    Get PDF
We present the data structures and algorithms used in the approach for building domain ontologies from folksonomies and linked data. In this approach we extracts domain terms from folksonomies and enrich them with semantic information from the Linked Open Data cloud. As a result, we obtain a domain ontology that combines the emergent knowledge of social tagging systems with formal knowledge from Ontologies

Purpose The signiïŹcant purpose of conducting this research is to find out more about folksonomy-based services with the help of word cloud and tag cloud. Broader terms and narrower terms are searching on bibliographic records and linking web repositories. It shows the integration mechanism of the word cloud and tag cloud with ILS OPAC using Koha and HTML scripts. Designing and developing a process for easy retrieving of library resources based on folksonomy enabled services. These new innovative services are very much helpful for library users. Methodology This folksonomy-based integrated framework has been developed and designed based on global repositories. Word cloud and tag cloud are possible with the help of HTML scripts and Koha ILS OPAC. Developed a framework for incorporating the HTML script in Koha OPAC main user block based on tools and news options in staff client interfaces. The HTML script has been designed from the word cloud concept in the online repository. This integrated web 2.0 framework is very fruitful to library professionals because it depends on a LAMP architecture. The whole system and services have been developed on Ubuntu operating system. Findings Folksonomy-based services can be achieved for the users after proper configuration and adding of these concepts. It is possible to provide the web 2.0 services with the help of word cloud and tag cloud from Koha ILS OPAC. Related terms and links can be accessed using this integrated framework. So, folksonomy-based services have been provided by using these techniques. Originality The originality of this study is keyword visualization based on folksonomy services. This integrated framework belongs to web 2.0 concepts. It is possible to generate the word cloud and tag cloud in ILS OPAC in the form of visualization. This is very useful and conducive to library users. So all the libraries are very much attracted to these modern services and strategies. This integrated framework is based on web 2.0, and folksonomy-enabled services in tag and word cloud. Overall, it is possible to integrate and generate these services with OPAC to increase modern information retrieval systems and services

Semantic Interaction in Web-based Retrieval Systems : Adopting Semantic Web Technologies and Social Networking Paradigms for Interacting with Semi-structured Web Data

Existing web retrieval models for exploration and interaction with web data do not take into account semantic information, nor do they allow for new forms of interaction by employing meaningful interaction and navigation metaphors in 2D/3D. This thesis researches means for introducing a semantic dimension into the search and exploration process of web content to enable a significantly positive user experience. Therefore, an inherently dynamic view beyond single concepts and models from semantic information processing, information extraction and human-machine interaction is adopted. Essential tasks for semantic interaction such as semantic annotation, semantic mediation and semantic human-computer interaction were identified and elaborated for two general application scenarios in web retrieval: Web-based Question Answering in a knowledge-based dialogue system and semantic exploration of information spaces in 2D/3D

Social tags and linked data for ontology development: a case study in the financial domain

We describe a domain ontology development approach that extracts domain terms from folksonomies and enrich them with data and vocabularies from the Linked Open Data cloud. As a result, we obtain lightweight domain ontologies that combine the emergent knowledge of social tagging systems with formal knowledge from Ontologies. In order to illustrate the feasibility of our approach, we have produced an ontology in the financial domain from tags available in Delicious, using DBpedia, OpenCyc and UMBEL as additional knowledge sources

Tags Are Related: Measurement of Semantic Relatedness Based on Folksonomy Network

    Get PDF
Folksonomy and tagging systems, which allow users to interactively annotate a pool of shared resources using descriptive tags, have enjoyed phenomenal success in recent years. The concepts are organized as a map in human mind, however, the tags in folksonomy, which reflect users' collaborative cognition on information, are isolated with current approach. What we do in this paper is to estimate the semantic relatedness among tags in folksonomy: whether tags are related from semantic view, rather than isolated? We introduce different algorithms to form networks of folksonomy, connecting tags by users collaborative tagging, or by resource context. Then we perform multiple measures of semantic relatedness on folksonomy networks to investigate semantic information within them. The result shows that the connections between tags have relatively strong semantic relatedness, and the relatedness decreases dramatically as the distance between tags increases. What we find in this paper could provide useful visions in designing future folksonomy-based systems, constructing semantic web in current state of the Internet, and developing natural language processing applications

Improving Usability And Scalability Of Big Data Workflows In The Cloud

    Get PDF
Big data workflows have recently emerged as the next generation of data-centric workflow technologies to address the five “V” challenges of big data: volume, variety, velocity, veracity, and value. More formally, a big data workflow is the computerized modeling and automation of a process consisting of a set of computational tasks and their data interdependencies to process and analyze data of ever increasing in scale, complexity, and rate of acquisition. The convergence of big data and workflows creates new challenges in workflow community. First, the variety of big data results in a need for integrating large number of remote Web services and other heterogeneous task components that can consume and produce data in various formats and models into a uniform and interoperable workflow. Existing approaches fall short in addressing the so-called shimming problem only in an adhoc manner and unable to provide a generic solution. We automatically insert a piece of code called shims or adaptors in order to resolve the data type mismatches. Second, the volume of big data results in a large number of datasets that needs to be queried and analyzed in an effective and personalized manner. Further, there is also a strong need for sharing, reusing, and repurposing existing tasks and workflows across different users and institutes. To overcome such limitations, we propose a folksonomy- based social workflow recommendation system to improve workflow design productivity and efficient dataset querying and analyzing. Third, the volume of big data results in the need to process and analyze data of ever increasing in scale, complexity, and rate of acquisition. But a scalable distributed data model is still missing that abstracts and automates data distribution, parallelism, and scalable processing. We propose a NoSQL collectional data model that addresses this limitation. Finally, the volume of big data combined with the unbound resource leasing capability foreseen in the cloud, facilitates data scientists to wring actionable insights from the data in a time and cost efficient manner. We propose BARENTS scheduler that supports high-performance workflow scheduling in a heterogeneous cloud-computing environment with a single objective to minimize the workflow makespan under a user provided budget constraint

Social Tagging: Exploring the Image, the Tags, and the Game

    Get PDF
An increasing amount of images are being uploaded, shared, and retrieved on the Web. These large image collections need to be properly stored, organized and easily retrieved. Tags have a key role in image retrieval but it is difficult for those who upload the images to also undertake the quality tag assignment for potential future retrieval by others. Relying on professional keyword assignment is not a practical option for large image collections due to resource constraints. Although a number of content-based image retrieval systems have been launched, they have not demonstrated sufficient utility on large-scale image sources on the web, and are usually used as a supplement to existing text-based image retrieval systems. An alternative to professional image indexing can be social tagging -- with two major types being photo-sharing networks and image labeling games. Here we analyze these applications to evaluate their usefulness from the semantic point of view. We also investigate whether social tagging behaviour can be managed. The findings of the study have shown that social tagging can generate a sizeable number of tags that can be classified as interpretive for an image, and that tagging behaviour has a manageable and adjustable nature depending on tagging guidelines
