    Get PDF
The present work was developed aiming at a greater efficiency in the monitoring of the refrigeration system of electrical rooms of the company Duratex, since it presents great financial losses due to the high temperature of these environments, reducing the useful life of electronic equipment inside these rooms. Prior to the development of this project, such monitoring was carried out visually in the field by a refrigeration technical team, but due to the limited number of employees in this sector, this form of monitoring is not efficient to meet the amount of existing refrigeration equipment. In view of this scenario, during the course of this activity, a project will be presented for the implementation of a remote monitoring system for the refrigeration equipment existing at Duratex, through the SCADA system. To achieve this objective, hardware and software were installed to integrate refrigeration equipment with the company's existing industrial communication network, making it possible for refrigeration equipment to be monitored remotely by any computer on the factory premises, which has access to industrial communication network and adequate supervision software. With this remote monitoring, greater agility in the diagnosis of failures was possible and, consequently, greater assertiveness in decision-making for maintenance and conservation of refrigeration equipment

A framework for effective management of condition based maintenance programs in the context of industrial development of E-Maintenance strategies

CBM (Condition Based Maintenance) solutions are increasingly present in industrial systems due to two main circumstances: rapid evolution, without precedents, in the capture and analysis of data and significant cost reduction of supporting technologies. CBM programs in industrial systems can become extremely complex, especially when considering the effective introduction of new capabilities provided by PHM (Prognostics and Health Management) and E-maintenance disciplines. In this scenario, any CBM solution involves the management of numerous technical aspects, that the maintenance manager needs to understand, in order to be implemented properly and effectively, according to the company’s strategy. This paper provides a comprehensive representation of the key components of a generic CBM solution, this is presented using a framework or supporting structure for an effective management of the CBM programs. The concept “symptom of failure”, its corresponding analysis techniques (introduced by ISO 13379-1 and linked with RCM/FMEA analysis), and other international standard for CBM open-software application development (for instance, ISO 13374 and OSA-CBM), are used in the paper for the development of the framework. An original template has been developed, adopting the formal structure of RCM analysis templates, to integrate the information of the PHM techniques used to capture the failure mode behaviour and to manage maintenance. Finally, a case study describes the framework using the referred template.Gobierno de Andalucía P11-TEP-7303 M

Conserving Energy with No Watt Left Behind

    Get PDF
Facilities managers for industrial and commercial sites want to develop detailed electrical consumption profiles of their electrical and electromechanical loads, including expensive physical plant for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) and equipment for manufacturing and production. This information is essential in order to understand and optimize energy consumption, to detect and solve equipment failures and problems, and to facilitate predictive maintenance of electromechanical loads. As energy costs rise, residential customers are also developing a growing interest in understanding the magnitude and impact of their electrical consumption quickly, easily, and informatively

HVAC SYSTEM REMOTE MONITORING AND DIAGNOSIS

    Get PDF
A monitoring system for an HVAC system of a building includes a monitoring server located remotely from the building. The monitoring server receives, from a device installed at the building, (i) time-domain current data based on a measured aggregate current supplied to a plurality of components of the HVAC system, and (ii) data based on frequency-domain current data of the measured aggregate current. Based on the received data, the monitoring server accesses (i) whether a failure has occurred in a first com ponent of the plurality of components and (ii) generates a preliminary advisory in response to determining that the failure has occurred. The monitoring server compares the preliminary advisory to a threshold value based on data stored from prior advisories. If the preliminary advisory is on a first side of the threshold value, the monitoring server provides the preliminary advisory as a first advisory to a technician for review

Development of Temperature and Humidity-Based Indicators for Diagnosing Problems in Low Tonnage, Split System Air Conditioners

This paper presents results of a survey of the literature and identifies the most common degraded conditions associated with low-tonnage air conditioners. Other laboratory studies as well as marketed diagnostic systems are also summarized. A procedure for identification of useful, low-cost temperature-based indicators of degraded conditions has been developed at the Energy Systems Laboratory, Texas A&M University in College Station, TX under contract to Honeywell. This paper presents the methodology used to identify the temperature-based indicators for the most common degraded conditions gleaned from the literature

The Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) approach to assuring food safety was first mandated in the United States in 1995 for the seafood industry, with full implementation to take place by December, 1997. The survey instruments included in this Working Paper were developed as part of a cost analysis of the adoption of HACCP in the Seafood Industry. The purpose of the survey was to quantify the change in costs that average seafood companies experienced during the first year of HACCP adoption.HACCP, costs of adoption, survey instruments, seafood industry, Demand and Price Analysis,

Real-Time Anomaly Detection in Cold Chain Transportation Using IoT Technology

There are approximately 88 million tonnes of food waste generated annually in the EU alone. Food spoilage during distribution accounts for some of this waste. To minimise this spoilage, it is of utmost importance to maintain the cold chain during the transportation of perishable foods such as meats, fruits, and vegetables. However, these products are often unfortunately wasted in large quantities when unpredictable failures occur in the refrigeration units of transport vehicles. This work proposes a real-time IoT anomaly detection system to detect equipment failures and provide decision support options to warehouse staff and delivery drivers, thus reducing potential food wastage. We developed a bespoke Internet of Things (IoT) solution for real-time product monitoring and alerting during cold chain transportation, which is based on the Digital Matter Eagle cellular data logger and two temperature probes. A visual dashboard was developed to allow logistics staff to perform monitoring, and business-defined temperature thresholds were used to develop a text and email decision support system, notifying relevant staff members if anomalies were detected. The IoT anomaly detection system was deployed with Musgrave Marketplace, Ireland’s largest grocery distributor, in three of their delivery vans operating in the greater Belfast area. Results show that the LTE-M cellular IoT system is power efficient and avoids sending false alerts due to the novel alerting system which was developed based on trip detection

Experience with dc photovoltaic systems (without backup power) and ranging in output from 23 to 3,500 peak watts, in a wide range of environmental conditions and with a wide range of insolation, is described. Cooperation of NASA with other government agencies resulted in the installation of an air pollution monitor in New Jersey, a seismic sensor in Hawaii, power for lookout towers in national forests in California, an electric power system for a Papago Indian village in Arizona, and a power system for a grain mill and water pump in Tangaye, Upper Volta. Significant operational results are discussed and system reliability is assessed for the 20 experimental systems installed since 1976. Additional systems to be installed overseas are highlighted, and economic factors are considered
