Cold Fusion: Training Seq2Seq Models Together with Language Models
Sequence-to-sequence (Seq2Seq) models with attention have excelled at tasks
which involve generating natural language sentences such as machine
translation, image captioning and speech recognition. Performance has further
been improved by leveraging unlabeled data, often in the form of a language
model. In this work, we present the Cold Fusion method, which leverages a
pre-trained language model during training, and show its effectiveness on the
speech recognition task. We show that Seq2Seq models with Cold Fusion are able
to better utilize language information enjoying i) faster convergence and
better generalization, and ii) almost complete transfer to a new domain while
using less than 10% of the labeled training data
Dialogue Act Recognition via CRF-Attentive Structured Network
Dialogue Act Recognition (DAR) is a challenging problem in dialogue
interpretation, which aims to attach semantic labels to utterances and
characterize the speaker's intention. Currently, many existing approaches
formulate the DAR problem ranging from multi-classification to structured
prediction, which suffer from handcrafted feature extensions and attentive
contextual structural dependencies. In this paper, we consider the problem of
DAR from the viewpoint of extending richer Conditional Random Field (CRF)
structural dependencies without abandoning end-to-end training. We incorporate
hierarchical semantic inference with memory mechanism on the utterance
modeling. We then extend structured attention network to the linear-chain
conditional random field layer which takes into account both contextual
utterances and corresponding dialogue acts. The extensive experiments on two
major benchmark datasets Switchboard Dialogue Act (SWDA) and Meeting Recorder
Dialogue Act (MRDA) datasets show that our method achieves better performance
than other state-of-the-art solutions to the problem. It is a remarkable fact
that our method is nearly close to the human annotator's performance on SWDA
within 2% gap.Comment: 10 pages, 4figure
Skeleton-Based Human Action Recognition with Global Context-Aware Attention LSTM Networks
Human action recognition in 3D skeleton sequences has attracted a lot of
research attention. Recently, Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks have shown
promising performance in this task due to their strengths in modeling the
dependencies and dynamics in sequential data. As not all skeletal joints are
informative for action recognition, and the irrelevant joints often bring noise
which can degrade the performance, we need to pay more attention to the
informative ones. However, the original LSTM network does not have explicit
attention ability. In this paper, we propose a new class of LSTM network,
Global Context-Aware Attention LSTM (GCA-LSTM), for skeleton based action
recognition. This network is capable of selectively focusing on the informative
joints in each frame of each skeleton sequence by using a global context memory
cell. To further improve the attention capability of our network, we also
introduce a recurrent attention mechanism, with which the attention performance
of the network can be enhanced progressively. Moreover, we propose a stepwise
training scheme in order to train our network effectively. Our approach
achieves state-of-the-art performance on five challenging benchmark datasets
for skeleton based action recognition
