    On the interpretation and identification of dynamic Takagi-Sugenofuzzy models

    Dynamic Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy models are not always easy to interpret, in particular when they are identified from experimental data. It is shown that there exists a close relationship between dynamic Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy models and dynamic linearization when using affine local model structures, which suggests that a solution to the multiobjective identification problem exists. However, it is also shown that the affine local model structure is a highly sensitive parametrization when applied in transient operating regimes. Due to the multiobjective nature of the identification problem studied here, special considerations must be made during model structure selection, experiment design, and identification in order to meet both objectives. Some guidelines for experiment design are suggested and some robust nonlinear identification algorithms are studied. These include constrained and regularized identification and locally weighted identification. Their usefulness in the present context is illustrated by examples

    APPRAISAL OF TAKAGI–SUGENO TYPE NEURO-FUZZY NETWORK SYSTEM WITH A MODIFIED DIFFERENTIAL EVOLUTION METHOD TO PREDICT NONLINEAR WHEEL DYNAMICS CAUSED BY ROAD IRREGULARITIES

    Wheel dynamics play a substantial role in traversing and controlling the vehicle, braking, ride comfort, steering, and maneuvering. The transient wheel dynamics are difficult to be ascertained in tire–obstacle contact condition. To this end, a single-wheel testing rig was utilized in a soil bin facility for provision of a controlled experimental medium. Differently manufactured obstacles (triangular and Gaussian shaped geometries) were employed at different obstacle heights, wheel loads, tire slippages and forward speeds to measure the forces induced at vertical and horizontal directions at tire–obstacle contact interface. A new Takagi–Sugeno type neuro-fuzzy network system with a modified Differential Evolution (DE) method was used to model wheel dynamics caused by road irregularities. DE is a robust optimization technique for complex and stochastic algorithms with ever expanding applications in real-world problems. It was revealed that the new proposed model can be served as a functional alternative to classical modeling tools for the prediction of nonlinear wheel dynamics

    Model reduction design for continuous systems with finite frequency specifications

    This paper is concerned with the problem of model reduction design for continuous systems in Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model. Through the defined FF H∞ gain performance, sufficient conditions are derived to design model reduction and to assure the fuzzy error system to be asymptotically stable with a FF H∞ gain performance index. The explicit conditions of fuzzy model reduction are developed by solving linear matrix inequalities. Finally, a numerical example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method

    Analysis, filtering, and control for Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy models in networked systems

Among different kinds of models for fuzzy systems, the so-called Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy model has been quite popular due to its convenient and simple dynamic structure as well as its capability of approximating any smooth nonlinear function to any specified accuracy within any compact set. In terms of such a model, the performance analysis and the design of controllers and filters play important roles in the research of fuzzy systems. In this paper, we aim to survey some recent advances on the T-S fuzzy control and filtering problems with various network-induced phenomena. The network-induced phenomena under consideration mainly include communication delays, packet dropouts, signal quantization, and randomly occurring uncertainties (ROUs). With such network-induced phenomena, the developments on T-S fuzzy control and filtering issues are reviewed in detail. In addition, some latest results on this topic are highlighted.     A WANFIS Model for Use in System Identification and Structural Control of Civil Engineering Structures

    With the increased deterioration of infrastructure in this country, it has become important to find ways to maintain the strength and integrity of a structure over its design life. Being able to control the amount a structure displaces or vibrates during a seismic event, as well as being able to model this nonlinear behavior, provides a new challenge for structural engineers. This research proposes a wavelet-based adaptive neuro- fuzzy inference system for use in system identification and structural control of civil engineering structures. This algorithm combines aspects of fuzzy logic theory, neural networks, and wavelet transforms to create a new system that effectively reduces the number of sensors needed in a structure to capture its seismic response and the amount of computation time needed to model its nonlinear behavior. The algorithm has been tested for structural control using a three-story building equipped with a magnetorheological damper for system identification, an eight-story building, and a benchmark highway bridge. Each of these examples has been tested using a variety of earthquakes, including the El-Centro, Kobe, Hachinohe, Northridge, and other seismic events

    Unknown input observer for Takagi-Sugeno implicit models with unmeasurable premise variables

    Recent years have seen a great deal of interest in implicit nonlinear systems, which are used in many different engineering applications. This study is dedicated to presenting a new method of fuzzy unknown inputs observer design to estimate simultaneously both non-measurable states and unknown inputs of continuous-time nonlinear implicit systems defined by Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) models with unmeasurable premise variables. The suggested observer is based on the singular value decomposition approach and rewritten the continuous-time T-S implicit models into an augmented fuzzy system, which gathers the unknown inputs and the state vector. The exponential convergence condition of the observer is established by using the Lyapunov theory and linear matrix inequalities are solved to determine the gains of the observer. Finally, the effectiveness of the suggested method is then assessed using a numerical application. It demonstrates that the estimated variables and the unknown input converge to the real variables accurately and quickly (less than 0.5 s)

    Hand (Motor) Movement Imagery Classification of EEG Using Takagi-Sugeno-Kang Fuzzy-Inference Neural Network

    Approximately 20 million people in the United States suffer from irreversible nerve damage and would benefit from a neuroprosthetic device modulated by a Brain-Computer Interface (BCI). These devices restore independence by replacing peripheral nervous system functions such as peripheral control. Although there are currently devices under investigation, contemporary methods fail to offer adaptability and proper signal recognition for output devices. Human anatomical differences prevent the use of a fixed model system from providing consistent classification performance among various subjects. Furthermore, notoriously noisy signals such as Electroencephalography (EEG) require complex measures for signal detection. Therefore, there remains a tremendous need to explore and improve new algorithms. This report investigates a signal-processing model that is better suited for BCI applications because it incorporates machine learning and fuzzy logic. Whereas traditional machine learning techniques utilize precise functions to map the input into the feature space, fuzzy-neuro system apply imprecise membership functions to account for uncertainty and can be updated via supervised learning. Thus, this method is better equipped to tolerate uncertainty and improve performance over time. Moreover, a variation of this algorithm used in this study has a higher convergence speed. The proposed two-stage signal-processing model consists of feature extraction and feature translation, with an emphasis on the latter. The feature extraction phase includes Blind Source Separation (BSS) and the Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT), and the feature translation stage includes the Takagi-Sugeno-Kang Fuzzy-Neural Network (TSKFNN). Performance of the proposed model corresponds to an average classification accuracy of 79.4 % for 40 subjects, which is higher than the standard literature values, 75%, making this a superior model

    Design of Fuzzy Optimized Controller for Satellite Attitude Control by Two State actuator to reduce Limit Cycle based on Takagi-Sugeno Method

    In this paper, an algorithm was presented to control the satellite attitude in orbit in order to reduce the fuel consumption and increase longevity of satellite. Because of proper operation and simplicity, fuzzy controller was used to save fuel and analyze the uncertainty and nonlinearities of satellite control system. The presented control algorithm has a high level of reliability facing unwanted disturbances considering the satellite limitations. The controller was designed based on Takagi-Sugeno satellite dynamic model, a powerful tool for modeling nonlinear systems. Inherent chattering related to on-off controller produces limit cycles with low frequency amplitude. This increases the system error and maximizes the satellite fuel consumption. Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm was used to minimize the system error.     Fuzzy Model-based Pitch Stabilization and Wing Vibration Suppression of Flexible Wing Aircraft.

    This paper presents a fuzzy nonlinear controller to regulate the longitudinal dynamics of an aircraft and suppress the bending and torsional vibrations of its flexible wings. The fuzzy controller utilizes full-state feedback with input constraint. First, the Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy linear model is developed which approximates the coupled aeroelastic aircraft model. Then, based on the fuzzy linear model, a fuzzy controller is developed to utilize a full-state feedback and stabilize the system while it satisfies the control input constraint. Linear matrix inequality (LMI) techniques are employed to solve the fuzzy control problem. Finally, the performance of the proposed controller is demonstrated on the NASA Generic Transport Model (GTM)
