Optimization of hot press forging parameters in direct recycling of aluminium chip (AA 6061)

    Get PDF
This study introduces a new approach of direct recycling using the hot press forging process that eliminates the two intermediate processes of cold-compact and pre-heating. This method leads to low energy consumption without intervening the metallurgical processes. In this study, the optimum of machined chips from high speed milling is recycled by hot press forging. The mechanical properties and surface integrity of the different chips were investigated. The performance of recycled aluminium AA 6061 chips in the mechanical and physical properties were compared with the original aluminium billet. Response surface methodology (RSM) was used to develop mathematical model of the effects on pre-compaction cycle, holding time and suitable pressure significant to the process. It is hoped that, utilization of primary metal could be fully utilized by direct recycling technique (hot press forging) introduced in this study and at the same time developing a sustainable manufacturing process technology for future needs

Gene Therapy – Potential, Pros, Cons and Ethics

Genetic technology poses risks along with its rewards, just as any technology has in the past. To stop its development and forfeit the benefits gene therapy could offer would be a far greater mistake than forging ahead could ever be. People must always try to be responsible with their new technology, but gene therapy has the potential to be the future of medicine and its possibilities must be explored

Forging the future: community leadership and economic change in Coös County, New Hampshire

    Get PDF
Author Michele Dillon conducted a case study of community change in Coös County, New Hampshire, for two-and-a-half years (June 2009-December 2011) to investigate how local community leaders in Coös assess the initiatives, challenges, opportunities, and progress in the North Country during this time of economic transition. Her primary data-gathering method included personal interviews with community leaders, supplemented by observation, documentary, and survey data. Dillon discusses how there is a strong consensus among community leaders that Coös needs to work together as a county with a unified vision and voice while respecting the specific character, strengths, and needs of each local community. The leaders\u27 visions of economic development and how economic progress should be achieved, however, vary

Forging the Future: Connecting Research to Communities

Lightning talk delivered at the ACRL 2023 Conference in Pittsburgh, PA. The literature suggests that information users beyond the academy rely on a variety of sources in the course of their work, most of which can be described as grey literature. However, academic researchers tend to focus their efforts on other research publications, like peer reviewed journal articles, because there is little perceived professional benefit to producing grey literature. A 2022 survey of state government and local nonprofit workers sheds some light on the gap between academic researchers and a potential audience for their work and illustrates the potential for community-focused research products published outside of traditional channels

The Limits of Corporate Responsibility. By Neil W. Chamberlain. New York: Basic Books, Inc. 1973. Pp. 236. $10.00.

This book is a chronicle of past and a prediction of future corporate survival through the furtherance of the consumerist philosophy. Professor Chamberlain discusses (although all too briefly) how corporations have inculcated in American society the materialism that is its principal motivating force and how that value, feeding on itself and thereby forging an alliance of mutual need between the corporate structure and the American people, has created the situation described in the above quotation. He also analyzes the impact of this philosophy on various aspects of corporate and noncorporate life, from the corporation\u27s relationship with its employees to that with its shareholders, from the physical environment to education, from community decisions to national policy and international relations

FORGE enabling FIRE facilities for the eLearning community

    Get PDF
International audienceMany engineering students at third-level institutions across the world will not have the advantage of using real-world experimentation equipment, as the infrastructure and resources required for this activity are too expensive. This paper explains how the FORGE (Forging Online Education through FIRE) FP7 project transforms Future Internet Research and Experimentation (FIRE) testbed facilities into educational resources for the eLearning community. This is achieved by providing a framework for remote experimentation that supports easy access and control to testbed infrastructure for students and educators. Moreover, we identify a list of recommendations to support development of eLearning courses that access these facilities and highlight some of the challenges encountered by FORGE
