Controlling the non-parametric modeling of Double Link Flexible Robotic Manipulator using Hybrid PID tuned by P-Type ILA
Utilization of robotic manipulator with multi-link structure encompasses a great influence in most of the present industries. However, controlling the motion of multi-link manipulator has become a troublesome errand particularly once the flexible structure is employed. As of now, the framework utilizes the complicated arithmetic to resolve desired hub angle with the coupling result and vibration within the framework. Hence, this research aims to develop a dynamic system and controller for double-link flexible robotics manipulator (DLFRM) with the enhancement on hub angle position and vibration concealment. The research utilised neural network because the model estimation supported NARX model structure. In the controllers’ development, this research focuses on self-tuning controller. P-Type iterative learning algorithm (ILA) control theme was enforced to adapt the controller parameters to fulfill the required performances once there is changes to the system. The hybrid of proportional-integral-derivate (PID) controller was developed for hub motion and end-point vibration suppression of every link respectively. The controllers were tested in MATLAB/Simulink simulation setting. The performance of the controller was compared with the fixed hybrid PID-PID controller in term of input tracking and vibration concealment. The results indicated that the proposed controller was effective to maneuver the double-link flexible robotic manipulator to the specified position with reduction of the vibration at the tip of the DLFRM structure
Genetic algorithm optimization and control system design of flexible structures
This paper presents an investigation into the deployment of genetic algorithm (GA)-based controller design and optimization for vibration suppression in flexible structures. The potential of GA is explored in three case studies. In the first case study, the potential of GA is demonstrated in the development and optimization of a hybrid learning control scheme for vibration control of flexible manipulators. In the second case study, an active control mechanism for vibration suppression of flexible beam structures using GA optimization technique is proposed. The third case study presents the development of an effective adaptive command shaping control scheme for vibration control of a twin rotor system, where GA is employed to optimize the amplitudes and time locations of the impulses in the proposed control algorithm. The effectiveness of the proposed control schemes is verified in both an experimental and a simulation environment, and their performances are assessed in both the time and frequency domains

Modelling and intelligent control of double-link flexible robotic manipulator
The use of robotic manipulator with multi-link structure has a great influence in most of the current industries. However, controlling the motion of multi-link manipulator has become a challenging task especially when the flexible structure is used. Currently, the system utilizes the complex mathematics to solve desired hub angle with the coupling effect and vibration in the system. Thus, this research aims to develop a dynamic system and controller for double-link flexible robotics manipulator (DLFRM) with the improvement on hub angle position and vibration suppression. A laboratory sized DLFRM moving in horizontal direction is developed and fabricated to represent the actual dynamics of the system. The research utilized neural network as the model estimation. Results indicated that the identification of the DLFRM system using multi-layer perceptron (MLP) outperformed the Elman neural network (ENN). In the controllers’ development, this research focuses on two main parts namely fixed controller and adaptive controller. In fixed controller, the metaheuristic algorithms known as Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Artificial Bees Colony (ABC) were utilized to find optimum value of PID controller parameter to track the desired hub angle and supress the vibration based on the identified models obtained earlier. For the adaptive controller, self-tuning using iterative learning algorithm (ILA) was implemented to adapt the controller parameters to meet the desired performances when there were changes to the system. It was observed that self-tuning using ILA can track the desired hub angle and supress the vibration even when payload was added to the end effector of the system. In contrast, the fixed controller degraded when added payload exceeds 20 g. The performance of these control schemes was analysed separately via real-time PC-based control. The behaviour of the system response was observed in terms of trajectory tracking and vibration suppression. As a conclusion, it was found that the percentage of improvement achieved experimentally by the self-tuning controller over the fixed controller (PID-PSO) for settling time are 3.3 % and 3.28 % of each link respectively. The steady state errors of links 1 and 2 are improved by 91.9 % and 66.7 % respectively. Meanwhile, the vibration suppression for links 1 and 2 are improved by 76.7 % and 67.8 % respectively

Simultaneous Obstacle Avoidance and Target Tracking of Multiple Wheeled Mobile Robots With Certified Safety
Collision avoidance plays a major part in the control of the wheeled mobile robot (WMR). Most existing collision-avoidance methods mainly focus on a single WMR and environmental obstacles. There are few products that cast light on the collision-avoidance between multiple WMRs (MWMRs). In this article, the problem of simultaneous collision-avoidance and target tracking is investigated for MWMRs working in the shared environment from the perspective of optimization. The collision-avoidance strategy is formulated as an inequality constraint, which has proven to be collision free between the MWMRs. The designed MWMRs control scheme integrates path following, collision-avoidance, and WMR velocity compliance, in which the path following task is chosen as the secondary task, and collision-avoidance is the primary task so that safety can be guaranteed in advance. A Lagrangian-based dynamic controller is constructed for the dominating behavior of the MWMRs. Combining theoretical analyses and experiments, the feasibility of the designed control scheme for the MWMRs is substantiated. Experimental results show that if obstacles do not threaten the safety of the WMR, the top priority in the control task is the target track task. All robots move along the desired trajectory. Once the collision criterion is satisfied, the collision-avoidance mechanism is activated and prominent in the controller. Under the proposed scheme, all robots achieve the target tracking on the premise of being collision free

Intelligent and High-Performance Behavior Design of Autonomous Systems via Learning, Optimization and Control
Nowadays, great societal demands have rapidly boosted the development of autonomous systems that densely interact with humans in many application domains, from manufacturing to transportation and from workplaces to daily lives. The shift from isolated working environments to human-dominated space requires autonomous systems to be empowered to handle not only environmental uncertainties such as external vibrations but also interaction uncertainties arising from human behavior which is in nature probabilistic, causal but not strictly rational, internally hierarchical and socially compliant.This dissertation is concerned with the design of intelligent and high-performance behavior of such autonomous systems, leveraging the strength from control, optimization, learning, and cognitive science. The work consists of two parts. In Part I, the problem of high-level hybrid human-machine behavior design is addressed. The goal is to achieve safe, efficient and human-like interaction with people. A framework based on the theory of mind, utility theories and imitation learning is proposed to efficiently represent and learn the complicated behavior of humans. Built upon that, machine behaviors at three different levels - the perceptual level, the reasoning level, and the action level - are designed via imitation learning, optimization, and online adaptation, allowing the system to interpret, reason and behave as human, particularly when a variety of uncertainties exist. Applications to autonomous driving are considered throughout Part I. Part II is concerned with the design of high-performance low-level individual machine behavior in the presence of model uncertainties and external disturbances. Advanced control laws based on adaptation, iterative learning and the internal structures of uncertainties/disturbances are developed to assure that the high-level interactive behaviors can be reliably executed.
