A taxonomic review of the neotropical genus Coprophanaeus Olsoufieff, 1924 (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae, Scarabaeinae)
The Neotropical genus Coprophanaeus Olsoufieff (1924), as classified here, comprises 38 species distributed among three subgenera (Megaphanaeus Olsoufieff, Metallophanaeus Olsoufieff, and Coprophanaeus s. str.) and eight species groups. Keys presented help to identify supraspecific and species taxa, all of which are illustrated and diagnosed. Lectotypes are designated for Phanaeus ignecinctus Felsche and Phanaeus ohausi Felsche. Coprophanaeus corythus (Harold), formerly regarded as a subspecies of C. telamon (Erichson), assumes species status. Coprophanaeus magnoi Arnaud, described as a subspecies of C. milon (Blanchard), is raised to species status. New taxonomic interpretations result in 10 new subjective synonymies (junior synonym listed first): Phanaeus machadoi Pereira and dâAndretta = Coprophanaeus saphirinus (Perty); Phanaeus costatus Olsoufieff = Coprophanaeus cyanescens (Olsoufieff); Phanaeus worontzowi PessĂŽa and Lane = Coprophanaeus cyanescens (Olsoufieff); Coprophanaeus kohlmanni Arnaud = Coprophanaeus morenoi Arnaud; Coprophanaeus pluto nogueirai Arnaud = Coprophanaeus pluto (Harold); Coprophanaeus edmondsi Arnaud = Coprophanaeus conocephalus (Olsoufieff); Coprophanaeus uhleri MalĂœ and PokornĂœ = Coprophanaeus chiriquensis (Olsoufieff); Coprophanaeus henryi MalĂœ and PokornĂœ = Coprophanaeus gilli Arnaud; Phanaeus perseus Harold = Coprophanaeus corythus (Harold); Coprophanaeus telamon nevinsoni Arnaud and GĂĄmez = Coprophanaeus corythus; and Coprophanaeus florenti Arnaud = Coprophanaeus ohausi (Felsche). The status of the following names remains unresolved: Phanaeus strandi Balthasar; Coprophanaeus rigoutorum Arnaud; C. terrali Arnaud; C. lichyi Arnaud; C. lecromi Arnaud; C. larseni Arnaud; and C. vazdemeloi Arnaud
Polynomial Size Analysis of First-Order Shapely Functions
We present a size-aware type system for first-order shapely function
definitions. Here, a function definition is called shapely when the size of the
result is determined exactly by a polynomial in the sizes of the arguments.
Examples of shapely function definitions may be implementations of matrix
multiplication and the Cartesian product of two lists. The type system is
proved to be sound w.r.t. the operational semantics of the language. The type
checking problem is shown to be undecidable in general. We define a natural
syntactic restriction such that the type checking becomes decidable, even
though size polynomials are not necessarily linear or monotonic. Furthermore,
we have shown that the type-inference problem is at least semi-decidable (under
this restriction). We have implemented a procedure that combines run-time
testing and type-checking to automatically obtain size dependencies. It
terminates on total typable function definitions.Comment: 35 pages, 1 figur
Test Beam Results of Geometry Optimized Hybrid Pixel Detectors
The Multi-Chip-Module-Deposited (MCM-D) technique has been used to build
hybrid pixel detector assemblies. This paper summarises the results of an
analysis of data obtained in a test beam campaign at CERN. Here, single chip
hybrids made of ATLAS pixel prototype read-out electronics and special sensor
tiles were used. They were prepared by the Fraunhofer Institut fuer
Zuverlaessigkeit und Mikrointegration, IZM, Berlin, Germany. The sensors
feature an optimized sensor geometry called equal sized bricked. This design
enhances the spatial resolution for double hits in the long direction of the

Biodiversity in a forest island: reptiles and amphibians of the West African Togo Hills
Our recent surveys of the herpetological diversity of the West African Togo Hills documented a total of 65 reptile and amphibian species, making Kyabobo National Park one of the most diverse sites surveyed in Ghana. We provide accounts for all species recorded along with photographs to aid in identification. We recorded 26 amphibians, including six new records for Kyabobo N. P., one of which is a record for the Togo Hills. Our collection of reptile species (22 lizards, 16 snakes, and one crocodile) also provides new records and range extensions for Kyabobo N. P., such as the first observation of the dwarf crocodile, Osteolaemus tetraspis. Amphibian species still lacking from our surveys in the Togo Hills include several species that are adapted to fast running water or large closed forests, like the Togo toad, Bufo togoensis and the slippery frog, Conraua derooi. Appropriate habitat for such species still remains in Kyabobo, highlighting the need for additional survey work. We draw attention to the importance of conserving forest stream habitats, which will in turn help ensure the persistence of forest-restricted species. Eliminating Network Protocol Vulnerabilities Through Abstraction and Systems Language Design
Incorrect implementations of network protocol message specifications affect
the stability, security, and cost of network system development. Most
implementation defects fall into one of three categories of well defined
message constraints. However, the general process of constructing network
protocol stacks and systems does not capture these categorical con- straints.
We introduce a systems programming language with new abstractions that capture
these constraints. Safe and efficient implementations of standard message
handling operations are synthesized by our compiler, and whole-program analysis
is used to ensure constraints are never violated. We present language examples
using the OpenFlow protocol
Circular business strategies and supply chain finance in the Aruba waste sector : a case study of a small island jurisdiction
This paper focuses on possibilities and obstacles for a circular economy in the waste management sector in Aruba. The authors describe the Aruban economy and the consequences of its SIDS characteristics. The article defines concepts in the field of circular economy and presents a conceptual model for research in this area. Based on multimethod research, the paper argues that small and medium-sized firms (SMEs) in the waste sector in Aruba determine their financial needs partly on the opportunities offered by the international market and price developments. Financing often takes place from own resources or via a local bank. No examples of circular chain financing were identified. Chain cooperation takes place with partners within the existing holding or with international partners, whereby performance and hedging contracts are concluded to guarantee quality and delivery and to mitigate business risks such as price fluctuations on the world market. During the research, it became obvious that limitations resulting from Arubaâs small scale and âislandnessâ â such as the limited goods flow, limited quantities of feed waste materials and financing facilities offered by the local banking sector, as well as insufficiently stimulating legislation and regulations, coupled with faltering knowledge circulation and social awareness â seriously hamper the development of circular entrepreneurism in Aruba. The genus Dacne Latreille (Coleoptera: Erotylidae) in tropical America
A new species of Dacne Latreille from Brazil, D. (Dacne) ducke, n. sp., and a new specimen of Dacne brodzinskyi Skelley (amber fossil) show characteristics presently unreported for the genus. Dacne ducke is the first member of the tribe Dacnini to be discovered in South America. A checklist of species and updates to an identification key for all known species are presented
