    One machine, one minute, three billion tetrahedra

    This paper presents a new scalable parallelization scheme to generate the 3D Delaunay triangulation of a given set of points. Our first contribution is an efficient serial implementation of the incremental Delaunay insertion algorithm. A simple dedicated data structure, an efficient sorting of the points and the optimization of the insertion algorithm have permitted to accelerate reference implementations by a factor three. Our second contribution is a multi-threaded version of the Delaunay kernel that is able to concurrently insert vertices. Moore curve coordinates are used to partition the point set, avoiding heavy synchronization overheads. Conflicts are managed by modifying the partitions with a simple rescaling of the space-filling curve. The performances of our implementation have been measured on three different processors, an Intel core-i7, an Intel Xeon Phi and an AMD EPYC, on which we have been able to compute 3 billion tetrahedra in 53 seconds. This corresponds to a generation rate of over 55 million tetrahedra per second. We finally show how this very efficient parallel Delaunay triangulation can be integrated in a Delaunay refinement mesh generator which takes as input the triangulated surface boundary of the volume to mesh

However, these theoretical results have received very little attention from the practical perspective. Few of the algorithms are implemented and tested on real datasets, and their practical potential is far from understood.     SAT Modulo Monotonic Theories

    We define the concept of a monotonic theory and show how to build efficient SMT (SAT Modulo Theory) solvers, including effective theory propagation and clause learning, for such theories. We present examples showing that monotonic theories arise from many common problems, e.g., graph properties such as reachability, shortest paths, connected components, minimum spanning tree, and max-flow/min-cut, and then demonstrate our framework by building SMT solvers for each of these theories. We apply these solvers to procedural content generation problems, demonstrating major speed-ups over state-of-the-art approaches based on SAT or Answer Set Programming, and easily solving several instances that were previously impractical to solve

    Cut Tree Construction from Massive Graphs

    The construction of cut trees (also known as Gomory-Hu trees) for a given graph enables the minimum-cut size of the original graph to be obtained for any pair of vertices. Cut trees are a powerful back-end for graph management and mining, as they support various procedures related to the minimum cut, maximum flow, and connectivity. However, the crucial drawback with cut trees is the computational cost of their construction. In theory, a cut tree is built by applying a maximum flow algorithm for nn times, where nn is the number of vertices. Therefore, naive implementations of this approach result in cubic time complexity, which is obviously too slow for today's large-scale graphs. To address this issue, in the present study, we propose a new cut-tree construction algorithm tailored to real-world networks. Using a series of experiments, we demonstrate that the proposed algorithm is several orders of magnitude faster than previous algorithms and it can construct cut trees for billion-scale graphs.Comment: Short version will appear at ICDM'1

    Fast network configuration in Software Defined Networking

    Software Defined Networking (SDN) provides a framework to dynamically adjust and re-program the data plane with the use of flow rules. The realization of highly adaptive SDNs with the ability to respond to changing demands or recover after a network failure in a short period of time, hinges on efficient updates of flow rules. We model the time to deploy a set of flow rules by the update time at the bottleneck switch, and formulate the problem of selecting paths to minimize the deployment time under feasibility constraints as a mixed integer linear program (MILP). To reduce the computation time of determining flow rules, we propose efficient heuristics designed to approximate the minimum-deployment-time solution by relaxing the MILP or selecting the paths sequentially. Through extensive simulations we show that our algorithms outperform current, shortest path based solutions by reducing the total network configuration time up to 55% while having similar packet loss, in the considered scenarios. We also demonstrate that in a networked environment with a certain fraction of failed links, our algorithms are able to reduce the average time to reestablish disrupted flows by 40%

    Advanced Flow-Based Multilevel Hypergraph Partitioning

    The balanced hypergraph partitioning problem is to partition a hypergraph into k disjoint blocks of bounded size such that the sum of the number of blocks connected by each hyperedge is minimized. We present an improvement to the flow-based refinement framework of KaHyPar-MF, the current state-of-the-art multilevel k-way hypergraph partitioning algorithm for high-quality solutions. Our improvement is based on the recently proposed HyperFlowCutter algorithm for computing bipartitions of unweighted hypergraphs by solving a sequence of incremental maximum flow problems. Since vertices and hyperedges are aggregated during the coarsening phase, refinement algorithms employed in the multilevel setting must be able to handle both weighted hyperedges and weighted vertices - even if the initial input hypergraph is unweighted. We therefore enhance HyperFlowCutter to handle weighted instances and propose a technique for computing maximum flows directly on weighted hypergraphs. We compare the performance of two configurations of our new algorithm with KaHyPar-MF and seven other partitioning algorithms on a comprehensive benchmark set with instances from application areas such as VLSI design, scientific computing, and SAT solving. Our first configuration, KaHyPar-HFC, computes slightly better solutions than KaHyPar-MF using significantly less running time. The second configuration, KaHyPar-HFC*, computes solutions of significantly better quality and is still slightly faster than KaHyPar-MF. Furthermore, in terms of solution quality, both configurations also outperform all other competing partitioners
