    TENSOR: retrieval and analysis of heterogeneous online content for terrorist activity recognition

    The proliferation of terrorist generated content online is a cause for concern as it goes together with the rise of radicalisation and violent extremism. Law enforcement agencies (LEAs) need powerful platforms to help stem the influence of such content. This article showcases the TENSOR project which focusses on the early detection of online terrorist activities, radicalisation and recruitment. Operating under the H2020 Secure Societies Challenge, TENSOR aims to develop a terrorism intelligence platform for increasing the ability of LEAs to identify, gather and analyse terrorism-related online content. The mechanisms to tackle this challenge by bringing together LEAs, industry, research, and legal experts are presented

    JURI SAYS:An Automatic Judgement Prediction System for the European Court of Human Rights

    In this paper we present the web platform JURI SAYS that automatically predicts decisions of the European Court of Human Rights based on communicated cases, which are published by the court early in the proceedings and are often available many years before the final decision is made. Our system therefore predicts future judgements of the court. The platform is available at jurisays.com and shows the predictions compared to the actual decisions of the court. It is automatically updated every month by including the prediction for the new cases. Additionally, the system highlights the sentences and paragraphs that are most important for the prediction (i.e. violation vs. no violation of human rights)

    Towards Fully Integrated Real-time Detection Framework for Online Contents Analysis - RED-Alert Approach

    Social media is extensively used nowadays and is gaining popularity among the users with the increasing growth in the network capacity, connectivity, and speed. Moreover, affordable prices of data plans, especially mobile data packages, have considerably increased the use of multimedia by different users. This includes terrorists who use social media platforms to promote their ideology and intimidate their adversaries. It is therefore very important to develop automated solutions to semantically analyse online contents to assist law enforcement agencies in the preventive policing of online activities. A major challenge for the social media forensic analysis is to preserve the privacy of citizens who use online social networking platforms. This paper presents results of European H2020 project RED-Alert that aims to enable secure and privacy preserving data processing; hence the malicious content and the corresponding personality can be ethically tracked. We have mined seven social media channels for content and providing support for ten languages for analysis. Our proposed solution is designed to ensure security and policing of online contents by detecting terrorist material. We have used social network analysis, speech recognition, face and object detection besides audio event detection to extract information from online sources that are fed in a complex event processor. We have discussed the challenges and prospects of this work especially the need of analysing online contents while respecting European and national data protection laws notably GDPR

    An overview of information extraction techniques for legal document analysis and processing

    In an Indian law system, different courts publish their legal proceedings every month for future reference of legal experts and common people. Extensive manual labor and time are required to analyze and process the information stored in these lengthy complex legal documents. Automatic legal document processing is the solution to overcome drawbacks of manual processing and will be very helpful to the common man for a better understanding of a legal domain. In this paper, we are exploring the recent advances in the field of legal text processing and provide a comparative analysis of approaches used for it. In this work, we have divided the approaches into three classes NLP based, deep learning-based and, KBP based approaches. We have put special emphasis on the KBP approach as we strongly believe that this approach can handle the complexities of the legal domain well. We finally discuss some of the possible future research directions for legal document analysis and processing
