A review of convex approaches for control, observation and safety of linear parameter varying and Takagi-Sugeno systems
This paper provides a review about the concept of convex systems based on Takagi-Sugeno, linear parameter varying (LPV) and quasi-LPV modeling. These paradigms are capable of hiding the nonlinearities by means of an equivalent description which uses a set of linear models interpolated by appropriately defined weighing functions. Convex systems have become very popular since they allow applying extended linear techniques based on linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) to complex nonlinear systems. This survey aims at providing the reader with a significant overview of the existing LMI-based techniques for convex systems in the fields of control, observation and safety. Firstly, a detailed review of stability, feedback, tracking and model predictive control (MPC) convex controllers is considered. Secondly, the problem of state estimation is addressed through the design of proportional, proportional-integral, unknown input and descriptor observers. a new methodology in numerical differentiation. The corresponding basic system
theoretic definitions and properties are presented within the framework of
differential algebra, which permits to handle system variables and their
derivatives of any order. Several academic examples and their computer
simulations, with on-line estimations, are illustrating our viewpoint
Zonotopic fault detection observer design for TakagiâSugeno fuzzy systems
This paper considers zonotopic fault detection observer design in the finite-frequency domain for discrete-time TakagiâSugeno fuzzy systems with unknown but bounded disturbances and measurement noise. We present a novel fault detection observer structure, which is more general than the commonly used Luenberger form. To make the generated residual sensitive to faults and robust against disturbances, we develop a finite-frequency fault detection observer based on generalised KalmanâYakubovichâPopov lemma and P-radius criterion. The design conditions are expressed in terms of linear matrix inequalities. The major merit of the proposed method is that residual evaluation can be easily implemented via zonotopic approach. Model-based fault detection and isolation for wind turbine
In this paper, a quantitative model based method is proposed for early fault detection and diagnosis of wind turbines. The method is based on designing an observer using a model of the system. The observer innovation signal is monitored to detect faults. For application to the wind turbines, a first principles nonlinear model with pitch angle and torque controllers is developed for simulation and then a simplified state space version of the model is derived for design. The fault detection system is designed and optimized to be most sensitive to system faults and least sensitive to system disturbances and noises. A multiobjective optimization method is then employed to solve this dual problem. Simulation results are presented to demonstrate the performance of the proposed method
Fault estimation and active fault tolerant control for linear parameter varying descriptor systems
Starting with the baseline controller design, this paper proposes an integrated approach of active fault tolerant control based on proportional derivative extended state observer (PDESO) for linear parameter varying descriptor systems. The PDESO can simultaneously provide the estimates of the system states, sensor faults, and actuator faults. The Lâ robust performance of the closed-loop system to bounded exogenous disturbance and bounded uncertainty is achieved by a two-step design procedure adapted from the traditional observer-based controller design. Furthermore, an LMI pole-placement region and the Lâ robustness performance are combined into a multiobjective formulation by suitably combing the appropriate LMI descriptions. A parameter-varying system example is given to illustrate the design procedure and the validity of the proposed integrated design approach
Fault estimation and fault-tolerant control for discrete-time dynamic systems
In this paper, a novel discrete-time estimator is proposed, which is employed for simultaneous estimation of system states, and actuator/sensor faults in a discrete-time dynamic system. The existence of the discrete-time simultaneous estimator is proven mathematically. The systematic design procedure for the derivative and proportional observer gains is addressed, enabling the estimation error dynamics to be internally proper and stable, and robust against the effects from the process disturbances, measurement noise, and faults. Based on the estimated fault signals and system states, a discrete-time fault-tolerant design approach is addressed, by which the system may recover the system performance when actuator/sensor faults occur. Finally, the proposed integrated discrete-time fault estimation and fault-tolerant control technique is applied to the vehicle lateral dynamics, which demonstrates the effectiveness of the developed techniques

The problem addressed is that of designing a full-order observer that guarantees the exponential stability of the error dynamic system. An effective algebraic matrix equation approach is developed to solve this problem. In particular, both the observer analysis and design problems are investigated. By using the singular value decomposition technique and the generalized inverse theory, sufficient conditions for a neutral-type delay system to be exponentially stable are first established. Then, an explicit expression of the desired observers is derived in terms of some free parameters. Furthermore, an illustrative example is used to demonstrate the validity of the proposed design procedur
A general formulation for fault detection in stochastic continuous-time dynamical systems
