measurement system. It
will be presented, how these can be integrated into the modelling level
during the design and the implementation on a FPGA-based target platform.
The stages of the functional and technical design of the system are
analysed, whereas the realization of the partitions “FPGA logic” and “FPGA
softcore solutions” are discussed in detail.Based on the preliminary design
of the information processing in an electromagnetic force compensation
(EMC) scale, the applicability of the process ZEfIRA and its developed
methods and principles are proved. On the one hand, the optimal
system-specific algorithms of signal processing, control and safety and on
the other hand whose technical implementation are essential. This was
realized with different performance parameters. In addition, the prototype
allows the possible comprehensive analysis for embedding system. In the
conclusion, the performance of ZEfIRA based on the prototype development is
evaluated.
The ever increasing performance of modern computing systems enables the realization of more challenging functionalities in software and mechatronic systems. This tendency results in an increase in system complexity and also makes the operation by users more difficult. Therefore, recent developments are focusing more strongly on the usability of technical systems, especially in case of systems that do not only communicate with users via a user interface but also interact with them physically. Systems that support social reintegration of persons with disabilities, so-called rehabilitation or support robots, fall into this area. This thesis focuses on the development of methods for adaptive user interactions within a software architecture for rehabilitation robots. The objective is the development of a software framework that acts as a basis for the adaptability of the graphical user interface. The methods presented to realize adaptivity are based on a user interface modularization by encapsulating all functionalities into modules. These modules can be activated or deactivated during run-time depending on the availability of resources. Furthermore, a bi-directional communication channel between the user interface and active modules as well as among modules is established. Thus it becomes possible to source common functionality out into modules and to have it reused by other modules. The communication is based on a specification language that has been developed to enable validation and to reach robust run-time behavior. An extensive review of the software architecture used for the target system identified open problems that previously prevented the realization of adaptivity within the user interface. By using another specification language, finding solutions for those open problems becomes possible as well as achieving the set objective. The development is based on an abstraction layer between the user interface and the remaining layers of the software architecture. This realizes full decoupling of the user interface from system specificfunctionality. To proof the concept for adaptivity within the user interface, the implementation of a module integrating an algorithm for pattern recognition is exemplarily shown with the aim to predict future actions of the user by evaluating previous actions

It is risky to introduce domain-specific engineering methods to different companies. The effort to replace an existing engineering method can be extensive so that investment costs are hard to judge. Beside that, the expected advantages have uncertainties because each company has poorly changeable, individual properties, so called situational factors. They describe the method context in that the engineering method will be applied. If the engineering method does not fit to the method context, a successful introduction is jeopardized. To reduce the mentioned risks, this thesis enhances the known approach, MetaMe, a meta-method to develop individual software engineering methods, regarding the characteristics of situational method enhancements. It adds the analysis of the current state to identify the existing engineering method. The engineering method will be described in a model-based manner with a newly introduced language. A demand analysis identifies single improvements and situational factors. Upon that information method requirements are created. Based on the method requirements iterative method enhancement projects are defined. With that it is possible to do a step wise change of engineering methods, which is the desired approach of the companies. Furthermore, it will be shown how to adjust the engineering method according to the method context based on the method requirements. The new method engineering approach is substantiated by two industrial case studies in the area of server-systems-engineering. For each example an individually developed engineering method will be presented.vorgelegt von Michael SpijkermanTag der Verteidigung: 24.03.2015Paderborn, Univ., Diss., 201
