Non-linear load deteriorates the quality of current waveforms at the point of common coupling of various consumers. Active power filter (APFs) is used to mitigate the most concern harmonic pollution in an electrical network. The controller part is the nucleus of an active power filter configuration. Active power filter performance is affected significantly by the selection of current control techniques. The active filter and its current control must have the capability to track sudden slope variations in the current reference to compensate the distorted current drawn by the voltage source inverter. Therefore, the choice and implementation of the current regulator is more important for the achievement of a satisfactory performance level. In this survey, technical reviews of various types of controllers covering a wide range have been presented. This work also reveals the advantages and disadvantages of the practiced control strategies. Considering the information system medical images are the most sensitive and critical types of data. Transferring medical images over the internet requires the use of authentication algorithms that are resistant to attacks. Another aspect is confidentiality for secure storage and transfer of medical images. The proposed study presents an embedding technique to improve the security of medical images. As a part of preprocessing that involves removing the high-frequency components, Gaussian filters are used. To get LL band features CDF9/7 wavelet is employed. In a similar way, for the cover image, the LL band features are obtained. In order to get the 1st level of encryption the technique of alpha blending is used. It combines the LL band features of the secret image and cover images whereas LH, HL, and HH bands are applied to Inverse CDF 9/7. The resulting encrypted image along with the key obtained through LH, HL, and HH bands is transferred. The produced key adds an extra layer of protection, and similarly, the receiver does the reverse action to acquire the original secret image. The PSNR acquired from the suggested technique is compared to PSNR obtained from existing techniques to validate the results. Performance is quantified in terms of PSNR. A Spartan 6 FPGA board is used to synthesize the complete architecture in order to compare hardware consumption

Comprehensive Review on Detection and Classification of Power Quality Disturbances in Utility Grid With Renewable Energy Penetration

The global concern with power quality is increasing due to the penetration of renewable energy (RE) sources to cater the energy demands and meet de-carbonization targets. Power quality (PQ) disturbances are found to be more predominant with RE penetration due to the variable outputs and interfacing converters. There is a need to recognize and mitigate PQ disturbances to supply clean power to the consumer. This article presents a critical review of techniques used for detection and classification PQ disturbances in the utility grid with renewable energy penetration. The broad perspective of this review paper is to provide various concepts utilized for extraction of the features to detect and classify the PQ disturbances even in the noisy environment. More than 220 research publications have been critically reviewed, classified and listed for quick reference of the engineers, scientists and academicians working in the power quality area

ABSTRACT Our environment is an asset to be managed carefully and is not an expendable resource to be taken for granted. The main original contribution of this thesis is in formulating intelligent techniques and simulating case studies to demonstrate the significance of the present approach for achieving a low carbon economy. Energy boosts crop production, drives industry and increases employment. Wise energy use is the first step to ensuring sustainable energy for present and future generations. Energy services are essential for meeting internationally agreed development goals. Energy management system lies at the heart of all infrastructures from communications, economy, and society’s transportation to the society. This has made the system more complex and more interdependent. The increasing number of disturbances occurring in the system has raised the priority of energy management system infrastructure which has been improved with the aid of technology and investment; suitable methods have been presented to optimize the system in this thesis. Since the current system is facing various problems from increasing disturbances, the system is operating on the limit, aging equipments, load change etc, therefore an improvement is essential to minimize these problems. To enhance the current system and resolve the issues that it is facing, smart grid has been proposed as a solution to resolve power problems and to prevent future failures. This thesis argues that smart grid consists of computational intelligence and smart meters to improve the reliability, stability and security of power. In comparison with the current system, it is more intelligent, reliable, stable and secure, and will reduce the number of blackouts and other failures that occur on the power grid system. Also, the thesis has reported that smart metering is technically feasible to improve energy efficiency. In the thesis, a new technique using wavelet transforms, floating point genetic algorithm and artificial neural network based hybrid model for gaining accurate prediction of short-term load forecast has been developed. Adopting the new model is more accuracy than radial basis function network. Actual data has been used to test the proposed new method and it has been demonstrated that this integrated intelligent technique is very effective for the load forecast. Choosing the appropriate algorithm is important to implement the optimization during the daily task in the power system. The potential for application of swarm intelligence to Optimal Reactive Power Dispatch (ORPD) has been shown in this thesis. After making the comparison of the results derived from swarm intelligence, improved genetic algorithm and a conventional gradient-based optimization method, it was concluded that swam intelligence is better in terms of performance and precision in solving optimal reactive power dispatch problems.EThOS - Electronic Theses Online ServiceGBUnited Kingdo

Estimation of Stator Resistance and Rotor Flux Linkage in SPMSM Using CLPSO with Opposition-Based-Learning Strategy

Electromagnetic parameters are important for controller design and condition monitoring of permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM) system. In this paper, an improved comprehensive learning particle swarm optimization (CLPSO) with opposition-based-learning (OBL) strategy is proposed for estimating stator resistance and rotor flux linkage in surface-mounted PMSM; the proposed method is referred to as CLPSO-OBL. In the CLPSO-OBL framework, an opposition-learning strategy is used for best particles reinforcement learning to improve the dynamic performance and global convergence ability of the CLPSO. The proposed parameter optimization not only retains the advantages of diversity in the CLPSO but also has inherited global exploration capability of the OBL. Then, the proposed method is applied to estimate the stator resistance and rotor flux linkage of surface-mounted PMSM. The experimental results show that the CLPSO-OBL has better performance in estimating winding resistance and PM flux compared to the existing peer PSOs. Furthermore, the proposed parameter estimation model and optimization method are simple and with good accuracy, fast convergence, and easy digital implementation

This paper profound the various soft computing techniques like fuzzy logic, genetic algorithm, ant colony optimization, particle swarm optimization used in controlling the parameters of PID Controller. Its widespread use and universal acceptability is allocated to its elementary operating algorithm, the relative ease with the controller effects can be adjusted, the broad range of applications where it has truly developed excellent control performances, and the familiarity with which it is deduced among researchers. In spite of its wide spread use, one of its short-comings is that there is no efficient tuning method for PID controller. Given this background, the main objective of this is to develop a tuning methodology that would be universally applicable to a range of well-liked process that occurs in the process control industry
