A Configurable Matchmaking Framework for Electronic Marketplaces
E-marketplaces constitute a major enabler of B2B and B2C e-commerce activities. This paper proposes a framework for one of the central activities of e-marketplaces: matchmaking of trading intentions lodged by market participants. The framework identifies a core set of concepts and functions that are common to all types of marketplaces and can serve as the basis for describing the distinct styles of matchmaking employed within various market mechanisms. A prototype implementation of the framework based on Web services technology is presented, illustrating its ability to be dynamically configured to meet specific market needs and its potential to serve as a foundation for more fully fledged e-marketplace frameworks

A monitoring approach for runtime service discovery
Effective runtime service discovery requires identification of services based on different service characteristics such as structural, behavioural, quality, and contextual characteristics. However, current service registries guarantee services described in terms of structural and sometimes quality characteristics and, therefore, it is not always possible to assume that services in them will have all the characteristics required for effective service discovery. In this paper, we describe a monitor-based runtime service discovery framework called MoRSeD. The framework supports service discovery in both push and pull modes of query execution. The push mode of query execution is performed in parallel to the execution of a service-based system, in a proactive way. Both types of queries are specified in a query language called SerDiQueL that allows the representation of structural, behavioral, quality, and contextual conditions of services to be identified. The framework uses a monitor component to verify if behavioral and contextual conditions in the queries can be satisfied by services, based on translations of these conditions into properties represented in event calculus, and verification of the satisfiability of these properties against services. The monitor is also used to support identification that services participating in a service-based system are unavailable, and identification of changes in the behavioral and contextual characteristics of the services. A prototype implementation of the framework has been developed. The framework has been evaluated in terms of comparison of its performance when using and when not using the monitor component
Contracts and Behavioral Patterns for SoS: The EU IP DANSE approach
This paper presents some of the results of the first year of DANSE, one of
the first EU IP projects dedicated to SoS. Concretely, we offer a tool chain
that allows to specify SoS and SoS requirements at high level, and analyse them
using powerful toolsets coming from the formal verification area. At the high
level, we use UPDM, the system model provided by the british army as well as a
new type of contract based on behavioral patterns. At low level, we rely on a
powerful simulation toolset combined with recent advances from the area of
statistical model checking. The approach has been applied to a case study

Formalisation and Implementation of the XACML Access Control Mechanism
We propose a formal account of XACML, an OASIS standard adhering to the Policy Based Access Control model for the specifica- tion and enforcement of access control policies. To clarify all ambiguous and intricate aspects of XACML, we provide it with a more manageable alternative syntax and with a solid semantic ground. This lays the basis
for developing tools and methodologies which allow software engineers to easily and precisely regulate access to resources using policies. To demonstrate feasibility and effectiveness of our approach, we provide a software tool, supporting the specification and evaluation of policies and access requests, whose implementation fully relies on our formal development
Predicting chattering alarms: A machine Learning approach
Abstract Alarm floods represent a widespread issue for modern chemical plants. During these conditions, the number of alarms may be unmanageable, and the operator may miss safety-critical alarms. Chattering alarms, which repeatedly change between the active and non-active states, are responsible for most of the alarm records within a flood episode. Typically, chattering alarms are only addressed and removed retrospectively (e.g. during periodic performance assessments). This study proposes a Machine-Learning based approach for alarm chattering prediction. Specifically, a method for dynamic chattering quantification has been developed, whose results have been used to train three different Machine Learning models – Linear, Deep, and Wide&Deep models. The algorithms have been employed to predict future chattering behavior based on actual plant conditions. Performance metrics have been calculated to assess the correctness of predictions and to compare the performance of the three models
Internet diffusion vs. The crisis of the new economy
The diffusion of Internet in the world, both in terms of ''users" and "information supplyiers" is continously and constantly increasing. This market growth is based on a development that follows the usual behaviour of technological innovation diffusion (S-shaped logistic curve), so it is allowed to obtain reliable forecasts about the future market trend. Nevertheless, dispite the continous growth of the "target", the E-business seems to be in a crucial situation absolutely unpredictable since few moths ago, when viceversa looked as the main driving force of the "new economy" attacking the boundaries of the "global market". The objective of this paper is to analyse the potentialities of the growing market, through the the actual and forecasted number of users, and the condition of the general offer, in terms of typology and quality of the services supplied, trying to identify a reason for this crisis.
Forum Session at the First International Conference on Service Oriented Computing (ICSOC03)
The First International Conference on Service Oriented Computing (ICSOC) was held in Trento, December 15-18, 2003. The focus of the conference ---Service Oriented Computing (SOC)--- is the new emerging paradigm for distributed computing and e-business processing that has evolved from object-oriented and component computing to enable building agile networks of collaborating business applications distributed within and across organizational boundaries. Of the 181 papers submitted to the ICSOC conference, 10 were selected for the forum session which took place on December the 16th, 2003. The papers were chosen based on their technical quality, originality, relevance to SOC and for their nature of being best suited for a poster presentation or a demonstration. This technical report contains the 10 papers presented during the forum session at the ICSOC conference. In particular, the last two papers in the report ere submitted as industrial papers
