A thesis submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor in Information Management, specialization in Information TechnologiesWith the extensive spread of smart mobile devices, mobile technologies and services have revolutionised and pervaded significantly in most aspects of human life, such as social communication, commerce, entertainment, etc. Various industries have integrated services and products with mobile financial transaction technologies, facilitating the payment services combined with various mobile applications. The wide adoption of mobile transactions has increased the efficiency of transaction processes, met the expectations of customers and the requirements of enterprises, and supported the social-economic development in different scenarios, especially under the pandemic situation. Understanding mobile device users’ perceptions and behaviours on mobile technologies combining payment functions under the COVID-19 pandemic situation has reinforced the need to embark on a deeper investigation of customer behaviours during the pandemic. For these reasons, this study contributes to the advancement of knowledge and implementation methods for a better understanding of the determinants of customers’ behavioural intentions of using mobile technologies combined with payment functions in a total of seven separate studies. The investigation begins with a systematic literature review on mobile payment studies presented in chapter two. This research is augmented by investigating users’ continuance usage intention of mobile payments under the COVID-19 pandemic in chapter three. The fourth chapter analyses the determinants of continuance usage intention of food delivery apps during the pandemic. Chapters five and six present two theoretical development studies about the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) and UTAUT2, respectively. The seventh chapter investigates customers’ psychological shopping processes via live-streaming shopping apps during the pandemic lockdown period. In epistemological terms, this study involved conjoint positivist and interpretivist research in behavioural information systems research. A qualitative research method was applied in chapters two, five and six, and a quantitative research method was implemented in the third, fourth and seventh chapters. The main theoretical foundations applied and validated in three empirical studies were UTAUT and UTAUT2. Specifically, chapter three integrates UTAUT with Mental Accounting Theory, the fourth chapter combines UTAUT with the Expectancy Confirmation Model, and chapter seven integrates UTAUT2 with the Stimulus-Organism-Response framework and Flow theory. This study found that performance expectancy, social influence, and trust significantly affect users’ behavioural intentions in all three empirical studies. Customers’ mental cognitions, such as perceived benefits, satisfaction, flow and perceived value, positively formulate users’ behavioural intention in the three studies, respectively. Hedonic motivation and flow significantly influence users' behavioural intention when mobile technologies contain payment and entertainment features. Moreover, this study contributes several theoretical and practical implications. This study facilitates the advancement of knowledge of mobile technologies adoption through three verified theoretical frameworks and two proposed developed theoretical models and appropriate measurement methods. Meanwhile, this study supports relevant stakeholders in mobile technologies, enterprises, policymakers, service providers, and marketing departments with valuable findings and discussions for comprehensively understanding the determinants of customers’ behaviours on mobile technologies combined payment function

    Get PDF
Siri, Alexa, and other digital assistants are rapidly becoming embraced by consumers and the adoption is projected to grow from 390 million to 1.8 billion for the period of 2015 to 2021. Digital assistants are offering benefits to consumers while also proving to be a disruptive technology for businesses. Coupling digital assistants with other artificial intelligence technologies offers the potential to transform companies by creating more efficient business processes, automating complex tasks, and improving the customer service experience. Businesses have begun integrating this technology into their operations with the expectation of achieving significant productivity gains. Customer satisfaction has been discussed extensively throughout marketing literature. Yet, there is little empirical evidence of customer satisfaction with digital assistants. This study used PLS-SEM to analyze 244 survey responses obtained from a cross-section of consumers. Using the Expectations Confirmation Theory as its foundation, the study identified that expectations and confirmation of expectations substantially explained customer satisfaction with digital assistants. For practice, the study provides guidance which allows firms to prioritize marketing and managerial activities. Firms should focus priorities on assisting digital assistant users to become aware of new skill capabilities while also providing relevant examples of how these skills can be used to meet user needs. In addition, priorities should be focused on assisting users with understanding how the average person can use digital assistants to perform more than just mundane tasks with relative ease. These priorities were identified as areas of high importance for customer satisfaction and require performance improvements

E-Commerce Digital Information Transparency and Satisfaction. Can We Have Too Much of a Good Thing?

    Get PDF
Despite core product and service quality improvements and advances in shopping processes and technology, customers often report being unsatisfied with their online purchases. One plausible reason for lower customer satisfaction rates is too much or too little information that is shared with the customers about their orders. We show that when forming their perceptions about the purchases, customers form digital information satisfaction (DIS) levels as they evaluate supplementary informational services in addition to the core product being purchased. We believe that DIS is one of the dimensions of overall customer satisfaction. We also show that supplementary informational services are essential in meeting the increased informational needs of online shopping and, thus, can explain the decreased overall customer satisfaction level through the decreases in DIS. We develop and test the Digital Information Transparency and Satisfaction (DITS) model that shows how supplemental informational services influence digital information satisfaction (DIS_ in e-commerce. By doing so, this dissertation introduces a new dimension of satisfaction in the era of online shopping. This helps close the knowledge gap in the current research on overall customer satisfaction by showing that too much information transparency can harm the overall experience of the customers, thus leading to decreases in DIS. The study results provide a platform for future research on the influence of informational services provided during online shopping. Explaining the role of information shared with the customers in their perceptions of transparency and, consequently, DIS may help provide crucial practical business insights. Thus, by proposing the DITS model, this dissertation brings contributions to both theory and praxis by enhancing the understanding of DIS, which can serve as a robust foundation for future research on decreasing levels of overall customer satisfaction in a digital setting, as well as help companies improve their customer relationships

For broadband internet service providers, loss of subscriber base due to termination of service is inevitable. Meanwhile, it is alarming to see unpredictable broadband penetration in major cities while at the same time, the government strives to overcome slow broadband penetration in rural areas due to lack of continue broadband service intention. This research has adopted the factors from MATH Model, and information system (IS) continuance usage model to investigate the relationship with the continuance of broadband intention (CBI) where satisfaction is developed and integrated as a new construct. By understanding the factors affecting the CBI, it also describes the factors that influence household broadband penetration (HBP). This study has gauged the 1Malaysia Internet Center or Pusat Internet 1Malaysia (Pi1M) users' experience to measure their response towards CBI. The relations among the constructs of the proposed model are then hypothesized according to the literature findings and examined using SMART PLS 3.0. The study has drawn the samples of its population from the Pi1M in six regions of Malaysia (northern, central, southern, east coast, Sabah, and Sarawak). The cross-sectional study was conducted from October 2016 to January 2017 with 406 respondents from the target population. The results indicate that attitudinal and normative constructs are the critical factors followed by control construct that have shaped CBI. On the contrary, this study finds a negative association between satisfaction and CBI among the Pi1M users. Despite the growing number of studies on intention and adoption of technology, only a few number of researches have been done on theory-building and its linkage with CBI. In addition, the findings of this study and the new development of satisfaction as a new construct have also contributed to the existing literature which can be used by policymakers to improve their strategy in ensuring sustainable growth of broadband penetration in Malaysia
