Review of Face Detection Systems Based Artificial Neural Networks Algorithms
Face detection is one of the most relevant applications of image processing
and biometric systems. Artificial neural networks (ANN) have been used in the
field of image processing and pattern recognition. There is lack of literature
surveys which give overview about the studies and researches related to the
using of ANN in face detection. Therefore, this research includes a general
review of face detection studies and systems which based on different ANN
approaches and algorithms. The strengths and limitations of these literature

Quadratic Projection Based Feature Extraction with Its Application to Biometric Recognition
This paper presents a novel quadratic projection based feature extraction
framework, where a set of quadratic matrices is learned to distinguish each
class from all other classes. We formulate quadratic matrix learning (QML) as a
standard semidefinite programming (SDP) problem. However, the con- ventional
interior-point SDP solvers do not scale well to the problem of QML for
high-dimensional data. To solve the scalability of QML, we develop an efficient
algorithm, termed DualQML, based on the Lagrange duality theory, to extract
nonlinear features. To evaluate the feasibility and effectiveness of the
proposed framework, we conduct extensive experiments on biometric recognition.
Experimental results on three representative biometric recogni- tion tasks,
including face, palmprint, and ear recognition, demonstrate the superiority of
the DualQML-based feature extraction algorithm compared to the current
state-of-the-art algorithm

Machine-based emotional intelligence is a requirement for natural interaction between humans and computer interfaces and a basic level of accurate emotion perception is needed for computer systems to respond adequately to human emotion. Humans convey emotional information both intentionally and unintentionally via speech patterns. These vocal patterns are perceived and understood by listeners during conversation. This research aims to improve the automatic perception of vocal emotion in two ways. First, we compare two emotional speech data sources: natural, spontaneous emotional speech and acted or portrayed emotional speech. This comparison demonstrates the advantages and disadvantages of both acquisition methods and how these methods affect the end application of vocal emotion recognition. Second, we look at two classification methods which have gone unexplored in this field: stacked generalisation and unweighted vote. We show how these techniques can yield an improvement over traditional classification methods
