    Fault diagnosis and fault-tolerant control for system with fast time-varying delay

    This paper proposes a fault diagnosis and fault-tolerant control method for a system with a fast time-varying delay and time-varying parameters. A fault observer is designed to estimate faults, and an improved fast adaptive fault estimation (FAFE) algorithm is developed to reduce the relevant constraints in the general form of this algorithm. With newly introduced relaxation matrices, this study estimates faults in a system exhibiting a fast time-varying delay. Based on the estimated faults, an output feedback controller is designed to accommodate the faults. The fault-tolerant control is realized using the introduced relaxation matrices. An algorithm is derived to solve for the observer and controller. Finally, the theory and method are validated using a real example of a helicopter system

    Identification of the nonlinear systems based on the kernel functions

    Constructing an appropriate membership function is significant in fuzzy logic control. Based on the multi-model control theory, this article constructs a novel kernel function which can implement the fuzzification and defuzzification processes and reflect the dynamic quality of the nonlinear systems accurately. Then we focus on the identification problems of the nonlinear systems based on the kernel functions. Applying the hierarchical identification principle, we present the hierarchical stochastic gradient algorithm for the nonlinear systems. Meanwhile, the one-dimensional search methods are proposed to solve the problem of determining the optimal step sizes. In order to improve the parameter estimation accuracy, we propose the hierarchical multi-innovation forgetting factor stochastic gradient algorithm by introducing the forgetting factor and using the multi-innovation identification theory. The simulation example is provided to test the proposed algorithms from the aspects of parameter estimation accuracy and prediction performance

    Welcome to ROBOTICA 2009. This is the 9th edition of the conference on Autonomous Robot Systems and Competitions, the third time with IEEE‐Robotics and Automation Society Technical Co‐Sponsorship. Previous editions were held since 2001 in Guimarães, Aveiro, Porto, Lisboa, Coimbra and Algarve. ROBOTICA 2009 is held on the 7th May, 2009, in Castelo Branco , Portugal. ROBOTICA has received 32 paper submissions, from 10 countries, in South America, Asia and Europe. To evaluate each submission, three reviews by paper were performed by the international program committee. 23 papers were published in the proceedings and presented at the conference. Of these, 14 papers were selected for oral presentation and 9 papers were selected for poster presentation. The global acceptance ratio was 72%. After the conference, eighth papers will be published in the Portuguese journal Robótica, and the best student paper will be published in IEEE Multidisciplinary Engineering Education Magazine. Three prizes will be awarded in the conference for: the best conference paper, the best student paper and the best presentation. The last two, sponsored by the IEEE Education Society ‐ Student Activities Committee. We would like to express our thanks to all participants. First of all to the authors, whose quality work is the essence of this conference. Next, to all the members of the international program committee and reviewers, who helped us with their expertise and valuable time. We would also like to deeply thank the invited speaker, Jean Paul Laumond, LAAS‐CNRS France, for their excellent contribution in the field of humanoid robots.     Supervisory control of machine tool feed drives.

    While motion control of machine tool feed drives is the targeted application. The goal of this study is to explore the relative performance potentials of supervisory control systems against the classical servo control systems; Reconfiguration aspects at the control level are the scope of this study. One of the most essential nonlinear problems faced during modeling and control stages of the CNC machining systems is called backlash. Reversal of motion for each moving axis can lead to that area of disengagement where backlash occurs due to inherently unavoidable clearance between linkages of the machine tool feed drive system. Due to backlash, efficiency of machine tools will be undesirably turned down causing higher vibrations, lower contouring accuracy, and may draw the whole system into instability region. A Switching control scheme is designed to manage the control process where two different controllers with two different control functionalities, acting differently in two vital zones---one of them where the backlash lies, and the other when moving past the backlash---seem to be an important need.     Pathfinder autonomous rendezvous and docking project

    Capabilities are being developed and demonstrated to support manned and unmanned vehicle operations in lunar and planetary orbits. In this initial phase, primary emphasis is placed on definition of the system requirements for candidate Pathfinder mission applications and correlation of these system-level requirements with specific requirements. The FY-89 activities detailed are best characterized as foundation building. The majority of the efforts were dedicated to assessing the current state of the art, identifying desired elaborations and expansions to this level of development and charting a course that will realize the desired objectives in the future. Efforts are detailed across all work packages in developing those requirements and tools needed to test, refine, and validate basic autonomous rendezvous and docking elements
