    ClouNS - A Cloud-native Application Reference Model for Enterprise Architects

    The capability to operate cloud-native applications can generate enormous business growth and value. But enterprise architects should be aware that cloud-native applications are vulnerable to vendor lock-in. We investigated cloud-native application design principles, public cloud service providers, and industrial cloud standards. All results indicate that most cloud service categories seem to foster vendor lock-in situations which might be especially problematic for enterprise architectures. This might sound disillusioning at first. However, we present a reference model for cloud-native applications that relies only on a small subset of well standardized IaaS services. The reference model can be used for codifying cloud technologies. It can guide technology identification, classification, adoption, research and development processes for cloud-native application and for vendor lock-in aware enterprise architecture engineering methodologies

    Opaque Service Virtualisation: A Practical Tool for Emulating Endpoint Systems

    Large enterprise software systems make many complex interactions with other services in their environment. Developing and testing for production-like conditions is therefore a very challenging task. Current approaches include emulation of dependent services using either explicit modelling or record-and-replay approaches. Models require deep knowledge of the target services while record-and-replay is limited in accuracy. Both face developmental and scaling issues. We present a new technique that improves the accuracy of record-and-replay approaches, without requiring prior knowledge of the service protocols. The approach uses Multiple Sequence Alignment to derive message prototypes from recorded system interactions and a scheme to match incoming request messages against prototypes to generate response messages. We use a modified Needleman-Wunsch algorithm for distance calculation during message matching. Our approach has shown greater than 99% accuracy for four evaluated enterprise system messaging protocols.     InterCloud: Utility-Oriented Federation of Cloud Computing Environments for Scaling of Application Services

    Cloud computing providers have setup several data centers at different geographical locations over the Internet in order to optimally serve needs of their customers around the world. However, existing systems do not support mechanisms and policies for dynamically coordinating load distribution among different Cloud-based data centers in order to determine optimal location for hosting application services to achieve reasonable QoS levels. Further, the Cloud computing providers are unable to predict geographic distribution of users consuming their services, hence the load coordination must happen automatically, and distribution of services must change in response to changes in the load. To counter this problem, we advocate creation of federated Cloud computing environment (InterCloud) that facilitates just-in-time, opportunistic, and scalable provisioning of application services, consistently achieving QoS targets under variable workload, resource and network conditions. The overall goal is to create a computing environment that supports dynamic expansion or contraction of capabilities (VMs, services, storage, and database) for handling sudden variations in service demands. This paper presents vision, challenges, and architectural elements of InterCloud for utility-oriented federation of Cloud computing environments. The proposed InterCloud environment supports scaling of applications across multiple vendor clouds. We have validated our approach by conducting a set of rigorous performance evaluation study using the CloudSim toolkit.     Käesolev bakalaureusetöö käsitleb platvormi virtualiseerimist F2F hajusarvutuste raamistikus. Töö käigus vaatan mitmeid virtualiseerimise võtteid nii platvormi kui võrguühenduste jaoks. Sõltuvalt kasutajast saab vaadata virtualiseeritud platvormi erinevatel abstraktsioonitasemetel lähtudes sellest, kas tegu on lõpprakenduse arendajaga või hoopis platvormi administraatoriga. Töö tulemusena valmis prototüüplahendus. Lisaks toon ära mitmeid ideid, kuidas saab platvormi virtualiseerimist F2F raamistikus teha.This work was undertaken as a part of the process of finding new directions for the F2F Computing framework. Looking into the ways of platform virtualization is a natural course for F2F Computing to take because the current version can run distributed computation jobs written in C/C++ and Python. In this thesis I looked into the virtualization methods which could be used for platform virtualization. I also looked into some of the network virtualization methods. I brought out different layers of the virtualized platform in the respect of the parties involved. As a result I provide ideas of how to achieve platform virtualization and a prototype solution based on the F2F Computing job
